Rich, I have used a Excalibur Exocet( same as bungie) Gold tip Lazer 2 with Wasp SST Hammers . Since 2004 ( medical permit to use crossbow before legal the next year) 16 years never have I ever not had a pass through . Get ride of those mechanicals use fixed blade. One year using a 657 grain 20" Gold Tip Kenetic complete pass through shoulder bone . There is nothing wrong with your bow it's how your setup. Congratulations on a great Buck. God bless

I have an Excalibur Grizzly. Shoots 305 ft/sec. I use standard Muzzy 100 gr fixed blade. Never had an issue with pass-throughs. The 150 gr Excal bolt cutters are very good too and are recommended. Use them too. I totally understand Rich wanting to try something different. I can see Bunjie making guest appearances from time to time.

Thanks Richard for the great video. Love your channel. Started crossbow hunting 10 years ago as my shoulder went out. I have shot many deer with my Barnett BCX. Started with muzzy fixed broad heads, and shot several deer that went 100's of yards before recovery with lung shots. Switched to RAGE Crossbow X, 2-Blade Archery Arrow Broadheads and the last 2 deer went less than 50 yds. I am sold on Rage....easy recovery for a 70 year old hunter. Just purchased a Wicked Ridge M-370 that is a joy to hold and shoot. Good luck in your next hunt!

If you want a full pass through, switch to fixed blade broadheads. I shoot NAP thunderhead 100’s out of my 130lb pull crossbow, and have yet to not have a complete pass through on the three bucks I’ve taken with it. Give it a thought.

@@Deathbybunjie hey, we’ve all got our preferences. I’m the exact opposite. I’ve shot mechanicals before out of my compound, and had issues. I swore mechanical broad heads off years ago. To me, that mechanical part is just one more part to fail. Just my opinion anyway. I really hope you dial in a broad head that checks all your criteria boxes.

Great deer. You turned me onto the rage hypodermic with the shock collars and they are amazing. My deer this year looked like he painted a red line through the woods and went less than 60yds. I didn't get a pass though either but it was insane. You aren't losing deer so keep it up with old bungie
@crowbranch4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the Rage Hypodermic works well for you. I used a Rage Extreme Crossbow head with a properly installed orange shock collar last year. Had an opportunity to take a gobbler I had a tag for during archery deer season. Made a good shot but the blades didn't deploy even after going into the ground. It's not just me, many hunters had a similar experience with Rage heads. The crossbow that I used is rated for 370 fps. Disappointed I tested another Rage Extreme head at home by jamming it through a cardboard box. The Rage went though and didn't deploy. All other expandables I tested throughout the years opened in the cardboard. After much research I settled on SEVR heads for a replacement. I couldn't be happier with accuracy and performance after extensive testing and practicing with the actual heads I'm hunting with. I didn't get a chance at a buck (yet) but my friend borrowed my backup crossbow rated at 305 FPS (same Axiom crossbow as Bunjie). He used the cheaper 1.7" SEVR version on a nice buck and it died within sight. That was a couple weeks ago and he has since ordered SEVR Titanium 1.5 and 2.0 versions to replace his Rage heads for his new crossbow that just arrived. I highly recommend checking them out. Lusk Archery tested Rage Trypan and SEVR head to head in a KZbin video if you would like to see a comparison.

Nice buck harvest. That side angle camera shot was awesome. Must have been fairly close, did not appear to move before the bolt hit him. Even high double lung hits should give you decent blood trail out the mouth and nose. No complaints there. I have experimented with heavy FOC bolt setups. Penetration is awesome, but the trade off is the loss of arrow/bolt speed to hit the animal before it can significantly drop at the shot. I was fortunate that buck did not react to crossbow going off. Bolt was 630 grains. Next bolt setup is 470 grains with 3 blade muzzy and lighted nock. Once you use lighted nocks, filming and the ability to see where the bolt hits is so enhanced, you don't want to go back to standard nock setups. Thanks for sharing.

Then you will have to figure recurve again or compound. Compactness isn't related to our Excalibur bows. I have a Matrix Mega 405 n love it but its still big. I did just get the 10pt RS470 and OMG i love it. Its super compact and lighter than my mega 405. So many possibilities n wish you good luck on whatever your choice is. Oh congrats on a fine buck. Nice buck Rich! Congratulations! So. My thoughts. Go for a faster bow with a little heavier arrow. The ballistics don’t lie. Heavier arrows penetrate better, retain velocity further and are usually more durable. The micro series are just great and I love mine even though I need new limbs. My Ten point is a whole different level of crossbow and I don’t see myself ever going back to the Micro 335 as my primary xbow. Yes it’s that good. As for broadheads? I’m not a fan of mechanicals. The mechanics of the point take up a lot of energy on impact. A good fixed blade will fly just fine, penetrate even better and I’ve had no issues with fixed blade Muzzy MX3s for years and a whole bunch of deer. Great video and congrats again! Oh one guitarist to another. All hail the king! RiP EVH.
