Great to see. Perth Airport will be the third Australian airport to have a railway. Which airport will be the fourth?

Hopefully by 2100 Banksia Grove will see a rail link also?

Thanks for your comment, according to METRONET's "East Wanneroo District Rail Alignment - Land Reservation Study Engineering Summary Report" a future development is from Joondalup to Gnangara and Wanneroo East with a timeline of 2051, it looks like the route would go south round Lake Joondalup then north through Banksia Grove to Wanneroo East? This is the link if you would like to read it in detail. www.dplh.wa.gov.au/getmedia/17f3088c-a31e-48cd-b1d7-bf368e43646f/DSP-East-Wanneroo-Appendix-E-District-Rail-Alignment-report ...Drew

how is the Forrestfield line (and later Ellenbrook lines) interact with the existing system, is the Forrestfield line going to run like the Thornlie line on the Armidale line into the city???? is the Ellenbrook line terminate at Bayswater (sorry from Perth, now on east coast but still Perth has the best transport system)
@DrewsRailwayWorld3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for watching, as it stands now the Airport line is fully integrated into the Midland line at Bayswater Junction (just like the Thornlie Spur) and trains from High Wycombe (previously Forrestfield) will share the Midland line into Perth, and the Fremantle line to Claremont, where turn-back sidings have been specially built to accommodate the 'Airport Link' service pattern, that is Claremont - High Wycombe and vice versa My understanding is that the Ellenbrook line will terminate at Bayswater, turn-back sidings are being built between Bayswater and Meltham to accommodate this. However, I suspect there will be point work at the western end of the station that will allow the Ellenbrook tracks to merge with the Midland line thus allowing for through trains to operate to Perth perhaps utilizing Platform 9? I can't imagine there won't be some through trains in both directions, even if it's just in the peak periods, it would be strange if commuters had to change at Bayswater. I am sure the planners have it under control but the rail traffic increase between Bayswater and Perth will certainly impact on the one remaining level crossing at Maylands, unless they are planning on closing it? I love Perth but I do miss the many railway options on the East Coast :) Cheers Drew

@lwf51 Thanks for the feedback, I am sure your PTA contact is correct, it makes perfect sense, and thank goodness. My only question then is what is the purpose of the turn-back at Bayswater, is it for stock stabling, an/or disruption events further along the line, e;g, issues at Maylands, or toward Ellenbrook, etc.? ...Drew

Hi Will, your absolutely right, will open up train travel from the airport after International travel restrictions are lifted

Do you have a track layout of this junction when the Ellenbrook line will be connected? I think the line to Perth is going to be very busy once three lines use the same tracks.
@DrewsRailwayWorld3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tibor, thanks for watching. What I can tell you for sure is that the Airport Line's up and down tracks will join the Midland Line up and down tracks at Bayswater, result 4 tracks become two as in conventional junction. However the Ellenbrook line will have 2 of the 4 platforms at Bayswater dedicated to it, the other 2 platforms will service Midland and Airport trains. So although there maybe a link at Bayswater station the 2 physical Ellenbrook tracks will terminate in the station, or possibly continue through and join the main line after the station, how the service will run is pretty much guesswork, my best guess is that most Ellenbrook trains will terminate at Bayswater, whilst maybe every 30mins or so there would be a through service, however, this is pure speculation. Your right though the line will be 2-3 times busier than now, so the crossing just outside Maylands might become problematic, we shall see :)... Drew PS I've sent you a link on the Ellenbrook Line, watch at the start as the train leaves Bayswater Station it looks quite complicated :)

tear up Bayswater, they did not touch Beckenham or Cannington when adding the Thornlie line
@DrewsRailwayWorld3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. I agree it does look pretty bad now but what has been lost is the old railway car parks on Whatley Crescent both sides of King William St., and a historic tree which has been transplanted. Bayswater Station will become the first station after the junction where the Midland Line will join the Airport line, and the Ellenbrook Line will converge making 4 incoming tracks to Bayswater. There had to be a major change with 20 trains + per hour at peak times, two extra platforms and a turnback on the Meltham side for some Ellenbrook trains. Whereas, Thornlie was never intended to be a spur line, and it only exists because extensive changes and a tunnel at Kewdale had already been built as part of the original 1999 Southern Suburbs Railway (aka Mandurah Line), so when a new government decided to change to a more direct route for the Mandurah Line in 2002, via South Perth and Canning Bridge, rather than waste the preliminary works at Kewdale, they created a limited single track spur to Thornlie. Thornlie trains would not stop at Beckenham so it really didn't need any changes*, and Cannington was a relatively new station having been moved from it's original position in 1969. Hopefully after the melee at Bayswater we can enjoy what looks on paper like a great transformation largely supported by the local community. Footnote, *Beckenham Station did get a major overhaul in 2014, and now the Thornlie line will at last come into it's own with the extension to Cockburn Central. . ...Drew

Oh yes I can't wait for this new airportlink railway line it will be very similar to when you catch the train to the airport in Bristol and I bet as soon as the vaccine becomes public people will be able to travel again
@DrewsRailwayWorld3 жыл бұрын
Good point Will, and when you think of all the other new lines and extensions in phase 1 of Metronet, like Byford on the Armadale Line, Thornlie to Cockburn Central (linking the Armadale Line with the Mandurah Line), a new Midland Station and Bellevue (Midland line). the Ellenbrook Line, and the extension to Yanchep on the Joondalup Line. Not only that but new railcar construction at Bellevue, including new Australind units. I'll have to look up that Bristol connection, my brother lives close to Bristol. Cheers Drew

Hi John, thanks for your comment and feedback, I take your comment onboard and will certainly review the read time to extend the time if its possible to do so without changing the flow of the 'story' . Unfortunately I can't do anything about the existing videos without going back to the production process but from my next upload due soon I hope you notice an improvement, thanks again. ...Drew
