I switched to single length irons just this week, and the consistency is night and day. I've never felt so confident hitting the course. Just ordered Snake Bite one lengths to finish off the set.

Played 36 holes with Bryson in Ohio at 2016 US open sectional, his iron play was spectacular, every shot was at the pin, I was completely sold on his one plan swing that day, he shot 70-63 missing a handful of short putts, on two courses with lengths over 7450 yards, wet! Very impressive! I see a lot of wins for him in his future. The best part of the day is he took a lot of time with the kids signing autographs after a very long day of 36 holes. I wish him nothing but great success!!

I’m loving my one length Cobra irons, they are incredible! Although I’m struggling with chunky chipping. I might need to choke up but was trying to avoid that.

With a standard set, all shots fly about the same height. This is because longer irons have a higher swing speed than short irons. With single length shafts the long irons fly lower than standard and the short irons fly higher. The reason for this is the length of the clubs. Short irons with a longer than standard shaft will have a higher swing speed, higher spin rate and a higher ball flight. Long irons have a slower swing speed, lower spin rate and a lower ball flight than standard. The effects cancel each other out so the total ball flight is about the same. However less spin means less control. And with the short irons, you'll get better control but have to get used to the possibility of the ball backing up more than with standard clubs. Flighting the ball down into the wind with the short irons is possible. People need to be aware of these differences because it takes some getting used to if you're thinking about switching.

Brysons swing is similar to Moe Norman’s with one big exception: hip turn/rotation. Moe didn’t rotate much which provided for very consistent ball striking and straight ball flights but limited power.

my 1 iron set of same lengths may be older tech to the KINGS and I have no trouble having the same swing on all my clubs from p-3 iron.. that's the easy part, I have jumbo grips too. but it's the brain you have to struggle with. my 4-3 iron are so much shorter distance that my taylormade r7' and my brain says you have to hit it harder to get your distance. My p-8 are longer than my R7 but my 6-3 get shorter progressively. I'd love to try the king 4 iron just to feel if they are better now.

I could beat Bryson EAZZZZZZY. In a Drinking Contest, NOBODY Out Drinks a Navy Man. I'm a 10 coming down, was a 5 at 1 time until Knee injuries caused 9 surgeries. I have become a Fan of this young Man. A Gentleman that respects His Family and Fans AND Himself. Thanks, Also I need to emphasize GET FIT PLEASE. I bought a set off the rack and Had No idea the Shafts were meant to promote an EXTREMELY LOW Ball flight. I couldn't get the ball 15 feet off the ground except with the 8-GW. If you get Fit you will knock an immediate 5 to 10 strokes off for your average weekend player.

Bryson says in this video that his lie angle is 72 degrees for his single length clubs. That is because he wants to be more upright with his single plane swing. HOW do you get lie angles that UPright for the irons, even the single length? The normal 7 iron is about 62 degrees..so how do you get it to 72 degrees? Most folks can only bend an iron about 4 degrees and that's on a FORGED iron. How do you get it up 10 degrees to 72 degrees?? Are his irons forged to a 72 degree lie angle?/ Any help with this issue?? I want to get a set but would also like to have a more UPright lie angle. How would you get a lie angle greater than the standard 62 degrees and approach 72 degrees? Thanks for some help here!! Chip

I'm talking about the Cobra moulds - not his original test-sets nor the Edel versions. To be fair, Bryson has never had to worry about budgets - even in his amateur days. I've had irons re-bent many many times and no fitter I know would bend that much from standard.

Bryson DeChambeau was a great collegiate golfer who is NOT having a good year on the pro tour (just failed to make still another cut yesterday), despite using the Cobra single length irons for pro tournaments in place of his Edel single-length set used in his collegiate championship. The concept of single-length irons makes so much rational sense it is something of a mystery why a player with DeChambeau's talent is not winning any professional tournaments (although his recent second place finish is encouraging). Just about every tour pro understands that it is Greens-In-Regulation (GIR) which more often wins tournaments, and DeChambeau's GIR in 2017 while using Cobra single length clubs is surprisingly mediocre. If DeChambeau cannot dominate the GIR stats pretty soon with all his mid-irons at the same seven-iron length, the entire concept of improved play using single-lengths will, once again, be proven to be invalid.
@wodenoftheangles3339

Its not a mystery at all. Its called humanity. We're not robots. Using single-lengths irons (made by whoever) doesn't guarantee anything. We all experience changes in form. And he still has a certain skill level. The other guys on tour do too. Its just competition and the pro tour is a whole different beast than compared to college level...

Good comments! I have been following Bryson for a few years now. To me, he seems to be struggling much more with his putting than w his iron game. IMHO, the tiff w the USGA over his side saddle putter set him back significantly. He REALLY wanted to try that technique over a long period of time. Also, his dad's ongoing medical issues may still weigh heavily on him. He almost won the Puerto Rico tournament and his tee to green stats aren't bad. He's trying the Kuch type putting technique but looks "uncomfortable" to me in his set up and stroke. He just could NOT make a putt over the past few weeks. WHEN the putting issues settle out, I think he will start making some cuts and maybe even contend again! Look for him to reappear with a USGA approved ss putter in the near future. Good luck!!

Woden....I am actually MORE interested in his so called "single plane" swing (SPS) than the single length irons. The consistency and accuracy achieved w the SPS fascinates. DeChambeau certainly doesn't look like an old Moe Norman but there are some similarities when Norman was in his youth. Successfully combining a SPS w a single length iron set seems to make, at least "theoretically," an amazing opportunity for great golf! Especially for a senior like me!!

The clubs are fine. Hes a mental case that thinks he can win by out smarting the other players, not by playing better golf.

+Kirk Still, we will never know how he would have done with normal clubs. It's still possible that he doesn't have the talent to be on the tour with normal clubs, and that these single length clubs gave him the edge to just make it. There is simply not enough material to perform statistics. Maybe Steven Bowditch should have a look at these clubs;-)

"anyone can hit a 7 iron", Just another punch line to get the average Joe to dig into his checking account. No technology will compress a golf ball for you. YOU have to have the skill to do that and until you master that you might as well play with hickory shafted clubs .

TheNYgolfer ..... I think he was directing that comment to the golf aficionados at the clinic. do you play? if so... what iron do you think is easiest to hit? well most players would say the 7 iron.
@TheNYgolfer
@TheNYgolfer 6 жыл бұрын
Mark k I would say that most people attending clinics are not "golf aficionados " . Most are weekend players looking for a magic bullet , so these guys pushing products would be better off talking to the weekend golfer than the aficionados. As for the easiest club to hit. Most people , if they really thought about it hard, would be smart to say, the putter :)

TheNYgolfer I think he is speaking to the point of repeatability; for most people the 7 or 8 iron is the easiest to get a repeatable swing and result.

1. He doesn't have a one plane swing. The woods are a totally flatter plane which is a huge step function different. 2. The shafts of standard irions only vary by a few inches anyway. 3. He's a good golfer because he's a good golfer; not because of these clubs. He might even play better with normal clubs? He would adapt, just as all Tour pros do when forced to move on by their sponsors .... sometimes to use inferior products. That's what being skillful is. 4. Range displays are meaningless; just a series of Mulligan's which impress novices. 5. The human body normalises the "feel" with repetition. You can't retain the same "feel" of a golf swing day after day. Put a swing feel in there and in a few days you'll have to contort your action to get that feeling back. 6. This is all a massive marketing promotion. Don't forget that!

This Bryson character is done. He's made his "deal", that will make him his money for life. This "computer" and digital approach to a game that requires feel, hand and eye coordination, imagery, imagination, and intention. Bryson is a has been already.. Edel, is the pioneer of this concept and these Cobras are, I hear, shit. These methods are not the wave of the future.

"Bryson is a has been already.." LOL Really?? He almost won the Puerto Rico Open a few weeks ago. And in that tournament he demonstrated some of the " feel, hand and eye coordination, imagery, imagination, and intention" that you find important." For cripes sake...he's only 23 years old! T21st in his 1st Master's. T15th at the US Open last year. WON the web.com DAP Championship. Not to shabby imho. Good luck!

Very early to make that call. Being a good/great amateur player doesn't instantly make you a top tour player. He needs to work on how to prepare each week, how to shut out bad tournaments quickly before entering the next and just adapting to the grind of week in and week out playing. In college you have other things on your mind to help in the down time. Now if he misses a cut he moves onto the next tournament with that fresh in his mind. He'll get there and when he does I can see extended streaks of good top 5's/10's with the occasional wins. When he finds his comfort zone on tour I can also see a run of majors for Brian. His swing is very body friendly too so there is no reason why he wouldn't have a solid 20-25 years ahead of him before age maybe starts to affect his game.
