Building an Abandoned 1000cc BMW Engine from 15 YEAR Cold Storage

Ike disassembled this 1985 BMW K100 motorcycle back in 2005 because the engine had a knock. When he had the engine completely taken apart, he realized that the final drive shaft had worn and was causing the knock. The customer didn't want to pay to have the bike reassembled, so the entire bike and engine sat upstairs at Ike's work for 15 years, before we bring it down, reassemble it, and see if it will still run. The BMW K100 will be an awesome power plant for an upcoming go kart project because it makes 90 horsepower, is shaft driven, fuel injected, liquid cooled, and has a beefy alternator. The only question is... will it run?
Thanks for Watching!

I think that you guys got to find an old Briggs 7 or 8HP engine and use on a go kart. I have an example in my channel if you want to to see it. There real hot rod go kart motors with the low idle.

I have a 1986 K75S still sitting in my garage. Fuel pump went out about 20 years ago, the same time I was getting knee deep into a career and family. I preserved it well, I think it's time to resurrect the old classic. Man I loved riding that thing!

Ike, kudos to you. Hey Guys.... Love the video, as always.... Hmmmmmm, how would that fit in your FED (Front Engine Dragster)? :-) I got my second job when I was 12 yrs old working after school in a Go Kart shop, assembling racing 2 strokes on kart chassis, etc.... and racing on weekends. That was back during the early 1960s until I went in the Army in 67, then after I was discharged I got my introduction into drag racing "shoeing" (driving) a Jr. Fueler FED for a team... and at 70, I still love doing what you two are doing... Keep up the good work, and enjoy it while you can... PS; I can't believe that after all that careful re-assembly, you spray ether into that engine.... Ouchhh!! Nasty stuff!
