Nicely done Brian. I made a couple of his low back chairs a while back. Some dining chairs on my list. Did you start with some templates or draw them out yourself?

No screws in the leg joints? I thought paul uses screws no?

Dan Dumitrescu no on the dining chairs he doesn’t. Plus If you have your joinery tight, you don’t need any screws

Brian Robertson Woodworking Ordinarily I would agree with your comment here, most chairs are not screwed. However I made a maloof rocker about 10 years ago and didn’t add screws because the joints were tight. Now the front joints are starting to separate and I have to figure out how to correct this. Granted I am talking about a rocker and there are different stressors than a dining chair. If these chairs get any regular use, I would simply add the screws. They are a nice design element, and add fail safe protection. There is a fair amount of end grain gluing here and may simply not be strong enough. I would hate for anyone to find out ten years later that they could have avoided this headache simply by not leaving out the screws. This is not a criticism of your work at all, simply a comment from my personal experience. I think this is a fantastic build and really nice work here. Thanks for sharing this.

Dan Dumitrescu if you build the chair like maloof did yes you would need them. His joint wasn’t as deep as Hal Taylor’s and if Hal taylor doesn’t put screw in his leg joints then I feel safe not having them
