Disabled and in pain that is made worse in damp or rain and heat. Hot summer night and it poured. I sat with my daughter in law on a chair in a parking lot of a sports bar. Huge outdoor screen. Inside had half screens for a big game that night and other half the concert but it was packed so we rode it out in the rain. When he came back and did that encore every patron and staff member was bawling and it went on and on. His adrenaline pushing him to give that f'ing phenomenal show in the final days of his life was breath taking. When he needed help but then just kept on going I was legit weeping. Hands down will never beat that musical experience. How the world doesn't know and love him and The Hip I will never understand. Gonna blast some Hip this summer onto the Great Lake on Manitoulin Island around a fire and among the stars and belt one out for Gord. I'm waiting for the movie of his life. I mean how can that NOT happen?

All jokes aside, as an American, that actually *is* one area in which Canada doesn't get nearly enough credit. For such a relatively small country population-wise, Canada has made an outsized contribution to military victories that Americans and Brits usually get more credit for. Kind of like Australia. ...I blaim the Brits, of course. Seriously, I can't believe you guys still have the Queen.
@kayecastleman63533 жыл бұрын
And thank YOU... for the thousands of tulip bulbs that continue to arrive every year as a gift from your government and royal family. Canada harboured the Dutch royal family (except for Queen Wilhelmina, who remained in the UK) for the duration of the war. Princess Margriet was even born here!

@kayecastleman63533 жыл бұрын
@@bywd I recall reading somewhere that they couldn't actually proclaim the hospital to be Dutch soil, since that would make all other babies born that day Dutch, but they got around it some other way. Perhaps they made it international soil, like being born at sea? Anyway, so nice to know that those memories are still alive in our cultures. My great grandfather came to Canada from The Hague. My dad served in the North Atlantic with the British Navy during WWII (Canada hardly had a navy), and he's the one who first told me of that history. There's a wonderful, grainy old YT clip of a little Dutch (or Belgian?) boy in a Highland uniform, saluting a marching contingent of Canadian soldiers as they parade down the street for a memorial service. I watch it every November 11th, and it always brings tears to my eyes. A testament to mutual respect.

I love Canadian stuff. Musically The Hip is so underrated outside of Canada. I first started listening to them back in 2001 on the recommendation of an online friend from Edmonton and I love the band. When their last show was streaming I managed to wake up in time to catch the last couple of songs on my laptop and it was so special. Along with the millions of Canadians crying as they said goodbye to Gord, there was one Indian sitting in his bedroom with his headsets on and tears down his face as the end notes of Ahead By a Century was being played. Thank you Gord! P.S- I love Nickleback as well so no need to be sorry for them Canada. But yeah Beiber sucks.

As an American, I'm glad to have you as neighbors. I've only been to Canada once when I was a small child, so I don't remember it. Once when I was driving in northern Minnesota I came real close to hitting a moose. I've hit three deer with my cars and it didn't turn out well for the cars, I can't imagine what the moose would have done. Thankfully you guys live in the city and don't have to dodge moose. There are many other things that are Canadian that I like. But I don't like the Vancouver Canucks, thankfully the Sedin twins are retired. Sorry for rambling. Cheers Canada.

I actually wonder which population is larger: the entire country of Canada, or the hockey-loving population of the northern US states? The few contacts I have from Minnesota are very much interested, I know that for sure. Either way, it's better to lose it to y'all than let the Russians have it. Losing to Canada in sports is like losing to your little brother. You act embarrassed, but there's few people you'd rather lose to.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...WHOA! Peanutbutter? No, sir! I'm gonna have to look this up. ... First off, as far as inventing the idea of grinding up peanuts into various consistencies, that's been going on in South America for centuries. So there's no way to say who the first person was who actually made a creamy substance out of peanuts. That said, when it comes to the commercial product, from what I can tell, a Canadian recieved a US patent for a "peanut candy paste" intended as a flavoring ingredient that had the consistency of lard, but never actually sold any commercially. Then Kellogg (USA) patented peanut butter and used and marketed it energetically leading to the widespread popularity of the product. So yes, I'm still claiming peanut butter for the US! 🎆🇺🇸🥜🇺🇸🎆 Because, you know, you've got to fight for the important things.
