Hey Dr. Mike, I’m a beginner (slightly over a month of consistent training) and your videos have been helping me a shit ton. Today I was watching one of the glute workout tips videos where you talked about putting it all out there and giving every set all you’ve got, and it really motivated me so I worked my ass off on leg day (almost puked in the middle of lifetime after Bulgarian split squats). Going to keep that mentality for every set moving forward. I think my biggest takeaway is that less is more if you make the most of it (no cheat reps, no junk volume, full effort on every set, focusing on technique, no ego lifting). I can only bench 14 reps of 85 lbs but I gotta start somewhere! Getting my noob gains going and I’ll put the plates on with time. Thanks.

As a beginner, you don't have to push yourself that hard yet. May want to consider keeping in the 3 RIR range until you start to plateau. As long as your weight and/or reps per set are going up each week (and it will for a while as a noobie) there's no reason to push that hard yet. Save those tricks for when gaining gets harder, because eventually it will, and you don't want to desensitize yourself while the gains are easy. Plus pushing that hard as a beginner increases your injury risk for no reason. Just my 2 cents as a MSK doctor that has been training for 20+ years.
