@@muath1401 all dogs can interbreed with wolves. A girl I know adopted a wolf-dog hybrid (they are really weird and big). dogs and wolves are still basically the same animal. And also just looking at modern birds like the emu and cassowary makes it pretty obvious that raptors did not go extinct. there are genes in normal chickens(as well as all other birds) that go unused for developing teeth. There are even fossils of a raptor called Archaeopteryx that had a raptor head with teeth, no beak, yet had feathers and could fly using its wings it also had a uniquely bird like ankle structure. And there are no known bird fossils that are older than when archaeopteryx lived. Yet there are many more bird like fossils dated after that point. The people who study this stuff don't debat it.

Fun lobster fact! In the past, lobsters were considered disgusting and fed to the poor and dogs. So when the American Revolution came around, the American revolutionists were insulting the British Redcoats by calling them lobsterbacks, which would have been a fairly derogatory name due to the common idea of lobster at the time.

In the Museum of Science in Boston, they have on exhibit a giant lobster. I think it's over three feet. I remember seeing it as a kid. My mom wanted to eat it. It was estimated at over a 100 years old. It is estimated that some whales can live as much as two hundred years and that there are whales swimming the oceans today that remember their friends and family members being hunted by New Bedford whalers. It may even be possible that whales that Herman Melville wrote about are still alive. One whale was recently found with a harpoon in it that was manufactured over two hundred years ago that nobody has used for over 150 years

Eventually the lobster would get so big that gravity and the physical limitations of its own chemistry would prevent it from moving and it would die. It's limbs would be too heavy to move. The material of its body would not be sturdy enough to sustain itself. It's limbs would twist and bend under its own weight, then eventually break. From there it would be too heavy and cumbersome to move itself. It'd be a lump of tissue and nerves. You could hardly call it a lobster anymore.

No, just because it's living doesnt mean it can feel pain, do jellyfish and bacteria feel pain? No, just because they are animals doesn't mean they can feel pain, the jelly fish is literally a brainless, organless blob floating in the water, and bacteria are literally one of the first organisms to ever exist.

We already have genetic repair machinery. Every single day every cell in your body (about 7 trillion of them) undergoes about 60,000 DNA damage events. That adds up to about 4.2 quintillion DNA damage events. Your cells have specialised enzymes in at least 10 different pathways that fix >99.99999% this damage. We already have telomerase in our cells too, well, specifically in our stem cells and in telomerase-positive cancers (about 85% of all cancers).

It is factually impossible to die of old age. What actually happens is that when someone is so old and die, NO ONE does an autopsy on the body BECAUSE they're old. In truth, it is usually due to something else in the body going bad, like a heart attack, stroke, etc.

Actually, telomerase exists in adult human beings too, particularly in certain forms of stem cells as well as in tissues that are regularly regenerated, for instance in epiderms (such as skin and mucous membranes) as well as in the case of various blood cells that need to be generated continuously.

If a tree never gets a parasite or runs out of water and nutrients, can it live forever?
@OmegaMegalodon8 жыл бұрын
potentially yes. The tree is immortal.
@vejymonsta30068 жыл бұрын
He's right. Biological immortality does not entail freedom from death. It just means death is determined by some exterior physical threat rather than a cells inability to replicate.
@OmegaMegalodon8 жыл бұрын
Jorna Rood Depends on your meaning of immortality. To put it in another way, biologically immortal organisms do die, but they don't seem to age.The bristlecone pine is a good example. Many plants could be essentially immortal. For instance, many cultivated plants that are propagated via cuttings or tissue culture are effectively the same organism over thousands of years. Example: all the difference species of bananas we eat today comes from the same plant years ago. Plants do not die of cancer and they do not have organs in the sense that animals do. Many trees die due to environmental stress, such as disease or insect infestations etc.
@OmegaMegalodon8 жыл бұрын
Jorna Rood for the record, plants and trees are the same. I see that you also research bananas from google, isn't clone come from the same tree? It would be good if you can do some research before you shoot your mouth in this comment sections.

Bret Weinstein (I think) discovered that lab mice have abnormally long telomeres. This explains why all the medicine they test on mice doesn't kill them but does kill us. Science is to proud to admit that big of a blunder tho so I doubt it will change.

So the question(s) for an indefinite lifespan is; "how do you produce more telomerase than you lose and if so is there some form of moderation that needs to be applied? Secondly, is it possible to inexpensively manipulate telemerase? Thirdly, if it is possible to prolong my life this way today, what is cost?"
@omega50408 жыл бұрын
Cryptosporidium 137 there is a treatment that feeds you the stuff your body stops producing, as the dna unravels from the telomeres disappearing so the new cell doesn't get the blueprint to build stuff. It has to be custum made depending on the person. It was still being studied with promising results in old people reverting some aging problemas, treatment is going to be crazy expensive.

Another good question. Is there a way to slow down the death and splitting of cells without an adverse effect? If cells lasted a little longer and split slower, this could also result in a longer life span. But this is probably way more challenging.
@Duke00x8 жыл бұрын
Shade Nox there is a theory of lower caloric intake. it us said it can slow down cell death and decision. the theory is if you keep your caloric intake to around 1,800 a day many/most cells get a signal to repair rather then replace. This keeps them alive a bit longer. This in turn extends your life span a few years overall. Now last I heard this was still now a definitive thing (i.e. more research needed to prove if it is even a real thing or if it works with humans. or something like that. one study seemed to show it works on mice. But I think a later review or second study may have found questions with the first one or was not able to fully replicate it. I am only half remembering something I half heard on these last parts. I only really know about the first study in any detail).

There's a mythology about a lobster in Japan that was huge sea monster and live for over 300 years. This was before it was killed when it attacked a sea vessel. I know Legends are blown out of proportion, but with a lobster potentially being unable to die because of being biologically immortal, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Although we might refer to as a monster class known as the Kraken. A kraken just doesn't have to be a octopus or squid.
