There's been a lot of negative comments about the Condor Bushlore. Even so, I've just ordered the knife . I think there is something about the Bushlore that , if looked after and treated with respect , will be a loyal companion for many years. Always enjoy your vids from the bush.

I also have a Condor Bushlore. Excellent knife with an equally good sheath. It is 1075, so you have to maintain it. Sharpen it and strop it . But I do that with all my knives regardless of the type of steel. Bottom line, quality is good and if you like your knives, you will take care of them and they will last and serve you well.

Great Video Dave. I am terrible about keeping up with the maintenance of my gear. I like that you showed that just owning or knowing how to use a piece of gear is enough. Without proper care it will not last long, nor perform as it should. It was also a great lesson on activities that could be done while in the field. Thanks for the reminder of the love and care we should be showing to our gear!!!

Putting a mirror polish on a carbon steel blade makes the surface less porous, which makes it less prone to rusting, because the surface is smooth & there are no microscopic grooves for water to sit.

Very nicely done. Were those King waterstones? I've been looking for long, small ones like that for a while. Just a personal thought on sharpening: When I was a kid growing up in the bush, the elders used to say make a knife "knife sharp." Sharp enough to cut meat cleanly, not paper, since the thinner edges were more fragile. The only thing we made "wood sharp" were tools intended to cut wood. And the only things we made razor sharp were for fine carving or straight razors.

Say Heah Dave, I'm glad I caught this video. I ordered a W. C. Master Woodsman for wet and snowy trips, But he takes a long time to make a knife, Maybe he's busy, I dunno, Anyhow I still wanted a stainless blade, So I ordered a Benchmade Arvensis and teamed it up with a Bokor Ridgeback, The Bokor is in 440c. The Arvensis is in the CM 154. My W. C. Master Woodsman is in CPM 154. I thought I would buy myself some B'Day Gifts, So far I was good to myself and including my Piggyback Kydex Sheath's Baldric Carry and I can separate the two knives and wear them separate, plus another Kydex Sheath for my Rodent 3, Plus some Hatchet Holster's and a few necessity gear, like a large ferro rod plus picking up another knife, I put myself in the poor house, I'm glad B'Day come only once a year heh heh heh, Anyhow, I will be Plenty-One 10-6.

Hey dude! Another great video. So I have one of these on the way - it'll most likely be my backup to my TOPS BoB. I've read dozens of reviews and watched several KZbin vids on this Condor Bushlore, and quite often people claim it has a Scandi grind. I can clearly see that most don't (unless they've perhaps been reprofiled to a zero. Yours appears to have a Scandi-vex type modified grind. Is that true? If so, how do you suggest finding the right edge on that micro-bevel when using whetstones? Thanks for any advice, in advance!

Great video Brother. I am trying to decide if I want the Bushloore or the Kepheart , but I am going to purchase one of them soon. Another tip is if you don't have any ceramic, you can roll your car window down about 1/2 way and use the top of the window glass to hone the blade. Love the videos Brother. Keep up the great work!

Excellent video sir. I'm torn between getting a Woodcraft by council or their velvicut Hudson Bay. I need to replace my Cold Steel Riflemans tomahawk as I've found that while it can do the job, it's not good at splitting wood evenly as the head shape stops at the handle

just opened the bush lore package the knife was sharp but did need some touching up there were bright spots on the edge a dozen passes on each side of my Smiths diamond hone and a dozen passes on the ceramic stone and then stroping with flex cut gold polishing compound worked out all of the bright spots and it is shaving sharp. I like this knife it has a good feel and heft, not sure about striking a spark with chert but it does a great job with a Ferrocerium rod nice big ol balls of hot sparks. the blade shape is very similar to a Kepheart blade. The scabbard is a simple leather a fare with good strong rivets top and bottom and fine saddle stitching in between and a big thick welt . All in all I think this one will retire all the rest of my blades

all strokes are repeted on both bevels Now I did find it necessary to give it a going over with my Buck diamond hone on the coarse and fine sides , the blade had a spot or two that were catching on my thumbnail as I drew it lightly (no pressure) across the wet nail. Then re-stroped with Smurf poo on the strop and finished it with the flex cut gold. lightly oiled it with 3 in one machine oil and gave the handle slabs a going over with hard wood floor wax. knife and handle shine like a new penny. any way proud of the knife as new pup

Great tip on sandpaper, I'm gonna have to get one of those kits. I've never used fix'n wax, what does it do for a wood handle? I'm asking because I have a new Gransfors Wildlife Hatchet that I'm thinking of putting something on the handle.
@HighCarbonSteelLove

Fixn wax works to condition the wooden hand and offer a bit of moisture protection. For my axes, I treat them with boiled linseed oil. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your good question! -Dave

Hey Dave, I just picked up that sanding kit at Auto Zone, thanks for the heads up, it works great.I do have a question that needs your first hand knowledge.I own the Huskvarna carpenters axe and I love it but I really can't stop thinking about that council tools woodcraft axe, I literally am obsessed with the thing. How much difference is there between the carpenters axe and woodcraft axe, like in chopping splitting, daily bushcraft situations. I guess I need to find a way justify buying the woodcraft or be content with my carpenters axe. Man I'm obsessed with that woodcraft axe!!
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! There are several differences between the 2 axes. The carpenters axe is definitely built for carpentry. The heavier weight, the long straight cutting edge and overall design of the head all contribute to wood working. While the carpenters axe is a good axe and will do some camp tasks like I show here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4ukkKCrn9ebrLs - the Woodcraft Pack axe is made for specifically for bushcraft/woodcraft. It is forged with superior steel, is lighter weight, has a thinner less fatiguing handle, 25-degree flat grind, and is made in the USA. Its a much more traditional head, with phantom bevels and an excellent poll. I think you would love the Woodcraft Pack axe, Jason! It has exceeded all of my expectations over the past 6 months of use. Great question! -Dave

Thanks, Dave.. that's really helpful video. And how good the edge retention of your condor bushlore? let say, compared to the any mora that you have.
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 6 жыл бұрын
I am glad I could help out Joe! I would say that compared to my Mora knives, the Mora's have better edge retention. I have to sharpen the Bushlore a lot, however, it's not really a problem, as it's always fun to touch up edges! Thank you for watching and great question, my friend! -Dave

It appears that you’re not sharpening the full bevel of the scandi. Ever have any issues with the grind becoming too thick since the scandi is inherently a thick grind to start with? Just curious. Love the vids!
@HighCarbonSteelLove
@HighCarbonSteelLove 5 жыл бұрын
This particular Bushlore had a saber grind from the Baryonyx Knife Company so I just needed to focus on the edge. Thank you for taking the time to stop by, my friend! I have not had any problems with the scandi's becoming too thick, but maybe I just don't pay too much attention...haha! -Dave

Just wondering where you got/bought the leather wrap on the Axe, that helps to keep from hitting it on a piece of wood? Looks good and really is functional too. If you made it, or bought it, let us know, some of us are interested. Thanks!!!!

curiously, what if you don't bother with the rust? Would the structural integrity of the blade weaken over time, or is it just for cosmetic purposes? I understand that rust itself does weaken, but only where its present. When you remove it, you're removing the part of the steel weak in the first place, correct? (as it appears to just be on the surface, so it doesn't really seem harmful)
@HighCarbonSteelLove

Without the rust, my knives and especially axes flow through wood much better. I don't mind taking off some steel to remove unwanted rust. Thank you for taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave
