My first long distance trip with BYD Seal. ​Started from home at 7:00am with 100% battery level. Reached Ipoh (220km travelled) with 61% and reached Kamunting toll (286km travelled) with 50% battery level remaining. Had lunch in Taiping and stopped at Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (Ipoh) with 32% battery level remaining (383km travelled). Quick top up 29% (32% to 61%) and reached home with 23% battery level remaining (total 599km travelled). ​Calculation 1: 50% get 286km, so 100% should get 572km. ​Calculation 2: 68% get 383km, so 100% should get 563km. ​Calculation 3. 100% + 29% - 23% = 106% get 599km, so 100% should get 565km. ​ ​Driving condition: ​ACC setting at 110km/h Air cond setting at 23c Only driver in car (1 person only). I am happy that it is very close to the claimed WLTP cycle of 570km. ​

How is the ground clearance on the high speed bump? Do you also know the convinience for passangers on the back seat in bumpy or bad road? Esc if compare to BMW Series 3.. Thank you..

@@christpoke1922, ground clearance was my concern as well before I book the car. I did check around and found that it is almost the same as the Toyota Camry Hybrid that I was driving for 7 years. So, I decided to go for it and true enough, I did not have any problem after driving BYD Seal for 3 weeks now. In fact, I feel that the BYD ground clearance is slightly better than Toyota Camry Hybrid when cross over the road bump due to slightly more solid suspension in BYD Seal. I can't comment on BMW 3 series driving experience as I do not own one or driven long enough to make a fair comment. What I can comment is that sitting inside both cars, BYD Seal interior built quality feel more premium than BMW 3 Series. Perhaps only 5 series come closer if you remove the badge.

I like your review, very honest and interesting but there is just one point which almost every Seal review I gets wrong....the AC temperature and fan speed can be controlled using the buttons on the steering wheel, with the graphic appearing in front of the driver on the 10 inch display. I have owned my BYD Seal 6 weeks now and it is a fantastic machine, best car I have ever owned but to fully understand the infotainment system takes a bit of practice.

Tesla model 3 it's expensive in my country about double the price, meanwhile this BYD it's 25% cheaper than Tesla 3 but more premium and high spec than tesla 3 here.

I usually get around 550 km on a relaxed drive, using about 14 kWh. I could probably get 600 km if I really babied it.

is there an option to upgrade the rear view mirror to a camera display? I find its very limited and narrow. Since there is already a camera pointing at the rear, we can take that feed for the rear view mirror. Zeekr has one model that does that.

actually this car handling very well, especially that soft suspension, so you can feel that body roll n tail ... it aint track car as you know every corner, with soft suspension you can do throttle steer ...

I've own a seal premium for 3+ months now. Somehow the milage I get from 100%-10% batt is about 300km only. I commute to work daily (30km) on usual PJ traffic. Kinda frustrating coz my 16 yrs old Vios still could get 400km average milage on a full tank. I know they're not the same car. But seal 300km is less than half of its claimed CLTP range. Even this guy said he got 468km on the seal premium. Can any other Seal premium owner share their experience?

7kw ac is a deal breaker. That means you better charge it as soon as you get back home or stuck in the middle of nowhere if there is no dc public charger around, which costs more to charge than regular fuel stations.

How far do you drive in a day? I get 7kw is weird, but I drive on the medium/ high end about 80 to 100km a day, and 7kw will have it easy back to full before work the next day.

@@OTPulse imagine you came back from work and your car battery is at 10% because either you or your family mmber had forgotten to charge it after coming back home. You plug in immediately just to get any extra juice you can get because later you have a function/banquet to get to. You had a quick shower and came back after half an hour because there was only a paltry 3.5kwh energy charged. Still, you think, beats nothing. You barely made it to the banquet. The banquet unfortunately have all the charge points (If any) occupied so you can't charge it while you attend the banquet. After it all ends, you finally found a public charging DC point but it costs you extra money and you still have to wait 5 mins just to be able to get yourself back to your place, and have to painstakingly plug in again. You see, things will be much, much more easier if you have a 22 kw ac obc equipped ev. Because you charge faster, you last longer, and potentially less relying on public charging facilities that charge you extra unnecessary dollars WITHIN your city. It is no brainer that you want your phone to be fully charged in a few minutes instead of an hour, yet you are ok that your EV can only be fully charged in more than 10 hours instead of mere 4 hours, providing you have 80+KWH battery capacity.

so true, when BYD decided to cheap out on the onboard charger, I will never get one. For me now in the Msian market, the Smart#1 is the best overall, premium interior and 22kw ac.

@@littledevilz BYD "cheaping" out on the charger is probably a net positive in the long run as faster charging is usually worse for the battery. But giving us options in software for 7, 11, 22KW can't be that hard. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but is enough to make me prefer cars with better charger options.

Just tested the Seal today.. I agree that ergonomic wise it's not that great when all the functions are built into the screen, and there is no split screen function to get multiple views .. Interior wise not the sturdiest built quality.. I am waiting for Su7 that seems to have better ergonomic with physical buttons and more functional interior layout..

SU7 definitely looks nicer in and out, daily stuff comes in physical controls and the software looks pretty smooth as well with the Snapdragon chip and Nvidia Drive.

Why I will not buy the BYD Seal right now ... *Blunt throttle response which is noticeable in all modes. *Hated the turn indicator sound and various chimes, it was a pain. *No built-in maps and navigation, which is a big miss for a car in this segment. *The software was a bit buggy. *Most of the controls are through the main screen, which is a major distraction and a safety concern. *HUD is useless in bright light and only displays current speed. I would have preferred a proper instrument cluster; this one is small and is busy with too much information on a small screen. Though I didn’t scrape anywhere, it will be a pain on slightly larger speed breakers and on bad roads.

Had my seal for about a week and can say that a lot of your concerns have been improved massively. -Weird chimes and things can now be switched off -Has an integrated map (though not as good as Teslas Ill admit) -Software has been smoothed out a lot and is far more responsive -Pretty much everything can be controlled through the steering wheel so not as distracting (but not perfect) -The HUD does display more than your speed such as speed limit and various configurable settings (it can also be turned off if you don't like it) -The instrument cluster is about standard size as pretty much everything on the market but it can be changed with two (slightly simpler) alternatives if you prefer I do live in Australia so not sure if these updates have made it worldwide yet but they have made a huge difference in the experience of the car. Is it perfect? No but I still love it, but very valid concerns none the less. But totally up to you :)

Not sure what you meant by your first point, but for your second - I agree vertical screens are better for navigation, but the built in maps still isn’t good enough when it comes to POI on maps, and that’s why I still have to rely on Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. And as I’ve mentioned in the video, you’re forced to use the screen in landscape if you’re on Apple CarPlay. Hope this helps. -Woon
