There is/was a tool called the Ding King that uses “hot glue” and a threaded bolt bridged over a dent. When the wing nut is spun, it starts pulling the dent. It’s been awhile since I’ve used one but it worked pretty decent.
@Wolf.Zachary4 жыл бұрын
I bought something similar at harbor freight for smaller dings. Not perfect but it's less noticable for sure.

Great job making those patch panels. I've seen the glue stick thing online too. I wondered if it would really work. The one I saw used a propane torch to get the sticks hot then stuck them on instead of using a glue gun.

I've seen the hot glue trick to 😂 but I would've taken a torch to the ends and used more sticks.

The glue gun trick stems from a pulling technique used in body work, where pins are welded along the dent and pulled out with a straight bar or a sliding hammer, saved so many hours of panel beating, filling and sanding for me a few times try making small welds with something you can put a bar through or pull and you should be able to get all those dents out
@PedalBox4 жыл бұрын
The learning curve on welding, especially on a live project is always huge. I look back at welds we did in the first few episodes which seemed 'fine' and no i'm thinking about grinding them out and redoing them. Also, Hotglue!
@52custom584 жыл бұрын
You should start backing your weld seams with 3/4 in strips of metal, drill 3/16 inch holes in panels and weld the strip through the hole leaving the other half of the strip as a landing for your patch panel, this is great if you have some gaps because your weld won’t blow through the other side it will land on your backing strip the you just weld, but only a few tacks spread apart and let it cool and repeat
@shakedownrc11244 жыл бұрын
I used the glue trick 4 day ago , it works some times. You must heat a few up at the same time with a blow touch , and choose the spot that you stick it to helps with the success.
@wjpreslar4 жыл бұрын
I have always found hot glue to over promise and under deliver. Pull the engine and trans so you can paint the engine bay too. Then focus on a clean install when you put it all back.

Search ke30 and ke55 parts, There's crap tones of stuff and they're the same front end. I have a ke35 coupe that I'm doing up atm. Hot glue
@JustAGearHead4 жыл бұрын
The HOT GLUE trick sometimes works on newer cars with thinner metal, but older cars have thinker metal and usually need a stud welder.
@kepic89794 жыл бұрын
I would have tried some more hammering of the fender. The metal is made to be reshaped!
@connorspurling22954 жыл бұрын
It helps when your welding thin metal to keep it from warping and blowing holes to have an aluminum or copper backed to act as a heat sink. It can help alot
4 жыл бұрын
kaleb, for the hotglue part, you have to spread the sticks out in a linear fashion so that they are in a straight line. melt the tips with a lighter and maybe heat the metal as well. that may work better. not sure, just a guess. worth a try though!
@StevesMachines4 жыл бұрын
Looking cool, well done on re-doing the bits that dont go to plan. The HotGlue attempt was rather funny.

Instead of hot glue just weld rods and use the slide hammer. Also you would be really surprised with what you can do with a nice body hammer kit.

I've recently started to do body work and I find it easy to cut out the section first and then use it as a template for the patch panel. It helps me match any bends and curves on the bench rather than on the car.
@enso31404 жыл бұрын
Caleb a tip when building patch panels when you build your mold cut it out larger than you need and do the final fitting by grinding with a flap disk you can achieve way better fitment
@nakedbandit4 жыл бұрын
Hot glue. I saw it on the internet. :) Heat the stick and then press it against the panel and hold to adhere/cure. I've actually just used the tip of the glue gun to melt the stick some and it worked. Some rubbing alcohol to clean the surface helps too.
@slackwire_554 жыл бұрын
Hot glue works better when the surface is very rough. A ball pien hammer and dolly or flat steel and some patience would have repaired the dent with the fender removed from the car. Not heavy shots with hammer but carefully placed repetitive taps and no welding. A little filler and you're golden.

Maybe check out Arthur Tussik (master of hammer and dolly) and Blue Collar Kyle (modern techniques for pulling dents) to get some ideas on metal work. I’m guessing metal on older cars is too thick for glue pulls. Going to be a cool car when finished.

I've seen that "hot glue" trick before, I think you have to use a torch on the end of those glue sticks and really get them stuck on there. I'd say it would do a decent job at pulling small dents, but idk about that old vintage steel haha

Bro, I can't believe you tried to cut that small dent out. Those guards are really thin, you should have taken it off and beat it out properly. When you do those doors just stick a football (NOT SOCCER) (the oval ball) in the door and pump it up slowly and hit around the dent from the outside with a rubber hammer I garantee it will work. I'm loving this build and can't wait for the next video
@justinbeigh754 жыл бұрын
You can get a kit at harbor freight that works well and it uses hot glue. I say paint it after you get it running so you don't run the chance of scratching the fresh paint!

if you want to do that hot glue thing, id say you gotta blow torch the end of the bunch and jam it on quick and hard to a nicely sanded surface?
@moficreations14 жыл бұрын
I saw that if you heat the dented surface up with hot water and then hot glue the sticks on and pull it that the metal will be malleable enough so it'll have more give in it pulling the dent out
@alistaircross99214 жыл бұрын

That fender, I'd beat, and Bondo it! Hammer that weld joint in concave then fill it to make it dissappear. That way you don't have to grind as much weld away and also weaken it.

Hot glue! I wonder if those suction cup dent puller would work better or if you just weld something to it and pull it then cut it and grind it down.
@christrainor11294 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, please get yourself a set of hammers and dollies and learn to use them. They will 100% make your life easier. You would’ve been able to work that fender back into shape without needing to cut it up. Also, a stud gun would also help you. Awesome tool for pulling out all kinds of dents and creases. Lastly glue pullers that use HoT gLuE typically only work on OEM paint finishes that are clean and degreased. The glue stick trick would probably only work on a “soft” dent, on a panel with nice clear coat that’s been degreased. Hope this helps, dig your videos, carry on ✌️
