It was a “good” loss. RBY had: a ride; and fought off some solid attempts; and had a better tank. Gross got the one big move and that was the difference

Every time I watch RBY he just seems so close to being a force. If he can get mat management, work on his finishes and decision making nobody is gonna touch him. He reminds me of really really athletic kids in HS (I coach a bunch or r words) who make dumb decisions on the mat but it doesn't matter because they get away with it but at this level you just can't.

He wasn’t afraid of RBY’s shots because there was no consequence when RBY got on his legs. He defended the shot every time. He didn’t stall. He was trying to get that inside trip with the 2-on-1 the entire match. Just because he doesn’t take a traditional shot doesn’t mean he was stalling

i dunno I lost to many guys in high school who didn't take a single shot in the match but countered my shots and had better top wrestling than me. Gross at defense looks way better than Young's offensive advantages. Young rode well om top. I think Gross takes this 2 of every 3

Did you really see panic? I saw impressive circling and hands defense stopped him in his tracks with his hands, did not obviously stall, and did not seem to react to many of the fakes...I thought Gross looked at his worst the first time Desanto beat him and he has looked much better since

just remembered i lived in Apple Valley Minnesota at the time #1 in the country i went from 2005-2009 when the biggest name was Destin Mccauley thought to be the first 6x state champ but got 2nd 1 year....it was Destin 5x champ,Mark Hall 6x, Gable Stevenson 4x champ, and Seth Gross 3x champ...Destin ended up in a junior college..obviously won nationals last time i looked , Seth Gross #1 in country Mark Hall #1-#2 in the country almost always, Gable stevenson always #1..got to love being part of the biggest wrestling state in the country...some say Pennsylvania beats Minnesota but we dont recruit every kid, but i mean there are rarely any pennsylvania kids that grew up there all there life and become national champs but they are considered Midwest and if its #1 Pennsylvania #2 Minnesota #3 Iowa for Top Wrestling States(kids from the state and how good they come out of that state not college obviously)...i still respect that cuz i love the midwest being something so strong, i mean you dont have kids in texas or california getting up at 5:30 in the morning and running 2 miles before you start school at -15 degrees to get your mental and physical wrestling mentality at a pyschotic level...lol that has to be why all midwest is so strong in that aspect.

Just so you know, all of Gross's matches against top guys have been like this. Rivera had him on the rope until he hit a big move. This match is a mirror copy of the second match against DeSanto.

Frustrating match for RBY I'm sure. He looked like the better and by far more aggressive wrestler in this one to me, but credit to Gross for the defensive scrambling and ability to (barely?) not give up stall points. No excuses for the loss, but I think it's fair to say that RBY proved through matches with #2 and now #1 that he can hang with the best and has a legitimate shot at B1G and NCAA titles. WE ARE!

Bryce Hewitt he wasn’t stalling until the third when he got hit with stalling. Gross has always been a defensive wrestler on his feet being that he’s on average about 4in taller than just ab every 133. His attacks are all re-attacks but because he was consistently hitting re-attacks in my opinion he wasn’t stalling. The only exception being in the third when RBY shot in multiple times and gross didn’t take initiative and re-attack. I personally think the refs called a good match. You shouldn’t have to shoot in order to not stall. As long as you are taking advantage and not backing out you’re not stalling.

I don't know about that. Remember that the top three from 133lbs are out and the guy that finished fourth moved up a weight. While Gross is a champion, it's clear that he's not the same. I'll be surprised if he makes it to the finals at NCAAs. He's basically won all of his big matches by hitting a big move.

RBY was on the offense the entire time, i’m not sure what the refs were thinking but scrambling off attacks doesn’t mean you’re making attacks either. Stalling should’ve been called, and RBY definitely scored that takedown.
