For Panasonic's Lumix GH5 now almost 4 year old, 1/4 sensor size of the Canon R5 it's more than good enough for a general B camera! Most of all as you said... RELIABLE!! With the Cannon R5 costing just under $4,000.00 and a GH5 is under $1400 - includes an extra battery, 64GB card, & camera bag! For the same money to purchase 1 - Canon R5 body, you can purchase a complete GH5 System! This is what you could buy: the Lumix GH5 camera + 1 - Panasonic 1 - 12-35mm f2.8 IOS + 1 - 35-100mm 2.8 IOS + 1 - 100-300 f4.5 IOS, and 1 - XLR microphone adapter for less :) I something someone should consider that's getting into video + photography on a budget!

Great point, Richard. And as long as you don't have to shoot in low light conditions, the image from the GH5 with VLog is still beautiful

Thanks for the comparison. Somehow I still haven't found anything that produces files as nice as my GH5... and I currently own the A7S III (not to mention the Nikon Z6 as well). I WANT to find a camera with better low light footage and good autofocus that can give me images as nice as the GH5, but I'm still looking. Tempted to try the R5.

Hey David, I love my GH5, too! I would love to hear how the GH5 compares to the A7s3. You might want to check out the Panasonic S1H. It is like a full frame GH5 with way better low light ability. It's a great camera, whose only setback is that it's autofocus can't compete with the Sony or Canon. I was really tempted to get one versus the R5, but ultimately, the autofocus of the R5 proved to be the dealbreaker. I'm actually really hoping Panasonic announces a S2H with better autofocus, because that would be my dream mirrorless video platform.

Thanks for the comparison, I'll still keep my GH5. I wish you had your video in 4k.

I still use my GH5 all the time (used it on a shoot yesterday, as a matter of fact). It's a tank that still delivers great images and never lets me down. Sorry about the 1080, I did that video before I started outputting everything in 4K. Thanks for the comment and I hope you have a great day!

GH5 native ISO is 400 where It has most of the dynamic range. I think that canon R5 has also most of the dynamic range at iso 400. It is actually very interesting to see that the old GH5 is keeping up with R5. I own GH5 and my next cam will be pocket 6k for shure. NICE TEST!

Thanks much! I personally think the GH5 holds up splendidly, as long as you're not in low light, and I still prefer it over the R5 if I'm doing any slomo work. You can't go wrong with the Pocket 6K, I've gotten the chance to shoot with it and the footage is beautiful. Just make sure you get a whole lot of batteries.

This is amazing! I am seriously looking at buying the Canon eos R5c. But if I did, I wanted to be able to use my beloved GH5s as b-cam. Loved this comparison!! When (if! LOL) the GH6 comes out, it would be great if you could do a comparison of the R5c and the GH6. But easy for me to say, I wouldn't have to try to get my hands on both. LOL Anyway, thanks.

I'm gonna tell my personal experience (well, at least a very short version of it...). My first contact with Canon was with an EOS 5000 back in the 80's. Since then I had a lot of other Canon's cameras (I'm a retired History teacher and Photography is nothing but a very expensive hobby :D ). The last one was a 5D Mark IV. My first contact with Panasonic was with a GH4 I bought at Fairfax Ave in LA, back in 2015 in my first adventure outside the boundaries of my own country. I sold back in 2018 just to by the GH5 here in Brasilia. So, till last week I had a 5D Mark IV (around 1300 clicks) and a GH5 (around 1200 clicks). Last week I sold them just to buy, finally, MY CANON EOS R5!!! Can you imagine my happiness??? ❤

I love my GH5 but HATE the menu system. I switched from Canon (20 years) to GH5 and may get the R5 and keep the GH5...or sell it...who knows.

I love my GH5 and have been very glad I kept it. I still find myself using it for various things at least once a month. The quality still holds up great, even after all these years. Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

Deficiency in Noise performance is something GH5 cannot overcome, but Deficiency in AF performance is something Panasonic fails.

I love look canon !!! File R5 much more workable and davinci ...I wasted a lot of time making adjustments that I made in a moment with the r5 (same shooting conditions)
