A girl who used to bully me in high school is a nurse now. I think most bullies use this title as a "Look, I'm a good person because I help people now" type of mask to keep appearances out in public when people start to think negatively of their abusive behaviors.

I did my nurse training 10 years ago. I was 26. I was harassed by a group of 50 something aged women, really negative people. I reported it and it got worse. I qualified and I still have them giving me crap and dirty looks when I see them in the supermarket TEN years on lol. Some people never get out of the high school bully mindset. They seem to need a group to try and take new nurses down with silence, ignoring, rumours etc.

I wish I saw this post earlier. I was bullied as a new nurse. The experience was so bad, I resigned to take another position elsewhere. It happened mostly in front on patients, which was even more humiliating. The patients also felt bad for me. While in nursing school an instructor told the class "Nurses eat their young". She further explained that more experienced nurses sometimes bully less experienced nurses. So nurses will eat their "young" as in "experience", not age. So, for the most part, it is more about the "experienced" nurse bullying the "unexperienced" nurse, rather than the older nurse bullying the younger nurse. It just so happens that most experienced nurses are naturally older. Nursing is my second career. I was 55 when I graduated, but I was still a new nurse. Being a new nurse made me as much of a target as a younger new nurse because I was a new nurse too. In my opinion it has nothing to do with age and everything to with experience. I'm sorry that happened to you.

As a nurse tech in nursing school I have worked on floors where I would have fired everyone for a lack of character if it were up to me. How can moody, crabby, entitled people ever work successfully at a job that requires such humility to even do the job. I don’t get it.

Wana know why they bully you? here is the list: 1) youre young, 2) you are skinny, 3) you are pretty, 4) you are good hearted, 5) you have a passive/pasifier type of personality, 6) you are intelligent, 7) you are very self motived, 8) you are happy go lucky, 9) youll find a good husband 10) dont waiste time analizing people, 11) no offence but prob you are std-free, 12) im guessing come from happy parents? 13)you dont have kids? .....What evil nurse doesn't wants all of those qualities in her life? Because you reflect them and she cannot have them so she/they see you and run their mental checklist of Do's & Don'ts.....My sister works in the military hospital and I have volunteered at health clinic and noticed that all of these things play a role with nurses because studing in a health field can change you for better or worst plus the type of person you essentially are.....
@zulmakarnacha
@zulmakarnacha 8 жыл бұрын
+Zulma Z .....so in their minds (meaning the bitter nurses) cannot tolerate those qualities on another nurse because when you are next to them, they see themselves as the "I don't have those qualities and absolutely NOT YOU!" bitter mentality. My advice, dont let these bitter nurses subtract what you have, I'm sure youll get hired and do well eventually, but them? Too bad for them for not learning to switch their negative switch off lmaoooooo

This is really sad considering nurses are supposed to be kind hearted and sweet on the floor but behind the scenes they'll literally backstab you. My mom is a nurse and although she rarely has problems at work and is really respected for all her years of service she can attest that people will bully each other to get ahead especially among the new nurses
@zulmakarnacha
@zulmakarnacha 8 жыл бұрын
Yea. so true too many people becoming nurses because of reputation from society or for money, not really to have consideration for human life. thats why those who hire nurses should weed out those so those wont get in the mix and spoil the good nurses like yourself. You mentioned about your mom's gets along with people, she's probably a very good people's peoplle. Like some people love being around people and others do too but dont have a well develop social skill or their voice....their face....their body....even their skin inperfections become a big issue to others that they end up seeing that more imporantly to focus and demand to make it perfect. If you know your weaknesses and know how to improve them you can also attract more people in your favor....Think of celebrities....some are very popular with no talent but are very lovable. some are extremely talented but are not so likeable by people......Im not a nurse but i think that i would also clash with so many female nurses because I would pull out my mirror so they can reflect on themselves and start focusing on their lifes, instead of other nurses lifes. But im still guessing it all boils down to why bitter nurses allowed in the nurse field to begin with because most registered nursed want to become RN's not to handle patients but to control, order, supervise and make more money. and all the pressure from doctors makes them fall more into misery so easy way out is to pick on LVns and cnas.

I was literally "bullied out" of school my last clinical semester in 2007. It is such a pervasive problem, I really don't understand why it is like that. So glad to see this video made to highlight how bad it is. I am going back this fall to finish at another school. The best advice I can give is to be the opposite of nurses who act like this. Be positive and encouraging and "treat others like you would want to be treated".

Bullying in the medical field is very unprofessional of them. Sorry to hear that you had to go through that, but good for you sticking up for yourself and advising others to speak out on individuals like that. Nurses who eat their young make me sick simply because they want to return to high school again.

Don't worry I am the same way. Words hurt me too especially when I was pregnant and getting bullied and it seems that some nursing departments treat inexperience people with no respect and don't encourage others to succeed in the field. I've been there and it is pretty sad. I was ALWAYS an open happy person and now it has completely change me. Now I am working on myself and focusing and getting back to normal.

I see nurse bullying so much.. I am a CNA and a nursing student. Some of the LPNs or RNs at my facility allow me to observe more or even do a little more to get some expereince. Other CNAs have bullied me saying I am just getting special treatment. Mind you these ladies have been CNAs for over 25 years! It is insane. I just reported it to my manager and the issue was hopefully resolved (they can say what they want I wanted to just not be attacked anymore). Also an LPN I know was threatened for being pro 12 hour shifts at our work! LPNs told her they would not helped if their patient was coding!! I was insanity. I wish it did not exist because we all are professions.

Thank you for your video. it was very inspirational. I too have experienced bullying in nursing school. My professor would always yell at me and humiliate me at clinical in front of other students and patients. I experienced a lot of depression in nursing. My professor told that I wasn't cut out for nursing. I worked hard and graduated. I also experienced bullying when I started working as a nurse. It took along time but I mustered up the courage to report the bullying. It is not always easy for me to speak up because I am a very shy person. But I will not give up. I will be s better nurse because of it. Thanks again for the video.

Thank you for shedding more light on the issue of bullying in nursing school and in the clinical setting. It’s encouraging that you focused on how to move forward to make yourself a better person as a nurse and as a future mentor to other nursing students by humbling yourself and treating everyone with respect. Hopefully in this regard it can set a lasting example to existing and incoming generations of RNs.

I know exactly where you are coming from! when I first started nursing/ studying there were some older nurses that would just be so mean to me if I asked a question or needed help with something!! And still to this day they don't like me for resins I am unclear I have never said an unkind word to them. My advice is to stick it out as much as it is frustrating to have people hate on you simply because you're doing your job and trying to learn at the same time! Do not let it get to you, stay positive and look forward to where you want to be and work hard and you'll get there. I ended up telling my supervisor who told my boss who fixed the problem however sometimes no matter what you do some people will not like you simply because they can and sometimes your boss may not be on your side or even want to help! So just stick it out don't let them see they have got to you as hard as it is don't say anything mean back to them and just walk away! and most of all keep your head up! Great issue to bring up! Should be more posts like it!

When you do great work, people take notice. Most people will acknowledge and reward you for it. However others will be intimidated or feel jealous and will take negative actions. There are many nurses, but having a nursing degree doesn't make you a good nurse, and I feel like they saw a rising star and wanted to stamp on it. Continue shining your light.

Your very sweet. Most bullies can only be around the people they can bulldoze. I was bullied as a child. I dropped out of school in 8th grade. As a result of that I only graduated at 40! I went on to get my realtors license. I am now on my pre reqs for nursing. How hurtful that I sit and think who knows what I could have been if I hadn't of let them win. I turn 44 in March and I could never see anyone bullying me again. I wasted all those years and lost out on so much. I hope others know that the bullying is a reflection of the person doing the bullying. Its often hard to seek help but please do. Don't end up like me. Going back for a degree in my 40's. I love watching your videos. Your simply adorable! Xo

I have returned to school (a career changer) and I can't BELIEVE the bullying and rudeness displayed by some of the students. The cattiness in a few classes (one guy in particular is in both classes and I experienced the same behavior from people surrounding him...gee, let me guess why?...it's HIM), and then the rude behavior from a girl you is taking a class for a second time and treats me like I shouldn't be breathing her same air (honey - I'll ace this class first time, who are YOU to put yourself on a pedestal)? In both cases, I tried to turn things around by being pleasant and helpful to this person after they treated me rude for a while - and got the same or more intensified behavior back. - - - Honestly, I remember the words of scripture and songs that I was taught as a youth. (1) Turn the other cheek...(2) they'll know we are Christians by our love... and then if neither of those seem to work... (3) kick the dust off your sandals and leave that town behind. In other words, ignore poor treatment, be nice and pleasant when you must interact, but if nothing helps - let it go and move on. There are other NICER and SMARTER people who want to hang out and study...these aren't the only ones. If you believe in Karma.... you may just be their boss someday. ha!

I haven't watched many of your videos actually this is the second video I've seen from you I am currently in the lpn program and there's tons of drama of course because we are all together all day everyday, and we get sick of each other lol but I also have a bubbly hyper personality that becomes a tad bit overwhelming on others which I can understand and you're video is inspiring because you felt a sadness, and instead of bottling it up and blowing it off I strongly believe in addressing problems as soon as you can and you did that. I support you!!! don't listen to those who are discouraging they can go suck toes (:!

We get cussed out in our program. Seems like this is a common thing that falls only on deaf ears and blind eyes. I wish there were resources on how to report. No one should hav to go through this. I expect nursing school to be tough but I don't expect verbal abuse and harassment by our instructors.

Amen! Thank you. That's my fear of starting another nursing program are those dang cliques. I just got through LVN/LPN school and I swear, by the last semester towards finals... everybody changed! It was a dog eat dog world with them. They were mean, cold shouldered and very b*tchy. Like girls I though that were nice ended up doing a 360 with me. It was nuts, very highschool like you said. =_= The girls were very catty and I didnt like how they bag on eachother for fun, I'm not comfortable talking to people like that. I cried a few times while in the program due to fear and feeling inadequate and comparing myself to the others. I'm glad I at least had like 3 good students out of 30 I would say are friends. Now I pray I can get through RN school in the future.

You make excellent points, especially in that we are all fighting our own fights. We need to be able to understand each other and not undermine the perceptions or experiences of others; rather, we should share in them and learn from them as a nursing community. With that being said, I rarely talk to others in my class; I am usually approached by others. In my first semester, I was approached by several students that informed me that others in the class had already judged me and had called me some awful names. I hadn't talked to any of them before. Whether you are silent and keep to yourself or are friendly and ready to give advice, there will always be people around that will make a pre-determined judgment before even one word is spoken. As it seems that you have already learned, I simply treat others with polite respect. I don't have to like you to be able to work with you. I hope that you continue to work with this issue throughout your education and beyond. It is one thing to be lectured on bullying in the nursing career but another to hear it from someone who has experienced it. Hopefully this is the type of empowerment that new students and those continuing their education need in order to speak up and find strength against their bullies.

Thanks for putting your time and thought on this video you're very strong, I know I'm not in the medical bit yet, or however you call it but I have been struggling to get through the past few years and mainly one of the most important years in school doing my Highers or A' levels, so bad that I couldn't concentrate and could not study properly for my finals, and people continuously bringing me down and rumours about me etc as well as saying things behind my back which aren't true to staff which kind of hurt me because I never did anything wrong to them and I think it's because I'm kind to all people and sometimes they take advantage of that and I do not know how to stand up for that and thanks for letting me know as well as other people struggling with this because I know you will encounter things like this throughout life but this opens my mind even more that even throughout medical or any other professions you will encounter people like this. Sorry you are going through this, I hope things calmed down a bit now. Hope that everything is well. So sad to hear about it. You are doing a good job by inspiring other nursing students and sharing your moments whether they are good experience or not. Giving tips on how to study or what to experience in clinicals is just based on your experience, so you are not giving nursing advice on medical health and you are not doing anything illegal. Those who gave negative comments are not obligated to follow you, obviously you have something that is interesting to them. Don't feel discouraged and keep up the good work. Continue sharing your journey as a student nurse or as a graduate nurse, I'm sure you are inspiring many people. 👍 I'm looking forward to see more of your videos. 😉

Nursing Career seems to a lot invite predators that like to prey on the vulnerable. i was sent by my mom to nursing school right out of high school. My classmantes were heartless and abusive. They would pick on me for having autism and set social traps i couldn't see coming. I was a young autistic adult who like to socialize and they prey on that. One time, one of my classmates was showing everybody her new tattoo. i peak in at it and that triggered her to SCREAM AT MY FACE WITH FLYING SPIT at my face that "it was none of my business". Again she was showing everybody and decide to single me out infront of everyone and everyone just laughed and said i was annoying for existing and that should just disapear. Some of these women were single-mothers because they are sooo stupid(not saying every single mother is stupid, just saying these ones were stupid and mean) which made me feel so bad for their children. Also it's unacceptable to scream at the faces of autistics, we don't like that and many times can't see it coming so you are just being a cruel person if you do that to autistic people. discrimination agaisnt autistic ppl ir real and nurses are the biggest offenders of autism discrimination.

This is so beastly! I don't understand why Professionals could be so despicable! It's very sad how some are just so bitter and take it out on the rookies, why can't they get it in that brain that it's best to always assist a rookie to better the health system, because it creates a dominoe effect. Better health system more lives are saved! some people just need to get their heads out of their behinds.

I hate to hear this happened to you in the clinical setting. During my nursing school career I struggled with being bullied but it was by my own classmates. It got to a point that one of them almost lost their position in the school. Bulling is a big problem anymore and it seems like social media is making it worse. Best thing we can do from this situation though is to channel it and be a good role model for students in the future.

This is my advice. Get out as quick as you can. Once you are a nurse, the bullying doesn't stop - it's part of the nursing culture, not just a few nurses but way too many are like this. Nursing has one of the worst bullying problems and burn out is very prevalent. If I could turn back time, I would run from this profession. It's not worth living a life in misery, and that's what nursing is.

I will never understand how people who go into the medical profession to HELP the sick, can be bullies. I am getting ready to start nursing school but before that I attended nuclear medicine school, but there just aren't as many job opportunities in that field. The bullying isn't exclusive to nursing it happened to me while doing clinicals in nuclear medicine as well. I was actually really proficient in clinicals so I was bullied way less than my peers by the difficult techs in our clinical sites. If you don't want to help people this isn't the profession for you. If you don't want to teach students then don't work at a learning hospital. Let me tell you, the people who have issues with students are the ones who get into it with their fellow co-workers as well. I even heard of two nuc tech almost getting into a fight (in front of patients). I had the MOST difficult tech who set me up for failure and then of course failed me after I performed a scan. When it was over I went to lunch and wanted to cry. Instead I sucked it up and went to her after my lunch break and said "can we talk about what I did wrong so I know what to do next time?" & she never bullied me again. Eventually I ended up seeing her strong personality really make a patient mad and saw this same tech cry her eyes out in front of me. Then I had another tech who I asked a question to and she said "oh no I am not doing your work for you" because she simply didn't feel like answering so I said "well I appreciate you looking out for me but all of my work and test are completed I am asking for specifically so I can do better in the clinical setting." She never got rude with me again either. You just have to show that you have a thick skin, to people like that.

If you are currently going through bullying, please please please...p-l-e-a-s-e go to a big mirror and tell yourselfs: This is temporary." I MIGHT be (blank: whatever you are being bullied for) but I AM (blank: all the qualities you have that are positive). I am NOT going to fall on the ground because I am worth it! You on the other hand????? Who are you? then say the things you see in them that reflect why they are bitter. Now what i would do if i was you, instead of waisting your time, use your time to fix your self. Dont worry bout me honey. Worry about yourself

Unfortunately there is NOTHING the "victim" can do about the bullying unless she or he has EVIDENCE/PROOF that bullying had actually ocurred. Because if you say you were bullied without having Evidence or Proof of bullying acts- a disciplinary action will most likely be taken against the "victim" because she or he ACCUSED the bully without being able to prove she or he was bullied. I know it from my own experience 1
