So Awesome. Bloody brilliant in fact. There is an art to parts sourcing, and it's complicated when you live in a country that has a (relatively) teeny market and no real comparable manufacturing of it's own. So much of what we need to buy for projects like this in The Great White North ends up coming from the States, the UK or occasionally Australia, which of course means big freight costs and duty charges - and if you happen to get the wrong bit you can't just run around the corner and exchange it. Nor can you go hands on, take your own measurements, test fit.. so I for one have a MASSIVE amount of respect for the accomplishment in this video. Cudos to you my friend - Excellent work. Now I'm going back to cuddling my shiny new Dutchman CV axles that arrived yesterday.

Thanks for your patience! Life never ceases to amaze me with the curveballs it can throw, and the last 5 months are no exception. Dad had a Lacunar stroke late September of last year, and while he's pulled through it very well and has even been informed that it left no damage to his brain, it's nonetheless changed life around here. Here's a top tip from what we've learned ... fish. Yeah. The amount we're eating now, we're going to have to buy a boat. Also, more seriously, blood pressure ... if you don't know it, find it out. If you do know it, keep it below 120/80. The GT6 through this time has been poorly neglected as you might expect, but don't think for a moment that I've been twiddling my thumbs! My new "daily" project has kept me occupied and that'll find it's way on here soon enough. For now though, enjoy this new episode, and stay tuned for the next! HUGE thanks to our Patreons as always for their support in our shenanigans: www.patreon.com/FanatikBuilds

Good to hear that your dad had no brain damage. My wife had a hemorrhagic stroke in '16 when her BP shot up over 200. One specialist walked into her hospital room while we were talking and had to check his charts as he was expecting to find a vegetable as the bleed was so massive. She is having some trouble with her right side motor function but can walk, talk and dress herself so life goes on. It does make us thankful for OHIP as there are no life crushing medical bills. I am enjoying this build and learn something from you with each video. Looking forward to see this thing making noise and shredding tires.

QUESTION: I need more people like you watching! The way KZbin works is it serves "impressions" of videos to viewers, and the rate at which they click through determines some aspect of the algorithm telling KZbin to continue to promote the video. In other words, if people don't click, KZbin doesn't care. Hence "clickbait" exists ... Ok there's more to it than that... but this is a pretty important bit. My question is what changes to the Thumbnails and/or Titles of the videos do you think I should implement, to make the project more interesting/clickable? Thanks!!
@dmjunqueirarv2 жыл бұрын
Man, for me your videos and the build are impeccable. I don't know how to get you more subscribers, but this channel definitely deserves a lot more viewers... Unfortunately, what gets clicks is to body swap a R34 into a R35 in a messy and not very careful way, just to show... Not that I don't like the idea of it, but I prefer the thought and the effort you put into this build. Keep up the good work. It eventually will get the attention it deserves. I heard about your channel on The boss garage, by the way.

I know of only a few people who have the skills necessary to do what you do and I follow many of them, all fabrication. What you do is art in the most honest sense. High end watch manufacturing and the highest level of fabrication comes to mind. I’m guessing if fabrication was listed in the title those who appreciate fabricating would see more of this than not. “All hail the Algorithm” comes to mind. Viewership numbers certainly are not due to any lack of quality. So “All hail to you” is in order.

Happy to hear your Dad is OK! That's a blessing. My first car in 1970 was a '67 Spitfire which my dad and I put together from two wrecking yard specimens, one which had been rolled right and one which had been rolled left. I must say that working with my dad could really tax one's ability to put up with Dad's complete lack of patience for a dumb shit 16 year old. But we did it. I drove it for about a year and sold it. Oh well!

Sorry to hear about your Dad, glad to hear he's on the mend. Some of us a hardcore Project Binky fans, was more concerned you and father were ok than when we get our next slice. If it takes 6m or 60 years, I'll keep watching. On the Power Steering front, you can get column drive electric units which may assist with your packaging issues. I work for a major Tier 1 on power steering so ping me a DM if you need any help. Stay safe.
@aussiebloke6092 жыл бұрын
He could also use the same trick as Blackhurst used on Binky, with a hydraulic rack powered by an electric pump mounted out of the way on the frame. I think it's referred to as "electric over hydraulic" or some such. Best of both worlds that way, electric compactness with the feel of hydraulic - especially since with the lack of depth in the GT6 dash, an underdash electric could be hard to squeeze in.
@andrewharpin67492 жыл бұрын
@@aussiebloke609 Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering (EPHS) or Electro-Hydraulic Steering (EHS), most supercars of the last 10 years run a variant of the same system, which I developed most of the core. The main issue here will be packaging, Binky started with the hydraulic rack from the Celica. The GT6 doesn't have this so he would need to start again. Packaging was the problem for Binky, Binky had no space behind the dash for a Column drive EPS unit and no space for a Rack drive EPS unit. Here even a modified rack drive unit would not fit, hydraulic would also be a significant challenge (the precision required in these parts is extremely high). The other main issue with EPHS is the tuning, you can regulate the flow with the pump, but the pressure is still controlled from the valve in the rack, these are sized for the vehicle and the rack, modification of this is not possible without specialist machining and knowledge. They are typically designed for much larger and heavier vehicles, which means you are under-flowing the system (to reduce the level of assist), potentially inducing cavitation and causing damage to the system. Your only option is a column drive EPS unit, should he wish to run power steering. @aussiebloke609 Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering (EPHS) or Electro-Hydraulic Steering (EHS), most supercars of the last 10 years run a variant of the same system, which I developed most of the core. Thanks Andrew, appreciate the concern and well wishes! One of the best parts of these projects (for me) is the build itself, so I'm glad others feel the same way! I have been a fan of Holley carbs and such for years, but having been stung by the price of their bits and bobs kits, found a really good set of small drill bits, measured a friends kit and never looked back. Holley, pay attention- you need a "credit card impaired" buyer's program! Both saddened to hear about your dad's health problems and overjoyed to hear he has stuck around for a few more garage sessions- hope he is well soon and joking and joshing with you as you finish the "remaining 10% of the car. Note; that always takes several times the amount of time the first 90% did! Dad, we need you now, like we have never needed you before! For the rest of your clan, I'm grateful to hear all made it to the other side and will be with you for another holiday season. A note on "hot rodding by credit card"; when I got into it, most of the really good stuff, what there was of it, was way expensive, so you made it or did without- and it was a lot more fun, IMHO. You and your dad, and many of the Aussie boys, really take the "do it yourself" thing as a mantra- GOOD ON YA'LL! PS; waiting for your content, like Binky's, is always worth the time- ours and yours, I hope! Something new and or different, to be sure! FR Sorry I'm so late seeing your last entry- my winter was spent finding a new place to live- wheels came off in October, but not nearly so rudely as yours! Better days, Micheal! FR

Sorry for not being actively involved in the comments of your work these days, life's been pretty stressful to be honest, but I do see that you've made some great progress so I'll have to catch up soon. I've missed you and your Dad, pleased to hear things are looking up (HOLLEY!) I'm not sure how differently Spitfires and GT6's handle. My 1964 Spit (Brush painted black, bumpers removed, D Reg, MK2?, with a GT6 fibre glass bonnet, bought back in the day as a non runner for £80) taught me a thing or two about lack of power, lack of grip and possible car control. There was little power, did I mention that? All roundabouts were a trip into huge amounts of over steer. I was in London Uk when I had that car. Chingford North Circular Roundabout was a blast. Usually went home very late at night. Any dampness made it even better. Learnt how to balance a car when the rear end is trying to overtake the front end. Subject to the police, I would go back for several goes. Keep going! Cheers
@FanatikBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Thanks it's good to be back after some interesting months away! I honestly couldn't tell you how the GT6 handles in comparison as I've spent a grand total of 2 minutes riding in one! (this one, almost 8 years ago) ... I would imagine it to be tail happy in a wet day though just the same. Especially with over 300hp! Things that should help neutralize it's tendency to over-steer should be that we've improved weight balance (F/R) as well as put far superior suspension and tires on it. Here's hoping that all does what it's supposed to do! 🤞 Cheers to you as well!

WOW... you don't know how much I've been waiting for this... and I am SO glad to learn your Dad is on the mend and should get back to 100%. That isn't fun... my Dad had a stroke and then moved in with me for the 6 months or so of his life... It is a challenging situation and you will be in my thoughts. You are doing such an excellent job, and I'm eager to see you bring this thru to completion.

Thank you Tyler, it's been a wild ride but we're blessed that he's not had any damage and can use it as a wake-up-call. Still has ramifications as you'd know, but we're all coming out the other side with a better diet and more concentration towards health, so it's not all bad. Really appreciate the thoughts! Thanks very much man, I'm sorry to hear about your wife - hope she's stable and doing well? Haha, yeah I was initially expecting us to fabricate brackets but when I started pricing out this "mix and match" route, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. It was definitely really nice to just bolt some parts on for once but I'm glad we could still keep things slightly more inline with Fanatik "BUILDS" for the sake of everyone else at the very least! Haha, may not be next week, but it should be sooner than 5 months this time! 😂 Cheers and all the best to ya ✌️

Nice. Back in 91 in Toronto here..... we put a Buick 3.8 V6 into a 1980 TR7 convertible. Holley 390, offenhauser manifold, 10.1 piston, crane mild lift cam, coupled it to a GM 5 speed manual and built a hydraulic clutch assembly. Plus 2 rims, led to 15-40 rubber, beefed up the suspension ..threw in some headers and straight pipes with cherry bomb........had to cut into the hood to accommodate the air filter but flipped the cut out part and welded it backward to create a T-brid type scoop. Went like a rocket, cornered like a rollerskate. Lots of fun. Sold it to buy a motorcycle. More fun.

Great to see you back at it! Sorry you had to go thru the C-19, I know how it is... I marvel at what you have been able to accomplish, given it took me over 8 years to do a bone stock resto on my Sunbeam... but then again, I got married, went back to college, and had two kids in between start & finish!
@billmcgarry33002 жыл бұрын
Wow 8 years that’s fast, compared to my Sunbeam…I’ve been channeling my in “Ken Miles” to modify my 67 Alpine into a “Tiger” since dragging it across Canada in 2010. Same old story, family, business and life interruptions protracted significant progress until Covid, which proved to be a “blessing”. The last two years have been the most productive yet and I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope Ken likes my “improvements”. Enjoy your ‘Beam!

Glad Dad is doing fine. Its amazing how one medical problem can lead to another. Interesting combination to save 50% of the kit cost. As you and others have said "The Great White North" is not the easiest place to customize a car. Its finding and getting the parts and also the laws of each province regarding modifying street vehicles. At least we will get rebates on our stickers. Also like the custom cursor in the comment section. Glad you are back and looking forward to the next video.

Thanks Darrell, it really is amazing ... equally so is that he's doing well though, that's a real blessing! Yeah I'm very pleased with how it all worked out in the end, it's still not a small amount of money but every part (save the alternator) was brand new, and it's hard to complain with the quality! Haha, I heard about the sticker rebate thing... unbelievable! If only they had thought to put that in place before they required everyone to update them again in the fall - classic! Oh well, glad to get some cash back no matter the backstory! 😂 Cheers man, take care 👊👍
