Agreed, I just realized how much Ive been planning my Tuesday YT watching around these. Good looking out guys! Watching you meticulously reevaluate these films corrects the so called record and rep the MCU has been getting by virtue of there being SO many films in such a short period of time. People don't give the entire MCU enough credit for how much its changed entertainment and storytelling in general (positive & negative).

With the plane scene, I had the impression that the space stone powered the plane, and with it falling into the ocean, it had no power which is why Steve had to crash it into the ice rather than it losing power and eventually crashing down and possibly killing people.

"This is why you were chosen. Because the strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows... compassion." I love this film. Like a cartoon serial brought to life. Such an underrated MCU film, with a super underrated score. Evans is perfect as Cap. My only gripe is that it wasn't as grounded as it should've been. Laser guns and all that bs should've been thrown out the window. And the choice to make Bucky more like a brother rather than a kid sidekick is brilliant.
@alexanderchilton911
@alexanderchilton911 6 жыл бұрын
Alex Love The whole "laser shit" / pseudo science villain part is unfortunely like 1/5 of the movie. It sucks because the movie would be very solid without it. Stil, it is a great stepping stone for Cap's future movies.

Andy is completely right, they should do this mathematically. Everyone ranks all the movies each week for themselves, and then you average the rankings for the movies to get your final ranking. You guys don't all agree so when you do your rankings you aren't weighting each individual's opinions accurately.

Perhaps it’s too avoid what would seem to be a stale method...but having Greg recall the plot is a lot more entertaining. Nothing against Andy though. Much love. But Greg’s oddball character really makes the plot reading a lot of fun. Otherwise it is just a bunch of recollecting and it’s almost frustrating. Just my opinion

Hi guys, I have not so many things to add to the discussion: - The fact that Joe Johnston basically made an Iron Man movie based in the late 1930s / early 1940s back in the 90s (i.e. The Rocketeer) which would basically land him into the director's chair of this movie is such vital piece of trivia that was painfully missing in this review. - Cameos: Richard Armitage who would later be one of the Hobbits in The Hobbit trilogy, Jenna Coleman a.k.a. Clara Oswald from Doctor Who (in general: lots and lots of British actors (I am looking at you, Natalie Dormer and David Bradley), this has to do with the fact that the main filming area was London's Pinewood Studios) - In-Universe-Trivia: As they don't have that many appearances any more: Hayley Atwell got her own 2-season TV show named Marvel's Agent Carter, Toby Jones appeared in the final episode of season 1, and the Howling Commandoes, as well as Agent Carter herself had 2-3 guest appearances in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., so they actors came back ... but outside the movie part of the MCU. Also: Dominic Cooper has a substantial role in the Agent Carter series that would also give us the real-life equivalent for Jarvis, before he would become Tony Stark's Go-To-AI. - Christopher Marcus & Stephen McFeely wrote this movie, as well as Captain America sequels, as well as the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor - The Dark Kingdom. They also created the Agent Carter series. - From a technical point of view, I remember watching this movie shortly before watching Winter Soldier and I felt that the 3D was significantly better in Winter Soldier compared to this one (which was I think the second 3D Marvel movie, Thor being the first one), all Marvel movies from then on have been 2D-to-3D converted, while Joe Johnston was trying out native 3D rigs for this one and he was reported to being annoyed with camera calibration issues... I think this was one of those decisions that would a few years later get me out of a job in the 3D camera business... - Knowing what comes after this movie, I remember the rumor mill before Winter Soldier where I was kinda thinking Red Skull would have possessed the mind of Robert Redfords character... but... well... this wasn't true, and I think Hugo Weaving made also statements of not wanting to come back as Red Skull, so he probably floats through some space vortex until he is needed again. - The actual father of Captain America Joe Simon was able to see the movie, half a year before he died at the age of 98 :-( - From an international stand-point it's quite interesting to see that the villains of the movie were clearly separated from the real world villains of WWII. This may be due to the fact that the America part within the title was feared to be not helping for international box offices (for example: In Germany, the two sequels were being marketed as The First Avenger: Winter Soldier and The First Avenger: Civil War). It's making such a difference when the basic premise of the movie changes from "Superhero is fighting German Nazis" to "Superhero is fighting Hydra, a super-duper deep shadow science division". - Fun Fact: Captain America brought me to reading comics back in the later 00-years. Before I read Civil War, I always thought of the name Captain America as this super-duper-patriotic guy ... until I saw what kind of moral choices he does in Civil War and kinda fell in love with the character since then. He's not just a Captain for America, he's the Captain for all of us! (shoutout to the call-back in Civil War to the "I can do this all day" scenes in this first movie). Dammit... this comment went waaaay too long than I first expected... ok... should stop here and I am looking forward to next weeks Phase One-ender... The Fucking Avengers! (No, they are not fucking, I mean... you know what I mean :-) )

Nick was great at pointing out the character moments and themes during Andy's recap of the movie. This is still one of my favourite marvel movies. Built Steve up as a character perfectly and had great moments like the grenade scene. TBH, when I first saw it I thought it was average but I think this is one movie that has just become even better over time thanks to its sequels and retrospective character development with carter, bucky and cap.

Calum Chrystal I’m pretty sure none of them really like the marvel shows for the most part but I totally agree they should watch Agents of Shield as it’s amazing and I’m sure they’d like it. Unfortunately I think they’d stop and give up after 5 episodes tho.

Jeremy H To be fair I wouldn't blame them, it really doesn't pick up steam until the Winter Soldier twist, but from then on I think it's pretty great. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they discussed some of the TV eventually as they have already gone into the One Shots in an episode, it would probably be very brief though.
@jabzt
@jabzt 6 жыл бұрын
Calum Chrystal Calum Chrystal yeah that's when it definitely gets better. But being able to binge it and knowing how it just keeps improving is a good reason to get through it imo but unfortunately a lot of people don't give it a shot.
@Calum_Chrystal
@Calum_Chrystal 6 жыл бұрын
Jeremy H I genuinely think it's better than something like Iron Fist as I just care about the characters so much, I'd actually say it's up there with the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, even though it's obviously not as expensive or well produced.
@jabzt
@jabzt 6 жыл бұрын
Calum Chrystal oh yeah it’s easily up there but I disagree in saying it’s not as well produced. When u look at all the shows they aren’t that demanding and when they are, like in the Defenders, having the building come down it looks rough. Shield is constantly using special effects across 22 episode seasons and it looks great so it’s shows it has a higher budget unless u were just talking about season 1. But yeah I still can’t think of a better 22 episode season show due to it having multiple story arcs as opposed to trying to stretch one story out for that time. That allows It to be comparable to the daredevil, punisher, and Jessica jones as the best or even better depending on your tastes.

Great stuff! Makes me want to go back and watch them all too. To Andy's point, there should definitely be a mathematical order to the final ranking. If Andy thinks Captain America should be higher than Hulk but lower than Thor, how is he even suppose to vote?What are they gonna do when there are 10 movies on the list and nobody agrees 100% with it? How do you fit a new movie in? They should all have their individual list and the final list should be an average.

Anyone else notice the inconsistencies with Howard Stark's age? In Civil War, we saw him get killed in the year 1991, a full *50 years* after The First Avenger. Assuming he was in his 20's or 30's here, that means that in Civl War he would've been in his 70's or 80's, yet John Slattery didn't look a day over 50. Also, I'd imagine Tony Stark is 45-50 years old, so he would've been born in the mid to late 60's. Yet Howard Stark is already 20 or 30 years old in The First Avenger, so was he like 50 when he finally had a kid?

I would like to nominate HYDRA as a villain. There is no one individual in control, just the organization. The organization is in 4 MCU (1st two Cap movies, Ant Man, Ultron) films and is a major part (and even creepier) in Agents of SHIELD.

The ending isn't bad, you just don't get it. He went down with the plane cause he is willing to do anything to stop the plane, they set this up in the begining when they throw a granade in the military base and he jumps on it so he would die to save others and he does the same at the end. He jumps on the granade and goes down with the ship like a hero
