what pains the most is one minute they’re your bestest friends in the world, and the next they’re strangers. even though he hurt me so much, brought me so much pain, i know the love i have for him will always be superior than the negative emotions I feel towards him. that’s what sucks the most.

I thought the same. I thought we would grow old together, always support each other through anything and everything. Now that it’s over, I look back and I see all the ways in which I was there for him when he did the absolute minimum for us. How could I be so blind? It all feels unreal.
@alicemccree Жыл бұрын
@@JournalMyExperience It's so hard to see any wrongs on their part when you love them so much that you're willing to compromise on things that were previously non-negotiables. I realise now how important it is to be honest with yourself on the things you truly NEED and not to settle for any less - for me, communication is one of the most important things, along with bravery and honesty.
@JournalMyExperience Жыл бұрын
@@alicemccree so true. I tried to communicate for 12 years. I tried so hard. I emphasised the importance of communication. And you’re right: I should not compromise on “non-negotiables”. Turns out I really did make excuses for him and never ever thought he was doing anything fundamentally relationship-endingly wrong. The funny thing is he is the one breaking up with me now and I am thankful for it because two months ago, I was still fighting to keep him. I can’t believe how blind I have been to his blunders.
@alicemccree Жыл бұрын
@@JournalMyExperience I'm sorry that you had to go through that. It's funny how we let them slide because what they did wasn't inherently bad. It just didn't make us feel too good. I told my ex from the beginning that aside from communication and honesty, I needed him to be someone strong. What I meant by "strong" was someone brave and courageous, which he told me he wasn't. But by that point, I had already learnt things about him that I thought were great qualities. I thought if he's not the most courageous person around, then that's okay because the pros outweighed the cons. Things were going so well until one big disagreement, and he essentially ghosted me. Now I know that bravery and courage are definitely my non-negotiables. Not only did he refuse to talk about the problem, but he didn't even have the courage to break up with me properly. He just *poof*. Anyways... here's to us doing better, and may we both meet someone who's willing to stay through thick and thin 🥂

Every one of my breakups taught me a lot! They made me aware of warning signs and red flags, it made me take a good hard look in the mirror to, what was I doing wrong, I was the one allowing this treatment, I never set up boundaries for myself and others so I told myself I will set up boundaries and if anyone ever crosses those boundaries I will walk away and let go and grow! Every one of my breaks up after leaving my daughters abusive father has lead me to the healthy relationship I am in today! I stoped allowing men to treat me with disrespect! When they showed me bits of their true colours I left and didn’t look back! I gave no leniency with mistreatment! The man I am with was never given the opportunity to disrespect me! Yes we have disagreements but that’s exactly what they are and they end minutes later when one of us admits we were wrong! We never fight! I stoped allowing anyone to disrespect me, belittle me and invalid my feelings and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself! Set boundaries and follow them!

Everything I've read says rebound relationships are a horrible idea. And statistically they do not work. You want to take the time the LEARN from your suffering And grow yourself and that takes time. You will be comparing your rebound relationships to the one you just got out of and that's not fair to either of you. Take some time off, learn from your suffering, take the time to grow from the loss, build on you first and foremost before taking on another. Whoring yourself out is a distraction not a fix. And leads to regret and remorse. Rebound relationships are a bad idea unless you're a codependent insecure human being.

You are so correct . i just got dumped and kicked out with my 3 yr old son . my ex said i didn't love him and didn't show it . i was trying but it was too much because he would accuse me of liking my boss and everyone else but him .he treated me like a cheater . two days after we broke up he took all my things to a storage and went back with his ex . One week after losing the man that I thought would be my life partner. We were so compatible and I thought things were going well. He ended it with me. Looking back, I wish I could change a few things and have shown him my interest more in the way he wanted (even though I was into him). It started out so strong, I don’t know what happened. He said we lost our connection and that hurts so much, because I still wanted to be with him and thought we were a good match. The heartache is horrible. Replaying everything in my head, feeling alone, and wondering about the what ifs. I know they say you will be someone else, but it took me 8 years since my first relationship to find this feeling again. Im 30 now and I see everyone else finding love around me. Through my many rejections and years of total singledom, I’ve only learned to stay fiercely independent and even when you like someone again, keep suggesting that it won’t work or you shouldn’t be together, almost to test whether they’re actually even interested. Thank you so much and God bless you in huge ways, this is like a small dose of pain reliever to my broken heart and trust me when I say that it has given me a different perspective on my situation🙏🏼 I believe that I’m worthy of an extraordinary love story and sometimes we confuse the wrong person with a great story only because we want it but reality is we shouldn’t have passed after the first date; however, we end up learning something because of that wrong person so it’s not all to waist...change hurts but we’ll definitely be better, stronger, wiser and more alive ❤️

I’m still heartbroken after 30 years. I chose to be single for the last 17 years. It helps to be single for lots of reasons. Dating me has been the very best part of my life. I have only one piece of advice….dont be afraid to find yourself and be your own best friend and learn to sit still and feel even when you can’t. The pain passes, gratitude helps.

I went through a break up in January and I told myself that I wasn't going to look his social media at all. I am not going to check if he is with someone or not. I am going to focus on myself and that's it. I still want love and all. I just don't need to feel like I need to chase it down in order to have it. One day I will fall in love one day... Just not now and that's okay.

I was a rebound woman. Be responsible and don't use another person to get over a breakup. It might help yourself but it leaves somebody else in tears and suffering.
@josephblunt29343 жыл бұрын
YES! Thank you for the part about lying under somebody else. I felt guilty about moving in with a decent woman after a divorce. But the close companionship accelerated the recovery. It is now scientifically established. Also Tasha, you did not deserve any kind of disrespect from that lowlife of an ex. Nobody does. You are really quite attractive. You should be proud of your accomplishments. Keep up the good work! 👍 Joe
@ThePsychLab3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Joseph for your comments. I had my role with my ex too but I appreciate that positivity you left here. I like how you have my back ;-) It warmed my heart. I am so glad I could relieve some guilt about lying under somebody else. This made my day! Of course, it is not for everyone and it can have its problems too like not taking the time to look at our patterns. But I wish society would not only look at the new research but also stop being so judgemental of others lives of what is making them happy or accelerate their recovery (alone or with someone.) I wish you all the best! May peace be with you. - Tasha

Not all of them fail but most do. Research shows people that go through the pain of a breakup and take time on their own have better personal growth than those that jump from one relationship to another; most end up reaching back to their ex after a while when they don't find what they're looking for in the new person.

I drove the love of my life last month because I am wild. We were supposed to moving country, I had all my things packed, I attended my surprise leaving do, my phone lost battery... he abandoned me. I sold my car and got rid of flat, I was left to an empty house with all my things in boxes. I have never felt so humiliated. He is super smart, if he loved me surely he would have really worked with me. I did though, change into a lovely happy go lucky girl, it was the off Friday night I went out and a little too drunk. I know I have a few issues, but I treated him like a king. This talk moved me and although I sat here in my dads bed as I have no home and working on my net moves, which is actually studying again after so many years and at 36, I am ready. He taught me that and that was to stop perhaps the modelling and business but work into something I really love. He did have mood swings, he did get a little boring and he used to always point at me when arguing which I hated. Maybe I dodged a bullet, maybe he did with me. Im still trying to forgive myself :(
@beansprout58593 жыл бұрын
this is very similar to what i'm going through, i feel like i drove my boyfriend away because of my childish impulses and i'm 20, i feel so broken and alone i feel like if he loved me he would've tried as well to work it out and that says a lot about how much they really cared. everyone makes mistakes in relationships and somebody will gladly love us and work through them together. so maybe one day we'll think this was actually a positive and not so much a negative ): but i completely understand you
@sjbanahan3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it’s a good thing that you see that I am 36 and it will happen. Learn from this now and learn from me too. At least at both our ages - we can spot the signs, but also to give ourselves the time now to work on ourselves also! X

22yrs together, 4 children. I was waiting for my wife to come home from work on the 23rd of December, she came home and ended our relationship. Christmas eve, I was homeless,no wife, no family, no home, no dog, all gone..... And I had no idea! Ive been spinning ever since..... Had a nervous breakdown in June, lost my job, and my 2 friends..... Its now November, I'm still living in my car, and trying to recover.

How are you doing now? Is there any end to this pain? My boyfriend of 4 years went to work last week and then just vanished. He never came home. I learned he quit his job and they claim he moved to another state. I am completely blindsided and devastated. There was no fight. There was no discussion leading up to this. We had just signed a lease together. The pain is unbearable. It creeps into my thoughts all day. It consumes me. I cannot sleep. I cannot function. I dealt with the sudden and unexpected death of my parent better than I am coping with this. Because atleast with death, there is an end. And now I have to find a roommate, a stranger to move in so I can pay the rent. I don’t know how I’m going to do this when I can hardly get out of bed I am paralyzed by sadness and fear.

I enjoyed the talk as a whole, but suggesting that getting over someone by getting under someone is good advice is actually terrible advice. I know she mentioned a study, but many other studies show that that's what serial monogamists do, and no self respecting therapist would suggest that serial monogamists are healthy. At best, they have a serious problem with spending any amount of time on their own. At worst, they have underlying emotional issues that have never been addressed. Breakups are hard, no doubt, but actual growth comes from spending some time alone to analyze the relationship, what you did wrong, what you did right, etc.

I am a male and it seems I am out of a 7 years relationship . It happened a week ago . Oh boy it hurts so so bad .. I have not given up on her and said so and suggested a joint counselling as we both agree we have behaved in way that was not right .. this is I see as a glimmer of hope and worth holding on to as to just accept it and throw in the towel surely can’t be right given so many good good moments shared .. I am 65 she is 55 . I wonder what anyone reading this has to say ? Hurting and shedding tears is I believe a way to cope with emotions - being now on my own is one heck of a truly bad feeling

What gets me in my situation is we have a kid together. We live together because she can't afford to live on her own. I let her use my car because I want to be nice. I cook, clean, get our son ready for bed, wake him up every morning to get him off to school because she's not there because she wants to hang out with friends all night at the bar and pass out at friends houses. With my car. All the while I'm unknowingly aiding her in building a bond with another man who she is now dating. I did a lot of damage myself, by no means am I innocent here but what is that? Telling me she loves me, she misses being in love etc. Man I have nearly completely destroyed myself but I'm tryn to hang on.
