I'm currently taking my Bachelor's in Music at National Taiwan Normal University, and I'm way behind my peers. My teacher gave me Burgmuller's work to study over the summer. Thank you so much for uploading these videos! It's a great help for someone like me who can't afford more piano lessons. God bless you!

Thanks for providing this lesson on the music of Burgmuller. I am an adult learner who has been playing the piano since I was 9 years old. I am now 64 and although I earned a Ph.D. in musicology I was not a performance major so I am only an advanced intermediate pianist. I heard of Burgmuller but never learned any works by him. I think this is a delightful little piece that is excellent for perfecting common passages that occur often in the repertoire, namely parallel thirds and sixths. I see great value in going back and cleaning up my technique with pieces such as these. Your clear instruction helps to make practicing and playing these works beneficial for the young and old alike. I watched your Hannon video about a year ago and have been practicing the Hannon exercises more diligently as a result. I hated playing them as a kid but as an adult I really enjoy the challenges they present. I have begun to deal with the pain and stiffness of arthritis and I hope that the Hannon exercises will help to keep my fingers limber. Thank you for the time and effort you put in to providing these lessons.

Your tips on hand position on the descending staccato thirds and the fingering for the legato sixths had an immediate impact on my ability to play this piece. Thank you! I’m very much enjoying your videos.

So glad to see this today. I just finished the 3rd piece and ready to start on this one. I can’t tell you how nice it is to listen to what it’s supposed to sound like before learning. My goal is to go through the book taking a week or so for each piece in Burgmuller and still having time to work on other exercises and other solo pieces I want to learn. Thank you for all you do for piano students!

Hi! I wanted to say that this video is amazing, good job! Your focus on the movement of “hopping “ the 2 4 and the feeling of touching is genius. Piano is most effectively learned when broken down to its molecular level almost. You are a pedagogical surgeon!

Thank you for your generosity! View number for Burgmuller series is not great, but comments (and of course, Super Thanks) like this is what keeps me going. It may take a while, but I'm planning to continue the series!

Thank you! This was helpful. My former piano teacher suggested that I not follow the fingering in the book, but just use 1-3 for every third. Because of this I’ve not known what to do, so now that I’m having to teach myself, I’ve skipped this one and I’m working on #5, which is very pretty. But after watching your video, I think I will try this one again.

I'm glad you found a new perspective through my video. I don't agree with 1-3 all the way, because they are not even fingers. It's not impossible, but 2-4 adds more stability and let you transit easily to the main theme. Good luck!

Your lesson is great Akira! I am looking for the sheet music that has the same fingering like the one you show in the video: 5-1 5-1 5-1 5-1 5-1 5-1 5-1. It will really help me because I have very small hands. Can you please tell me which version it is? Thank you, and I am looking forward to seeing your next video!
