Y'know, I ain't gonna lie, I am applying for the Engineer Officer trade right now and my reason is the exact same as the guy's in the video. I want to give to my country. But I was so happy when I found out that he wasn't born in Canada and was still serving in the military. It makes me relieved to see that there are others like me who, even if they weren't born here, want to serve and protect our country. Now all I'm worried about is whether or not there will be a problem with racism and stuff in the CAF.

being the centerpiece is not in itself a role; just a strategic requirenment. the role is to kill so to not be killed.

War has always been an instrument of politics, and to achieve those political goals you need to gain ground in most situations. The objective of the infantry is to gain, dominate, and to control grounds. Killing is just a means which may or may not be necessary, not the end. All officers have to study the art of war, and the art of war says exactly that the superior general is one who could achieve higher military and political objectives without fighting. The end game of all infantry officers is to master at the strategic level. Killing is just tactical stuff.

@@davidoftheforest you don’t know me so it’s not your fault but I’m not going to join now because 1. I’m not physically ready for the army, and 3. I don’t have a car so going to the armoury would be a hassle and expensive in the long run if I choose to take public transit. they might be the first on the ground but they barely see any combat. instead, they keep at a safe distance from where they direct/order non commissioned soldiers what to do and where (least in degree of importance is why). seargents and master warrant officers are the ones usually to directly lead the soldiers.

the canadian army is no longer viewed with esteem despite all them gains in the past. after serving, the veterans are treated with least of respect and care from society. and if sadly you get injured, then you suffer and pain in agony usually alone and abandoned by the loved ones and by the government as well.
