AJ Dybantsa is a basketball powerhouse, no doubt about it-he's got the skills to dazzle on the court. But let's be real for a second, AJ: while you’re dunking on defenders, you better also be dunking in The Honor Code. BYU's campus is full of legendary athletes, and let's just say, being the big man on campus means you’ve gotta be a bigger man off the court too. We don’t need another Brandon Davies situation or a repeat of what happened with Noah Waterman, Jaxson Robinson, or Atiki Ally Atiki. So here's hoping the hype doesn't get to your head, because it would be a real shame if your game got overshadowed by off-court drama. Study up, AJ-those Honor Code fouls are worse than any you’ll face on the hardwood!
@Biszzle18 күн бұрын
AJ is very focused on basketball. He chose BYU for many reasons. One of them being that he wants less distractions. He'll be one and done. That will make it easier for sure to keep his focus on his craft and not get caught up in other things.

I hope he is aware that other BIG 12 teams might try to set him up for failure with the HC. Honey pot scams could be deployed. Just watch out. He will only be in school one year.

Is Hall good enough to help maximize Dybantza's full potential? I say yes but BYU will need to replace Deman with an equally good shooting guard. Can BYU use the same donors to help buy / land the 5 star QB (Lyon) next season for Kalani?

Long term this is huge although the performance last couple of games hasn't been great. But getting him is like getting Lebron James. It paves the way for other high high caliber recruits coming even more so than Egor, Catchings, Staton have done. Although they may have paved the way for AJ to come one could argue. Other very highly ranked recruits will now consider BYU who never did. And assuming AJ goes #1 in the draft, which he will, and he stars in the NBA which is likely, he's going to get BYU tons of attention. Also the exposure BYU gets next year is going to be like nothing we've seen just like Cooper Flagg is this year. I don't like to over-hype guys, but this guys is the real deal- who is a program changer for now and years to come

I love BYU but if signing AJ at a cost of 7 million, it is without debate, an issue that challenges our values as a Church owned academic institution. How many people of real need could be best served with this money. AJ will be here for only one year and will never have an impact on the BYU community beyond that season.
@malaw51417 күн бұрын
Google the 2023 caring for those in need summary. 1.36 billion expenditures across 4,119 humanitarian projects in 191 countries. This includes clean water and sanitation, emergency relief and healthcare projects. These numbers will increase in 2024. Nil money is not church money, it comes from donors, the majority of which likely pay tithing and contribute to the church’s charitable contributions funds. Many of these donors graduated from BYU, BYU being successful is important for the mission of the church. The athletic department is well run and self sustaining, it did not need a PPP loan during Covid, it successful navigated independence until the right situation presented itself. Now BYU has announced a medical school with an international focus, this is not possible without the success of other branches (including athletics) of the university. This attitude of take x dollars from here and spend it over here is extremely short sighted.
@ChrisGibby-ni2fe17 күн бұрын
The 7 million likely includes his preexisting NIL contracts with Nike and Red Bull. Not to be harsh, but who’s to say those major donors who put together an NIL deal aren’t already donating a ton to charitable causes anyways? This isn’t some scenario where if BYU doesn’t spend this money on an NIL deal it will go to people in need. BYU doesn’t get that money if it doesn’t go to AJ, and it would never see the light of day.
@malaw51417 күн бұрын
@@RayMcCoy-Redskin21 church spent 1.36 billion in 2023 on humanitarian aid, emergency response, clean water etc. They also just announced BYU will be creating a medical school with an international focus. BYU also didn’t require a PPP loan during the pandemic. Believe it or not BYU being successful across the brand is beneficial. Consider them (both church and school) financially well run institutions. Also realize that the 7m you are questioning doesn’t come from either the church or BYU. It comes from 32 major donors and donors across 30 states. And if the majority of these donors align with the general demographic of BYU alumni then they have likely already,in addition to tithing, contributed to the churches charitable funds. Easy to spend other people’s money from the couch though isn’t it.
