Many of my viewers have asked if it's possible to make chaffles in bulk, freeze them, then reheat them later. In this video, I test multiple chaffle recipes to answer that question.
Dash No Mess Waffle Maker: amzn.to/31vCi3i
Soft Edge Slotted Spatula: amzn.to/2LyJZAb
Cooling Racks: amzn.to/305jVp3

I was going to stop making chaffles because I don't like mozzarella. I decided to try an aged cheese from a brand of Cheddar I like and it's working really well. I make a triple batch and freeze them. Reheat in my toaster oven.

Hi Steve, thanks for sharing your experience with freezing Chaffles. I have modified one of your recipes to make the savory kind. Here is what I used to make 12 Chaffles for the freezer: 3 cups of shredded cheese (150g); 6 large eggs; 3/4 cup of almond flour (100g); 2 tbl spoons of Onion soup mix; 1 tbl spoon Nutritional Yeast; 1/2 tsp of Xanthan gum; and 1/2 tsp pink salt. I put all the ingredients into a food processor and mixed for 2 minutes. I use two Dash mini waffle maker and cooked each Chaffles for about 4 minutes. After cooling on a rack for 10 minutes, I put them in a freezer bag and then in the freezer.

The "cornbread" chaffle is probably being a little generous with that title. I just found that Birch Bender Keto had that gritty texture and then the cornbread extract got the flavor close. I'm still working to create a cornbread chaffle that I can be proud of.

Been doing this ever since I have been on Keto with all waffle recipes. (Actually been doing this even before Keto. Always made batches of waffles and froze them.) Never had a problem. Then when the chaffle came out, did the same. I had no need for the Dash but I got one any way cause it was free for me. I love both. If I want to just make 1 sandwich, I use the Dash. If I want to stock up and have the time to stand there to babysit a bunch, I use my old 4 square waffle iron.

Steve, great video, as always! I was going on a multi-week camper van trip and took a bunch of frozen chaffles. When I had power, I reheated in the mini-dash (not enough room to take a toaster along). I am a bit late with my comment. For me the best way to reheat a chaffle is to use the waffle maker. The heat is evenly distributed on the chaffle and it is more ergonomic than the radiation heat of a toaster.

Thanks for the review. For the no mess waffle maker, is a single waffle the same size as the dash mini, or a little bigger?

More of a question than a comment here , how do I prevent the chaffle a that I make at home from being so dry? Am I cooking to long but I don’t want raw egg. I have a regular size waffle maker. Maybe this is the difference. I usually make egg and cheese. I love and can eat these breakfast lunch and supper. Thanks for all your information given always. Mgt

Most full sized waffle makers have fairly deep cavities or divots or whatever the indentations in a waffle are called. This creates more surface area on the chaffle, so it's going to cook faster and expel more steam (and thus moisture). Is there a specific recipe you find is coming out dry or is it all of them?
@mothermgt
@mothermgt 4 жыл бұрын
From the very easy cheese and egg only and also the sweet chaffle with egg,cheese,sweetener,and cocoa and pie spice. I feel like it’s the egg that makes it dry. Makes me choke sometimes.

I tell you what, give this one a try (the Sui Generis recipe): kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4DKYXafmtBqfJI. I found this recipe to be very breadlike. If it comes out dry for you, I'd wager it has something to do with your waffle iron and the temp that it's cooking at.

That would be hard, in that I think I've only had maybe one bite of tiramisu in my life, so I wouldn't know if I'm getting it right. This could be one that I enlist the help of my daughter with at some point. No promises, though.🙂

I wonder if the sweet chaffle would have crisped up in the air fryer? I don't own a toaster
@SeriousKeto
@SeriousKeto 4 жыл бұрын
I think the only way you could crisp up a sweet chaffle is to lay down a thin slice of Monterrey Jack on your Dash before cooking it. They just have too much moisture.

i've thought about putting my chaffles in the toaster, i guess my concern is that any fat/grease might drip down in the toast bottom and start a fire at some point. probably not a valid worry but wondering if you have any thoughts on that since you've got a lot of experience with chaffles at this point.
@SeriousKeto
@SeriousKeto 4 жыл бұрын
I actually looked this up when responding to someone else's concern. If you look up the flash point for various greases -- it's HIGH. The heating elements in a toaster can get to 600F, but even if you slathered up a piece of toast with grease, there is sufficient air space between the toast and the heating elements that the surface of the toast comes no where near that temp. Any grease would drip downward and, if heated sufficiently, would smoke long before it would catch fire. Long story short, the science of it (combined with the fact that no chaffle I've made has ever been "greasy") make it pretty much impossible.

How do you keep the chaffle from sticking to the waffle iron. I've sprayed it, buttered it and it still sticks? Frustrated
@SeriousKeto
@SeriousKeto 4 жыл бұрын
I have never used any sort of non-stick spray, oil, or anything else. I just cook until I don't see steam coming out of the waffle iron and it never sticks. I think maybe it's like when you're searing meat on cast iron -- it releases when the surface moisture is low enough.

What about making the "McGriddle" dough ahead of time, and freezing or just the refer?

I generally make them all at once, then bag and fridge. Because of how coconut flour hangs on to moisture, I'm not sure how storing just the dough (either fridge or refer) would work.
