Your videos are so beautifully edited. Some KZbinrs will talk all the way through long repetitious tasks, and make a 40 minute video out of something that could have been demonstrated in 10. (Do we need to see someone peeling the skins off of 60 individual tomatoes? LOL) You show just enough to teach the viewer how to do the task and then-- cut! On to the next scene. SO considerate of your subscribers! And SO much info packed into a tight, organized final product. You were born to do this.

When my Grandmother died there was a lot of arguing over who got what. Oddly enough, no one wanted all her canning stuff, including about 200 jars. I snapped them up and guess who's filling them all up this year? I am so thankful for this. I would never been in the position to buy them as I am low income also. The garden is doing well and I am confident that I will have them filled in the next month. I've made good progress so far. I'm older too. I know everyone is telling me to be careful with old jars. So far so good.

There's nothing wrong with old jars as long as there are no bubbles or cracks. The ring should be fine, too. You did not say if you got old lids. If you did, I would throw those away. There are some really bad stories about the use of old lids and the seal melting and running down into the food. Congratulations! It's a great legacy to get ahold of.

You will think of her every time you use the jars now and she is smiling upon you from above. Likely your Grandmother knew full well how to treat her precious jars. My jars are well over twenty years old, maybe even 30. I Just inspect them. Never had an issue. Kudos to you for being so smart. I got all my moms jars recently and what I couldn’t use I put on the curb knowing full well her neighbors would put them to good use. She lives in a very small rural town and these products are hard to come by. My garden did so well and now I pressure can so I could have used those jars after all. She just found some more jars so I am keeping all of those and any others she finds! 😉

I love clear gel. Why I love it is, when I make a pie and cut into it I like all of the filling to stay together when its cut and the filling not to run all over the plate. I can cut into my pie and it hold together. I use it with chicken soup that I can when I heat it up and make a pot pie with it. Good stuff. Looks good and tastes good too. Your pie filling looks great. Well done.

PLEASE NOTE: While you can find inexpensive jars at the dollar store, it is very important to still use good lids. I would not can any food with the lids that come from China. Some time ago, I found some canning lids at a deeply discounted price (47 cents per box), so I bought all the store had; they were either Ball or Kerr, and I don't remember now. I canned an entire year's worth of fruits, veggies, pickles, meats, etc. They sealed beautifully, so I put the jars in my pantry. Just weeks later, I started finding that my jars were losing their seals. Upon closer inspection, I found that the lids were rusting from the inside out. I ended up losing everything I had canned that entire year. They were counterfeit lids!!! Don't trust the lids. Keep your food and your family safe. Toss the lids.
@AcornHillHomestead
@AcornHillHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
This must be why many of my tomato goods have tiny rust spots on the undersides when I pop them open. These are full jars that have been sitting over a year. Likely this is the REAL reason the instructions are saying 18 mos for the storage life and not the sealing materials. I also used Orchard Road canning lids. I believe Lindas Pantry also has used these. While they are fine for the water bath jobs, they are a fail for pressure canning.mmTHEY BUCKLED UNDER THE RINGS IN THE CANNER TERRIBLY. Interesting how we used to keep the canned products for even past five years and now barely 18 mos.
@719mystee
@719mystee Жыл бұрын
I have read an article that yes many are conterfeit,, that if they don't have the trademark symbol on them, they are not the real thing, also I have seen where many are saying the genuine article for them are thinner than they were or at least the seal is definitely not as it was just a few years back. I am using another brand these days..

Tessie - I love blueberry pie and your filling looks great. Just checked on Amazon and a 6 pound bag of Clearjel sells for $39.89 with a 1-year shelf life. Maybe people should buy in a collective and share equally. Also checked my WM in SW FL and Ball canning jars, quart size, are still selling by the case of 12 for $11.47. Of course, it's not growing season here either - that doesn't happen until Oct - April. Will have to check then.

I've seen jars in the Dollar Tree. I thought they were for crafting. And they sold for one dollar each! For PINTS! I guess if folks don't have any jars stashed away, it's a good thing for them.

Thanks so much! I need just a couple jars and they're almost $6 at this present time. I'm going back to dollar tree today and they did have lids that were ball Mason brand so I'm gonna see where they were manufactured and let's keep our fingers crossed I can make something delightful this weekend! Thanks again for the video!
