I am a December 2023 bride, and love Jamie's channel! I got my dress online from Jenny Yoo. The first dress I ordered and tried on was the one! Loved the fabric, and was true to the size chart! We also did a black tie event, but requested dark colors on our website and when people asked. I think the biggest tip would be to not feel bad for requesting attire to create the day/theme ya'll envision, but have grace on your guests knowing there will be people who do not show up in that attire for various reasons! (Price of attire being the main one) Overall, we are happy we requested attire/colors, and were not upset with the few guests who did not show up in it. Ya'll should be focused on one another at the end of the day anyway! :)

Hi Jamie! I had my guests wear dark jewel tones (reds, greens, golds, blues, etc.) while my family and in laws wore plum and navy respectively. It was fabulous. I put this information on the invitation AND the website.

@@s.a.4358 yeah, it was more so for an aesthetic and wanting everyone in complimentary colors rather than "you must wear this color". I figured all would have something that matched without having to purchase an outfit. Everyone looked coordinated in pictures and nothing clashed.

I bought my dress for $100 from JJ's House. Admittedly, the booby cup was askew, which I fixed, and the skirt was a little on the sheer side but not too much. But I loved it. Was a backyard wedding and ended up changing into a different dress for the reception anyway.

I had a great experience with a Azazie. And I’m a size 18W. But I am one of those persons that does not need a dress to be marketed to me as a ‘wedding dress’, to choose it as a wedding dress. I’m looking for a certain cut, detail and quality. If I find that in a dress that’s labeled in a different category - that doesn’t matter to me. As long as it’s a high-quality dress. I ordered a size up from Azazie because I want to err on the side of caution. And then I got a local tailor to do alterations. In the end it cost me about $250. Just putting that out there. But I totally respect the desire of others that go about choosing their wedding dress differently.

My daughter went with Kennedy Blue for bridesmaids. We got a discount and it worked out well. They even sent us sample dresses of our favorite styles and that helped a lot!

I personally hate demanding guests to wear specific colours (totally fine if it's optional!). Yes, it looks pretty on photos. But how rude is it to let your guests pay to be a kind of wedding decoration?! I would never in my wildest dreams do this! It's something else to ask for festive clothes because this influences the atmosphere a lot and you have to own some piece of formal wear anyway. But it's already expensive to be a wedding guest and then asking to buy new clothes on top of that? Very wasteful, too - I don't want to have a closet full of once-worn stuff (I can't borrow or rent something because I'm 5' and wear cup G, so my figure issues are not even weight-related, I cannot change them).

Many of these online shoppers offer at home try on. Yes Azazie, a few others like JJ's House, Revelry and yes Kennedy Blue; but not Birdy Grey 🤔. JJs House/ Azazie/Kennedy Blue sell brides dresses. Revelry dresses cost more then the others, so if your planning on wearing more affordable dresses (bridesmaids) check the others out. FYI - although some offer a decent amount of color options, they don't have many primary or secondary colors. Something to keep in mind, depending on your color palette (if you already decided on one).

That’s what I wanna do since black will be one of our colors. Not so I as a the bride stand out but because I want to look out at my favorite people looking elegant and aesthetic. Of course I’d allow accents though. Black is just so gorgeous. It’s all I wear!

In our invite, we included a Dress Code Card so guests could take it shopping with them ❤ If they don't wear a color from that card it is what it is lol

Azazie Bridal has try on samples. We ordered a bunch and made it a party at home. My dress that I love ended up being less than $500

It really depends on your guests. I remember I was invited to a wedding on the other side of the country. The invitation asked guests not to wear : white (of course that's to be expected), red (again reasonable), black, navy (including suits..), gold, green, orange, and pink. We had to buy a new dress for myself as my go to colours is navy and green, a new suit for my husband - he only had navy and black, suits were required. This along with paying to fly across the country, accommodation and a wedding gift, not to mention on the ground travel. Church and reception were 45 minutes apart with no public transport. Plus a pet sitter. I asked my friend who was getting married if it's okay if we sent them 1500 as a present instead of attending they said no. It was a very expensive and stressful weekend.

That’s a lot of restrictions. I can see saying no white obviously and say maybe the other colors of the wedding like burgundy and champagne or something like that. But to say no navy, green, red, and that whole host of other colors it makes it difficult. Like you were left with gray and yellow and purple? Not a fan of that and not a fan of how the bride was rude to you when you offered a very generous gift. Cause I get it. Pet sitting, flights, hotels and new clothes and Ubers or taxis sounds expensive and unkind to the guests.

I want to give everyone a color palette and dress code. I think the pictures would look better. It’s mostly because I’ve attended and seen pictures on Facebook of some very trashy outfits. My cousin wore a purple zip-up hoodie, black exercise shorts, and flip-flops to her brother’s wedding. My aunt wore a black bra under a white T-shirt with jean shorts for my second cousin’s wedding. That’s a big no, thank you. My cousin’s best man wore a gorilla costume. Talk about distracting. I want light neutrals like peach, tan, beige, khaki, maybe gray… I want women in long dresses and men in suits. I want it to look very cohesive. I don’t want Grandpa wearing American flag suspenders and a baseball hat. I want my sister to cover her tattoos. No tennis shoes. Look nice, dammit.

Tbh I think the issue might be your family, not wearing certain colours. I would make it clear what the dress code is - no shorts, no bras on show, no gorillas! - but not give a colour palette. Not everyone looks good in light neutrals. It also seems extremely different from your family’s usual style, so I think you need to be realistic or nobody will follow the dress code. Be prepared however that some people will still show up in clothes you do not like.

Sounds like your family needed to be told to leave and educate themselves on how to properly dress up for a wedding. I’m going old school and saying when I was dragged to church back when I was little you dressed up for church even for a regular Sunday. Now you can’t even tell people to put on “their Sunday best”. Oh well.
