Hi Hillary! It was so nice working with you in my session last night. Thank you for helping me make the connection, it was a huge release for me. This video is so helpful in relating my childhood as a type 5. I was so much like your son when I was younger. I looked more like a 7 than a 5, but most definitely by the time I hit highschool I looked more type 5, but could also look type 8 and 7 at times. I looked like an 8 when I was standing against some of the bullies at my school, and like a 7 when I was with my theater club friends. Your type 3 son sounds just like my type 3 sister.

I'm a 2w1 and I certainly did displayed a lot of these features - specifically as a younger child. 100%, my main goal at the beginning of the year was to make a good impression on the teacher! Whenever I made a mistake within the first week, I was heartbroken 🤣 I was, however, raised by a 5 and a 4 with a very strong 5 wing. This changed the way I think quite a bit. My absolute favorite question as a 7-year-old was 'why?' 😂 I remember that I even had a plastic toolbox which I would use to fix my rocking-horse on a regular basis! Great video, as always! Thx!

I was so excited to see what today's video was about. You know my family we are always thinking we can type everyone (and I'm always reminding them that there can be the same behaviors in different types and we don't know their motives - I try to get them to stick to TV and movie characters). However, this doesn't stop them from trying to figure out my grandchildren. /it was so helpful to hear that we need to look at the way they make decisions and their stance. My daughter is sure my grandson is a 5. I coulld be wrong but I see him as too bossy, stubborn and social to fet there well. And I definitely don't see him in the thinking triad. I ordered that book for my daughter hoping it will help her not try to put him in a box. Thanks for the video!

I myself am not an adult and have wondered about this because most of your videos seem directed towards adults so thankyou for this! I love the enneagram! I have been seriously conflicted about my type so knowing that my type can change right now is really helpful! I think in my younger years I was most likely a type 1. Currently I'm very perfectionistic and love talking with teachers in school and learning but at the same time I doubt my views a lot and I'm not that organized. I don't think I'm a type three though because a lot of my perfectionism comes from a place of looking "good" to others and I feel bad when I don't turn in an assignment not because of some goal that I was trying to do but because I don't want my teachers or parents to think bad of me. I'm competitive and I am into singing dancing and playing musical instruments especially in creative ways such as freestyle for dance. I have a big problem when I feel like I'm not being true to myself in conversation. I know that when I was younger my Mom would tell me to smile even if I wasn't happy and that just felt like lying to me. I hate the phrase fake it 'till yo make it. I'm not boy crazy and I can't really tell if I am an introvert or extrovert and I would like to hear your views on how a kid would show they were in the category of "one to one" subtypes. I like puzzles and strategy games. I like making things my friends will like for their birthdays. I would like to think I'm a composed person and people have called me mature throughout my life. When I'm unhealthy I definitely numb out and try to detach myself from the stress. Does anyone have any ideas on what my type might be or if I'm maybe transitioning into another type? Thanks again!

Hi Eliza. It does sound like you are between the 1 & 4....with those being connected it would make sense. I’m so happy I did a video that would help you! I’ll keep it in mind that it’s not always adults that need enneagram help that kids and teens do too! I’d watch my videos on the the 10 signs of being a 4 and a 1 and let me know what you think. Which one you most relate too.

My daughter is 13 and I had a hard time typing her until now. she's a 3. Her whole personality came though once she became a teenager. She wants to become a doctor and go to an ivy league medical school. I'm not kidding! Lol. She is super well behaved and extremely responsible. Very mature for her age.

I DEFINITELY looked like a 5 as a kid in my home. My favorite word was why, I dialed Japan when I was in timeout, because the phone was there, and I wanted to push all the buttons and hear what they sounded like. I made my parents take a phone apart. My brother and I took apart an old computer when it died, etc. But I was much more of an 8 in school. I often made friends with the kids who got outcast for whatever reason, I would point out poorly written questions on tests, let the teacher know when he/she was punishing kids too harshly, and I would do things my way if it wasn’t explicitly stated otherwise. I literally got into a screaming match with a teacher in 4th grade during recess because she was yelling at a group of boys for something they didn’t do.

I think I also helped a kid who got his desk dumped because I was done with my work.

My best guess is that I was a type 5 growing up and into high school, then as an adult had major life events and realizations which changed my perspective, attitude and behavior on certain aspects of life. Having said that, is it possible for people's types to change over time? As an example, from one day to the next I realized I don't need all the stuff I have so I became a minimalist and donated a bunch of stuff out of the blue, which later led to wanting to be organized in ALL aspects of life which continues today. 1w9

Hi Christian 👋🏼 I love it when you leave comments! It’s not possible for the type to change...but there are 9 levels of health that play a big part in this. And the arrows. So you might have been more connected to the type 4 or 7 when you were younger and then because of life events your 1 started to pay a bigger part. Also the 1 and 5 can look alike depending on situations. Thanks for sharing!

@@enneagramandcoaching ahh makes sense! I was much more reserved back then being the kid that eat lunch by himself and never spoke up. Now I'm much more assertive, yet still prefer to do my own thing most of the time.

I love your channel. I’m learning so much. So not to be critical here at all, but it just sounded like the 9 types for adults. There was no difference. I read that the type 7 can look a lot like a type 4 as a child, for example. The most helpful thing you said is how your son looked like a different number as a child. None of my kids looked like their numbers as children. I would’ve mistyped my 7 daughter as a 1, my 5 son as an 8, and my 2 son as a 7. I’m pretty new to all this, so I was hoping for more of that if it has even been studied. Like what does a type 7 look like as the oldest child as a child. But I haven’t seen that anywhere. Maybe it isn’t really out there? Do you believe gender and birth order plays into all this also?

Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I have been trying to find things to help me understand my son and I've looked up and down the internet for anything to help me out. I have some suspicions but I know some of the things he does are probably developmental and not his number.

_leans forward_ All right, Billy. It is day 3,475 since you were manufactured and it is time to determine what type you are. _hands Billy a printout with every option being a 5w4_ "Seven." _chuckles, pats Billy on the head_ Oh no, Billy. You are a 5w4, remember? It says so on this sheet. "Seven!" _shudders, kneels before Billy_ No, kiddo. You aren't a seven. 5w4. Say it with me. "SEVEN!" Who put this silly thought in your head, child? You were designed to be a 5w4, there are no exceptions! _Billy points at the box_ "Him." *SEVEN!!!!!* I didn't respond to this one because I was in an overall funk, but I can certainly see where the dangers are in typing your child. As someone who has gone through things like that in my youth, I would hate to have that happen to my child. Of course, I was manufactured with the "family unit OS" missing from my files so...
