Thank you so very much for sharing this video with us but most of all thank you for treating the fish with respect and then releasing it back into the water. With so much fish available these days is it that important to take out of these lakes such amazing wildlife. Some of these fish have been around before most of the people that fish them. One word, respect it's not hard to do or say or even show.

@britfether6 жыл бұрын
I follow you a lot on the Tele and I have been waiting for years for you to tangle with a Muskellunge. So you finally did and under the moat typical conditions. Muskies always seem to appear when you least expect it, which adds to their legendary "hard to catch" reputations. Only when you are totally ready for them with the right tackle and methods, do you not see them come to net ever. It always seems that when your fishing for bass or perch, all of a sudden your rod dips and you are hooked to a Muskie, then the line breaks. I have caught a number of Muskies in the St. Lawrence River near Alexandria Bay. I was brought up there and my dad was a hunting and fishing guide there before the war. I want to compliment you on your ability to net that fish. It is so hard to be patient and play the fish and your so lucky that it did not break of. 90% of the time, Muskies know when they have caught YOU and will just sit on the bottom knowing you can't move them and sulk or quickly go down and run around a weed bed and break you of that way. So there was some luck looking over you as well. But on the whole, if you want to catch a Muskie, you have to be both patient and lucky. The world record Muskie came from my area of the St. Lawrence. Caught by Arthur Lawton back in the 60's, and it still stands at 69lbs. and + a few ounces. It was not caught with 6lb. mono either. So your fish was the catch of a lifetime. Congrads my friend. By the way, have you ever watched Gaddabout Gaddis, The Flying Fisherman on old 50's shows? He had an old saying that you seem to have picked up on every show. He used to say, "if ya want to catch fish, ya have ta talk to the natives." You'd love him.

Understanding how to set the drag is one thing. Most fish of varying sizes can be caught on low pound test line. The impressive part here is that a Muskie of this size didn’t take the lure or bait any bit past the hook. Had it done that the line would have broken within seconds. Beyond that, when the fish jumps and flails in the water while bringing it in, the chances the line will clip one of those teeth is great; especially since having low pound line means you’ll be fighting the fish for a longer period of time. Call it luck, call it skill, either way this is awesome 👏🏼 and deserves credit. Outstanding catch Jeremy Wade 🙌🏼

That’s awesome. I have a memorable catch myself, but not a Muskie.. a Northern. I was 12yrs old, my friend and I would go down to this old boating dock on Lake Superior. It really wasn’t much of a dock anymore it was just a bunch of pylons sticking out of the water, and it being Lake Superior you could see so clearly.. the weeds were really high, and it was a perfect spot where northerns would hang out. Our very first day fishing there (nobody ever fished here before) my buddy and I brought our poles down. We put up 4 poles and one of the poles was just some shitty gas station pole with 6pound test-line and no steel liter at the end of the line just the hook.. just how Jeremy’s was. About 20mins later that pole hooked a big ole northern.. such an awesome fight! Not sure how my line didn’t break or my pole break in half.. but the fishing gods were definitely on my side that day. Great memory. The fish ended up being 47in 25pounds on an empty stomach.

Small education for you---- I've fished for large pike and musky for many yr.s--- my system which works btw. is to bring no net with me--- and remove the hook in the water with the fish pressed up against the side of the boat or holding him stable from the back with the right hand while removing hook with left--- this works very well, the fish calms right down and doesn't thrash at all- try it, this really is the best and most humane way to deal with really big fish

When I saw your episode it rained a lot. When you fish for muskie dont try to fish just after the rain because of cold fronts. Unless it's a storm, fishing in the rain is actually quite effective, especially for muskie. If you do fish for muskie after a cold front, try something small.

The idea of a few following behind is very clever and I'm sure it happens Jeremy, but tbh, your initial idea of a cave system underwater is very likely the case, that terrain is perfect for a plethora of systems below (not sure if it's documented, but I would bet on it tbh), and many serpents I believe are due to this, I believe there are multiple serpent like creatures that use these cave systems, but like the giant octopuses that can squish down and go through the tightest of tunnels to get around. I think you provide a great mainstream answer, but I do believe that much more interesting creatures do indeed exist and use these systems to hide, it's also I believe, why much of the time the legends include rock structures, which likely involve entrances do these systems. Love you either way tho brother, and great work!

I honestly think this is fake. I'm from Minnesota and everyone catches musky here all the time, really not that hard, but they do put up a fight. I honestly don't see how it's possible to catch that beast on 6 pound test...

With very loose drag the line won't break.
