Wow didnt expect to hear the Principle of Corals music from Sunless Seas to pop up in a Souslborne video!! (44:28) Great taste, Sunless Sea and the sequel Skies are stellar games. Alos totally agree with your bottom placements- at least frigid outskirts is cool in the way thats its unique and memorable. Largely agreed with your list, buti disagree with a couple spots like the lectrue building below belfry Sol. Lecture building has great atmosphere, and plenty of neat encounters and discoveries while Belfry Sol is like a nothing pancake with a sprinkle from the rare enemy. Forbidden Lands over Mibu and others seems wild tho its literally a straight path with copy paste eneimes.

Yeah, I like putting the occasional Sunless track in my vids; the Principle of Coral track is one of my all-time favs, and Sunless Sea is literally my favorite game of all time, ever more so than the Souls games!

​@@candletype1a447Awesome! That's super valid, SS is probably my fourth favorite game only behind Hollow Knight, Bloodborne, and La Mulana 1+2. There's something special about sailing around the unterzee. Nothing quite like it. I'd recommend book of Hours, House of Many Doors, and the Fallen London browser game if you're interested in similar stuff. (Although FL can is an acquired taste, some of the stories are up there with the best of Seas). Loved your reviews of the Sunless Series too :)

I agree about the DS2 birds. Every time I have to deal with them, I actively go out of my way to shut down my speakers or disconnect my headphones. However, I like the demons in DS1 being bosses at first, and then becoming mobs. Gives a sense of scale for your character's growth.

The american english accent was so cool -- I do that with my british and aussie accents. Where, I have certain words that I feel are confident imitations, but then there's a gap where you're clearly just winging it. It really is a thought I've had my whole life, watching British actors always PERFECTLY nail our American accents, I thought there was no earthly way you all had total command over our idiosyncratic speaking. So having the chance to finally hear a true, native, and kinda poor imitation is actually really interesting just for the thought experiment. Love the content, happy to see the growth, Candle!

Reaching Ash Lake the first time was a magical experience. The way it’s hidden, the music (!), the otherworldly feel to it. But as you said, there’s sadly not really much to it. Speaking of the hydra, the first time I ever saw it in Darkroot Basin I noped right the f out of there. It looks so intimidating, but actually fighting it is just frustrating and all that dread is gone.

On a personal note, I totally agree with most of those bottom DS2 picks, though I would definitely put Lost Isalith or Tomb of the Giants below Brightstone Cave Tseldora. I actually masochistically enjoy the spiders! Plus, the torch mechanic works really well here and makes traversing the area a lot easier. But nothing, I mean NOTHING will make me enjoy copy pasted dinosaur asses or those goddamn skeleton wolf bear dog things from Tomb of the Giants!

I just finished DS2 Scholar for the 1st time, and yeah...Memory of the Old Iron King probably belongs down here. My mage build was a bad match against Alonne, so the only way I got through the level was to just replay it over and over again, killing all the enemies so they stopped respawning and I could get to the fight with my health stash and summons intact. I tried Cave of the Dead *once*, and after my party got wiped easily in the boss fight, I basically said "fuck that shit" and moved on. Unfortunately, it's far from the only DS2 boss run I had to do that with...*cough*SmelterDemonHeidesTowerDragon*cough*

Fun fact: The Skull Lantern in DS1 is a guaranteed drop if you kill every necromancer. So you'll never have a run where you don't get it. I don't love tomb of the giants either but figured I'd be annoying about that fact

Lantern is also located in Tomb of the Giants in the pit where Patches kicks you so you don't even have to kill all the necromancers although you have to reach him in the dark this way

The teleporting twin greatsword banished knight in Castle Sol is one of the enemies I am convinced nobody play tested before shipping that game. That infinite stunlock combo is enough to take down a 60 vig character. Ridiculous. Good boss though!

You get a like and a sub from me for putting Memory of the Old King in bottom place alone. The other coop DS2 levels are very poor but still have some (minimal) new assets whether it is enemies or wall textures to give then some worth. Memory on the other hand has nothing of value and should never have been included. It is awful both in visuals and in layout exactly as you say, with enemies you are already very fed up of beating from the main game. Good work sir! I can now forgive you for putting Bed of Chaos in bottom boss place like everyone else does. I weirdly always enjoy that encounter.

I'm surprised people supported the Subterranean Shunning Grounds in Elden Ring. When I play through Elden Ring that is the area I least look forward to. Even the various catacombs and hero graves are less annoying. I even prefer the Consecrated Snowfield. I wonder if it's because the area is optional, so people aren't taking into account the imps, the lobsters, the s**t slugs, the revenants, etc., that you encounter if you try to do the whole thing. They did it once, never went back, and now remember it fondly. The level design is quite clever, I'll give it that, I just don't look forward to trying to traverse it.

I already know Harvest Valley/Earthen Peak is going to be shat on but let's be honest-of all the poison swamps in all From games, Earthen Peak is by far the shortest and least irritating because of it. Blighttown, Nightmare Frontier, Caelid, and Lake of Rot are all awful and Farron Keep is even worse than those. Looking forward to 3+ hours of listening to an awesome Scotsman😊 Ummm, but after finishing, wth? The Great Hollow is just under Tomb of the Giants and is one of the worst levels in all games. Platforming with crappy controls? Check. Random falls to your death from bad level geometry? Check. The single worst enemies in the entire game in huge numbers? Check. Seriously, how can an area that requires tons of platforming, death, trial and error, and the DS1 curse status above so many others? Ugh. Consecrated Snowfields and Mountaintop of The Giants are also absolute F tier levels and should easily rank in the bottom rungs.
