Side by sides are a lot of fun, but when it comes to serious off-roading, you have to go with some kind of 4x4! glad you choose something out of the ordinary Jeep or Bronco! There are so many alternatives, especially when choosing an older model with availably used parts.

What about using the whole Jeep 722.6 transmission with the bellhousing from the ML? I used a S55 transmission for my I6 benz build by swapping the bellhousing. That way the jeep transfer cases will bolt on and it'll be a matter of driveshaft and mount updates. You could even use the AMG internals on the Jeep trans (more clutch packs). The transmission controller will still see it as the same transmission, the sticky part will be how to trick the ML into not worrying about the missing transfer case. You could also use a 2wd 722.6 and put a atlas or other divorced tcase behind it for maximum worry free thrashing.

Jeep JK transfer case has been done and shown to work. The testing I’ve seen though has shown to destroy the front diff as the next weakest link. Maybe just using a v6 model is the best bet lol. Good luck!

Bad ideas sometime lead to genius solutions! I use to do this with my buddies in college ... my buddy Bill had a Dodge Neon which we had apart half a dozen time and put back together at past midnight in a NE city. I am always shocked that a cop didn't stop 2 white kids and 2 Asian kids taking apart a car in the middle of a residential street, but those are the memories and stories I still tell to this day.

Love it. Currently building my 04 escalade winter beater/mild off roader for the 3rd and final time. Working on getting a high/low transfercase in it to go from AWD to 4wd. I was originally planning on putting a 4l80e in place of the 4l65e but I'm noticing guys are having success in getting the 6l80/90s to work. I would absolutely love to bring this old girl up to the modern day with a 6 speed. I had to cut my bilstein 8100s off. NE ohio winters really married that lock nut to the shock. They were starting to look a little crusty anyway. I wrapped the new 8100s with PPF so we'll see how it holds up under a truck. I love building stuff like this. Luxury off roading! P.S. side by sides aren't cheating. They are a ton of fun but they get expensive quickly and often.

I was going to ask about dyno testing on your exhaust builds. I think it would add that next level of content. Maybe partner with a dyno shop to show power gains and in the off-road world, torque at the wheels. It would also give more detailed context doing runs at a drag strip for decibel testing in a controlled environment. You guys next level geniuses.

We do have a dyno (dyno dynamics heartbreaker dyno) in house. We would love to include dyno runs in all our videos but it does take a lot of time and effort and we put out a video each week so at this point we are just not able to but we will work on it.

I have 440cdi ML and its tune 300hp/650nm, 35 and lift. Its broken two transfercases also. I end up just well whole thing and its hold up, but ass to drive on road.

Im curious on this rumor mill of jk transfer case. I know there is aftermarket cases that are universal to a point. Then make adapter plate & you're set. Fab rats uses it on his son jace's white dodge dakota they recently built. Cant remember the name (brand) but its well known in off roading.

I'm guessing Alex picked up a worn out transfer case as the replacement so not spend the $$$. Get a new (or nearly new) transfer case and figure out how to put lower gears in the differentials to offset the 35's. But I'm guessing there is no such thing as gears low enough to make a difference so that's probably not going to work. Even if you can get a Jeep transfer case to work you'll burn up the transmission because of the 35" tires and crappy diff gearing.
