seeing that place on South Park made me think the cliff diving in a restaurant was too over the top to be real.

YES!! I've been waiting to hear you guys talk about this. I love this doc so much. I think we could all relate to Trey, cuz purchasing Casa Bonita might be the biggest childhood nostalgic splurge of all time. What gets me excited too is that the documentary crew has been filming non-stop since 7 days to air. They have so much potential for future documentaries. Let's hope we get to see the making of the live concert 🤞

It seems when I was a kid in the late 90s early 2000s there was a while smattering of places created specifically for kids to run around in and have fun. I'm talking the discover zone, fast food play places, children's museums, park playgrounds, Chuck e cheese They had giant jungle gyms, pizza, games, arcade, you had parties there. It seems like these were products of the affluent late 20th century society in North America, and nowadays they're closing them down. I guess if they weren't ever very profitable in the first place it's only naturally, but it's sad, like society has a little less polish to it, kids have less to grow up with. I totally sympathize with Trey in trying to recapture and rescue what he like casa bonita for as a kid. Someone needs to rejuvenate our degraded society, it all starts with us doing little things.

My grandfather talked about Casa Bonita - we didn't get to go when we were there because it was closed. But I think it's cool that someone was able to save it and just dump a bunch of money into it. A lot of our art centers are propped up by the wealthy so it's refreshing to see some actually do that instead of building rocket ships to escape the hellscape that earth is becoming.

This was an awesome documentary. It was cool to see someone who has influenced so much comedy and humour in my life do something completely different t but be the same person. Matt and Trey seem like genuinely awesome people. This was the type of show my and my best friend actually watch together since I love South Park and they love remodelling shows lol an odd mix that worked out great!

My mom lived in Colorado as a child/teenager before moving to California, and I remember her telling me that a lot of the places that show up in South Park (like Casa Bonita) were actual real locations.

Finally saw this last night and rewatched the clip! Sorry for the tome: Just in general, it's such a cool project. With Book of Mormon and owning the South Park streaming rights, Matt and Trey are crazy minted. If I were this rich, this is exactly the type of money-losing madcap project I'd love to do! Using $40,000,000 to refurbish and reopen a beloved childhood establishment is a wonderful thing. Good on them! Enjoyable docu (love trey and Matt!) but a bit manufactured. Like, let's introduce a deadline (Cinco) that we don't meet. And then really withhold any kind of joy or success until the very end. I mean I get it (dramatic tension!) but they dwell on problems, problems problems, and quickly gloss over the solution - which makes the victory hollow. There's a bit where they come back from break and it's "somehow we got the permits and were ready to go" in a voiceover and wtf that's supposed to suffice! (which does feel a bit Kitchen Nightmares 😂) It is wonderful hearing Frankie talk about UK Kitchen Nightmares. I love it's calmer approach and that Gordon does the V.O. - it's so much more personable. And he also only roars at chefs if what they're doing is going to kill someone! (not because it's his gimmick) The HEAD CHEF... seems to be integral on interior and structural design, and training the divers too? The actors being the most vocally pissy about script changes is quite funny, considering Team America, where the shoot was a disaster as it was insanely difficult working with marionettes, but Trey and Matt said it was still preferable to working with actors 😂 How badly the Casa Bonita is in disrepair when they bought it - it seems legal action should be taken? Like swimmers having down a tiny hole and exposed plumbing that could catch their attire! So much disrepair, it felt like Trey and Matt needed this doc to sell to Paramount to try recoup some losses. They use a relevant south park quote as a punchline. Because there's little joy and jokes that were filmed! A wee SP clip works well as it's a nice "reward" for watching the segment. Hearing Trey offhand quote Cartman ("was it work it? Sweet") was great though. My final and main sticking point is the high of finally opening and it's a success, is nowhere near the crushing sadness of seeing Trey Parker wallowing in the pit of despair! Multiple times, he's stunned, absorbed, consumed by misery. Even the happy ending is snuffed out as he says he can't be there anymore. Opening night, seeing him patrol the background, moping and shuffling in the darkness, haunting it like the bloody Phantom of the Opera. That's the take home image for me - I never wanted to see one of my favourite creators ever THIS SAD. Great review and chat on it lads!

So if they're pulling in 40k customers a week who are spending $10 a piece, that's over $20M a year in gross. They should be able to break even in 5 years depending on the overhead and if they can continue that kind of traffic.
@jamespetkwitz8737
@jamespetkwitz8737 Ай бұрын
I think that is super generous. Restaurants in general are super super slim margins... and They have A TON of Overhead.. The utilities and maintenance on a facility that large is enormous. That is ultimately why it deteriorated in the first place. Cleaning crews pool maintenance, Actors, staff... and those servers are making a lot more than minimum wage, because they went away from tipping. I think all the payments are card and digital... so I know to compensate they had to pay way more than minimum.. cause tips dwindle when people aren't paying cash. Sure, they have a gift shop and games, And now it has way more of an appeal as they are owning it now, so you have worldwide South Park fans wanting to go. The insurance cost alone must be astronomical in that place!!! think of all the way actors or kids could get hurt! So yeah. I think 5 years is very very hopeful thinking.

The UK kitchen nightmares is great, the US kitchen nightmares is funnier but has incredibly bad episodes because it gets too dumb 😂 There's episodes in the US show where the producers find the the biggest POS narcissist owners, they berte their waiters after their own screw ups etc. basically from the beginning they know there's no hope for these restraruts they just want to capture the meltdown when Gordon confronts them. Those episodes feel pretty cynical but they are incredibly hilarious.

@@ducko5404this is such bullshit. Listen to any interview they have had since the show premiered. The thing that they have always done is rebel. and in particular against their own fans and the expectations that their fans have had. there is nothing about being punk for 30 year doing the same shit and playing to the same crowd of like minded people. I remember watching the "Terrance and Phillip April fools and how much shit they got from their fanbase, when they didn't get that they wanted. Sure I think it is only natural for the show to change over the years. Randy becoming a focus...the guys were older and having kids. If Trey and Matt were always Stan and Kyle...it probably safe to assume that both began Identifying with Randy as they grew up and had kids of their own I think a lot of the Randy's Pot Farm, and serialized seasons are them rebelling against what the " fanboys" are demanding of them. The louder they scream..." GIVE IS THE COMFORT FOOD WE WANT" The more they are going to calmly say " Here is a season of Randy and Towely on the farm!"

This just kinda proves more to me that South Park’s decline the last 10 years is due to Trey being so rich he became the same out of touch celebrity he made fun of for decades Super nice of him to do this for his hometown, unfortunate he doesn’t have the perspective of the average Joe to write good satire anymore. @@sleep_sounds Yeah because you guys are blinded at how things changed socially only within a few years. What was considered normal like 15-20 years ago in South Park’s prime has shifted to being considered “extreme” Like these guys were defending Trayvon Martin in 2012, wild stuff. They don’t make fun of everyone like they used to. It’s like they get most of their material from CNN headlines Like for example, the episode about trans athletes wasn’t even about actual trans athletes. It was about the straight white dude who wanted to get revenge on his ex, and that all guys are man babies when it comes to women gaming(who were all better than the boys). Shit was cringe Trey is basically like AVGN at this point, except Trey sniffs his own farts. People just don’t realize it yet
