I feel like the cheese would do a lot better added directly to the bottom bun. Then it would melt into the bread instead of sliding off a piece of meat and burning to the edges. Bet it would make a great texture too.

Yes. That's how you should do it. I have this device and if you put the cheese on top of the meat, it will not stick to the egg. It just slides right off.

I have one of these, and cheese directly on top of the bottom bun is definitely the way to go. Also preheat longer, cook for 4 minutes, and the egg doesn’t leak. Cheese on bottom bun also produces a sandwich that doesn’t slide around as much. I usually just plug it in as soon as I decide I want breakfast then start grabbing the stuff.

Some tips, make sure you pre-heat it, oil the cooking surfaces, after you add the egg, cook for a minute and a half, then add the top muffin and cook another minute to a minute and a half. Leaving the egg to cook a bit first before adding the top bread decreases the cooking time so the bottom doesn't overcook. And as you stated, add the cheese after the sandwich is done cooking. Make several on theweekend, wrap each tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for future use. Remove from plastic, wrap in paper towel andmicrowave 90 seconds or so, depending on how strong your microwave is. Very convenient for weekdays.

I love my breakfast sandwich maker. A few tips I have found: 1. I scramble my egg first, it cooks up into a nice egg disk. 2. I use half a slice of cheddar cheese per sandwich. It melts, but is not all gooey. 3. I don't add the cooking oil at the pre-heat. Once pre-heated I add the bottom muffin, sausage, and cheese, then lower the ring and spray with cooking spray just before adding the egg and top muffin. 4. I have the double sandwich maker, and make up 6 sandwiches at time. They refrigerate or freeze nicely in a sandwich bag. I refrigerate them so I have them for the week, and then microwave them for a minute...perfect.

These are dope! A few things that could help: Shredded cheese is easier to melt but I normally fold the edges inward and put it at the bottom bun if I'm using square cheese. Smaller eggs tend to work better, but you can lightly press the lid for a quick minute for larger eggs and it won't bleed over as much if at all. Hope this helps!

We take waffles seriously in our house kzbin.infoUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn and worked our old one through many years of Sunday brunches till it finally gave out on us. Our old one only made two at a time, this one makes four! Nicely sized 1 inch thick which are lovely! Now the kids don't have to wait as long to eat our weekly waffle breakfast and everyone's are hot if we wait and eat all together! Setting 3 seems to work perfect for golden brown. Be sure to pour the batter in the center of each waffle square, not the center of the iron like the novice that posted the scorched waffles photo. About a 1/4 to 1/3 cup of batter in each seemed to work well for us. We tested making just one at a time so we could use all the remaining batter and it made it just as fluffy and golden as when we made 4!

I also learned, after the very first sandwich, never put the cheese on while it's still in the rings lol What a mess. I always put it on as soon as I take it out. I had one of these for about 5 years and used it quite often. A few tips that i learned over that time is use grated cheese instead of American. Also the top plate is not big enough to hold a large egg and english muffin most of the time so the egg squeezes out the sides. I also did not like how crisp the top english muffin gets. My final solution for everything was put a muffin in the bottom with some grated cheese and then a sausage patty. Add the egg to the top plate break the yolk and set the timer for 4.5 minutes. After 3.5 minutes the egg is cooked so i add the other half of the muffin for the last minute so it heats through.

This is what I do as well. I didn't like that the egg and the top muffin become fused into a single thing. The texture is kind of strange because the egg soaked into the bread and then cooked. If you wait a little while to add the top muffin and the cheese, it comes out better.

@@richdaley9982 Totally agree! The only thing that sucks down here is the sausage patties. The regular McMuffin with Canadian bacon is actually one of the less "bad for you" items they sell at McDonalds. I have the older model without the timer. Been using it for a few years now, on most weekdays. It's starting to show its age in that the non-stick coating is starting to flake off of the ring assembly. Particularly the separator plate. The hinge is also getting a bit loose. Still, I love this thing! I was chuckling at this video, and saying he needs help with his technique! 😁😁 1) Use a deli slice cheddar or other harder cheese. Trim the corners and fold them over into a double thick smaller square of cheese. 2) Cheese goes under the meat. 1 & 2 will help with excessive cheese melting. 3) Make sure the separator plate is fully in place before putting the egg in, then give 5 or 10 seconds to set before putting in the top bun. This will eliminate or greatly reduce the spillage. Also, I spray the avocado oil onto a paper towel, then wipe that onto the cooking surfaces after the unit heats up. Spraying it on directly before heating seems messy to me.

I've had my Hamilton Beach for just over 10 years and it still works great. I use to put English muffins in it but I changed it up. I get 2 pieces of Texas bread and use the circles from the Hamilton Beach unit to cut out the bread. Then I put one slice of the bread on the bottom, then cheese and then the ham or bacon. Lower the first ring and then add the egg and lower the top and wait about 30 to 45 seconds and then add the 2nd piece of Texas bread. I don't spray the unit before using and nothing sticks and it cleans up really easy. Thanks for the video.

I love this thing. I have this one and eventually got the double one. Has worked flawlessly nearly ever use. As others have said you should definitely be putting the cheese on top of the bottom muffin (I think it mentions this in the manual) and also I always use real cheese and have never had a problem. Kraft Singles melt to fast and don’t taste as good. From what I’ve seen, it takes about 4.5 minutes to cook through if you put the ingredients on immediately after it’s done preheating, but after a few minutes of being pre-heated if you start your sandwich at that point it will cook the same in 1 - 1.5 minutes less.

It's an interesting idea but I think that it's much less messy and less to clean if you just use a pan. American cheese melts in about 10 seconds so adding it in the end is a good idea. If you go to any Salvation Army or Goodwill, you will see at least two or three of those on the shelf.

I solved the cheese problem by avoiding american cheese. I use sharp cheddar and everything is perfect. The problem with American cheese is it just melts into oil if left to heat too long. I also do not go for much longer than 4 minutes and don't spray cooking spray on the non-egg rings. The egg ring is the only one that needs the oil so I only spray on the sliding plate. Just fold and tear into 4 pieces and place overlapping within the bottom bun. Also, found scrambling the egg in a little pour cup works best. Pour in slowly from the middle and it won’t leak. Being more dense with the yoke blended it doesn’t leak out like the whites do. Also, this thing makes awesome taco bowls using street taco sized tortillas 👍

If you cook your sandwich for 4 minutes it’ll still be good, and the bottom won’t get burned. I’ve noticed that you will get some egg spillage but it’s not a big deal to me. I also add the cheese once I remove the sandwich from the machine - once the sandwich is cool enough to eat, the cheese has the right amount of melty-ness! Also, for better results don’t use the individual wrapped cheese. Use the higher quality ones like from Sargento or Tillamook or from the deli counter.

I have the older version, but I love mine. I cook the egg first on the top tray, then come back and add the muffin, meat and cheese, but I pull out the middle section so it all cooks together. I also use shredded cheese. Hardly any mess. I'm on my second one.

This is practically a nostalgia item, for me. My father-in-law had an older version of this thing, which he called the "Egg McMuffin Machine," and I thought it was awesome. My wife (then girlfriend) wouldn't let me buy one. When we got married, my father-in-law gave us one as a gift, trumping my wife's concerns. We used to make a lot of early morning road trips, and I'd often get up a little earlier than necessary and make a couple of sandwiches for on the road. It became something of a tradition. We didn't really use the machine much outside of early morning road trips, as it was almost as easy to just make a proper breakfast on the stove, but we really enjoyed it for those occasions. When our unit finally died, we didn't replace it, but I'll always have fond memories of the HB "Egg McMuffin Machine".

James, after the first one, my initial thought was to just put the cheese on AFTER you remove the sandwich from the machine. I think you'd have that perfect melty consistency in about 30-45 seconds since the rest of the sandwich is piping hot. But I don't have one of these so I may be talking out of my hind quarters. Great review! I think I may order one of these.

I don't need 2 dishes to clean when I cook up my one egg... I have this camp pot/pan The pan is also the top for the pot. But the pan is small enough to cook that one egg the right size circular shape. I love it! And that way I use only one item to make the egg that way. Plus I rarely ever use the electric oven/stove to cook my food. I rent a space at the parents. They have the oven/stove which I can use, but I actually cook in my space with a Butane camp stove or my mini-burner on isobutane canister. In the summer I will also cook outdoors on the campfire. The lawn is big and surrounded by forest where there is a good camp setup for campfire, tenting, chilling in nature.

I got the same thing from HB except it makes 2 sandwiches - side by side. Mine doesn't leak or anything like the video. Maybe the tightened the tolrances for the side by side version. Also I've found you can just bend each corner of the cheese slice inwards towards the center and it works just fine. No need to cut it.

I use mine all the time. I start with the bread / pancake on bottom, half a slice of cheese folded in half on the bottom bread. Sausage on the cheese, and the egg on top. I'll usually toast the top piece of bread and add it at the end (I don't like the egg soaking into the bread). Makes a perfect breakfast sandwich.

Glad you did this review. I have considered one of these before, but after seeing how much effort you had to go through and uncertainty, I think I’d rather cook my own breakfast samich according to my own tastes and standards. Sure, it might be quicker to a degree, but maybe one day I want the egg softer, or less cheese meltage, less crispier muffin, biscuit or whatever bread. It’s just easier in the long run to cook your own samich. I’ll say that the device is neat, if I had one I’d use it from time to time when in a rush, but mostly, I’d make the time to cook a breakfast, or whatever samich to my liking supervised by myself. Keep up the good work, sir. Always look forward to your videos.

Been using mine for years. Find putting the cheese on the English muffin before the meat works better, and add cheese with the egg. Also let it cook for 2.5 minutes before adding the top English muffin so the egg is set and doesn't leak out.

Two things I do that fix problems in the video. Let it preheat beyond when the green light comes on. The middle part get hotter so the eggs will start cooking in contact and not leak. I break the corners off the cheese so it fits better. I put two corners below the meat, the middle part above the meat and two corners above the egg.

Yes. I have used this many, many times and love it. Except I don’t use all five minutes. I give it 4-4.5 minutes. I also spray all the way around. As for the cheese, take it and cut it in half, and make an X across the muffin. That will help with the mess.

I just purchased one of these after the Christmas break and received it in the mail yesterday. Mine is black and doesn’t have a timer on it. It does have the red and green lights where when I plugged it in the red light was on to indicate the unit was preheating. Then after a few minutes the red light went off and the green light came on. After loading it up and after about five minutes the green light went off. It must be a different model of the same machine by the same company. A pretty good sandwich on my first try. When cleaning I discovered a little cheese had leaked onto the bottom cooker and a little in the back where all the hinges come together. Easy clean up. Only thing, i need to add a meat. I know I can buy frozen precooked sausage but I don’t eat pork. Maybe turkey sausage or something. I’ll be using this thing a lot!

I have the double one from years ago. It works perfectly and makes amazing sandwiches. The issue is... um... I never use it because it's put away in my pantry and it's easier to just toast the muffins in a toaster and use a pan to cook sausage, cheese, and egg. Wash one pan and done. But... I have to say it does work really well.

I also add cheese below the meat on the bottom bun. As well, I let the egg cook a bit before putting the top bun on, don't have many issues with egg leakage. And I've never sprayed cooking spray on mine.

I have one of these and I do like it. I have also customized my method of sandwich making. I like to place the muffin top in the bottom. Fold the cheese fit and place it next. Then I place the meat. Close up the bottom section then put in the egg then the muffin bottom. I also like to cut the cook time to 4 minutes as I like a little runny yolk.

I use a pancake griddle for many things I cook. Eggs, hash browns sausage and pancakes. I would cook egg/sausage on griddle and use a 4 slice toaster to control the crispness of the bread. Cheese will melt of the griddle and all ingredients will be hot and or crispy.

I have the dual maker. Never had a problem with egg running out the sides. But I don't make sandwiches much with it anymore. Nowadays I use it to easily cook just the eggs. I can cook 4 eggs at a time with it in under 4 minutes (I set the timer for 3.5). Just put the egg where the bottom piece of bread would normally go. I let all the eggs cool, pack them in the fridge and snack on them just like a hard boiled egg. No need to peel hard boiled eggs.

I make my sausage and egg muffins differently. I've found a frypan on Amazon that has 'indents' that can hold an egg and cook it completely round. I can place my sausage into another 'indent' and top and bottom into the final two 'indents' I can assemble when done to my liking and add cheese or not, depending on my mood. There are other versions of the pan with both four and five sections to them.

Love how you say it's Canadian bacon.😀 It is simply called "back bacon" here in Canada, where "Canadian bacon" is traditionally unsmoked back bacon that has been sweet pickle cured and coated in yellow cornmeal. It comes from the pork loin of a pig. It looked like you put a piece of ham on that breakfast sandwich.

The way I make mine usually results in no spillage. Preheat, add bottom muffin/bun, cheese, ham, then 2 small eggs with a few glugs of whole milk scrambled goes in, then close the lid. After a minute, I add in the top muffin. The timer is set for 4 minutes, once it's up unplug the unit and let it cool for 3-5 minutes with the sandwich still inside. The residual heat will finish the eggs and brown the top, while the cooling down period allows the cheese to set a little so it's not a flowing mess and I can't eat the sandwich right out of the maker anyway, too hot for my liking.

I have one. I use shredded sharp cheddar and I don't think it liquifies quite as much as american. The main thing I do different is let the egg cook and solidify a little before I add the top bun. I don't have egg running out - maybe adding the bun later is why, or maybe I use more cooking spray and it seals the gaps?

I ate one of these every day before work for about 3 years. I easily made over 700 of them. First you need to put the bottom bun with all toppings except cheese and let it cook for a minute. This serves to fully cook those toppings as well as to heat up the top level more. You want it as hot as possible for when you put in the egg. No leaks because it will solidify faster.put the top bun on the egg and let cook. About 30 seconds before you would normally pull it out, take your cheese (I fold in the corners) and lift up the top half of the cooker so you can see the bottom bun (if the sides of the eggs are white then no worries of spillage). Put the cheese on the bottom bun and let cook 30 seconds or so. Then slide the trap door and take it out and eat. Wipe down the surfaces with oil once a week

I use egg ring in a pan, toaster, and a microwave (to reheat sausage or cook bacon). I put the cheese on the English muffin as soon as it comes out the toaster which melts the cheese nicely. Ring, pan and plate go right into the dishwasher. The Breakfast Sandwich Maker would just take up cabinet space.

I’ve had one of these for awhile now. If you put the cheese on the muffin first and then the meat you don’t lose the cheese and it’s much easier to clean up. I tear the cheese and place the two pcs so it covers the muffin without touching the sides of the grill. Works every time.

I'm kind of surprised you've not tested this before. I've had mine for years and really like it. It doesn't seem to do scrambled eggs that well, but is great with fried eggs, as long as one remembers to make sure everything is properly in place. Also, for the cheese, place the cheese on the bun, then put the meat on top of that; that way the cheese won't be sticking to the egg divider thing. Doesn't really work for anybody that only wants an egg cheese sandwich.

My daughter’s fiancé who lives with us has one. He makes breakfast sandwiches for the five of us every once in a while. He uses sausage patties. It takes a bit of preparation and cleanup is a bit more than a one pan method. I can make them in a pan with an egg ring, and toaster in about half the time and cleanup is a bit quicker. I don’t personally see an advantage but I’ve been cooking since I was a kid. It’s mostly in the process.
