Well placed mirrors do an awesome job. I used an acrylic one outside in the pretty small backyard at my parents house to visually expand the place. A wooden fence you can't see through "opened" by a narrow pergola framed passage with the mirror a bit tilted at it's backside. Until you stand directly in front of it, you just see plants in it. It tricks you brain to imagine it's going on. Even more as fence does interrupt the visual axis forcing your eyes to focus either the fence or the plants behind. Interrupting visual axes (bushes, small trees, ...) is a neat trick to "enlarge" small places.

It's designed was influenced by the Bauhaus School of architecture, furniture, and industrial design of the 1920s -1933. It was shut down by the Geman government in 1933. When the Bauhaus staff began emigrating throughout the world it became the Internation Style that would last until the 1970s. Tel Aviv in 2004 was named to the list of world heritage sites by the UN due to its abundance of Bauhaus architecture. It had some 4,000 Bauhaus buildings erected from 1933 onwards. This precedes the mid-century style of architecture. Mid Century Modern is an American design movement in interior, product, graphic design, architecture, and urban development that was popular from roughly 1945 to 1969, during the United States' post-World War II period.

I've always loved the graphic quality of those metal framed industrial windows. Makes me wonder if the builder found a factory that was being torn down, to recycle them like he did the timbers. I own a condo in Seattle in a mid-fifties complex that has much the same kind of esthetic; the tile in the bathroom is pink, too, but with black trim. The very simple storage/mirror arrangements he used throughout set off the quirks of the original architecture.
