A simple hike in the woods turned bad quick when the owner of this Tacoma got back to his truck and realized he lost his keys somewhere out on his hike. He was able to get a ride out of the mountains and back home, so my dad and I took the 4x4 tow truck up to get it scooped up, loaded on the Collins Dollies, and towed back to town. We were supposed to take it to the dealership, but they are backed up over a week, so we just dropped it at his house instead.

After losing my car key somewhere during a 16 mile mountain bike ride in 35 degree weather - leaving me locked out of my car and stuck in the middle of nowhere freezing my ass off - I now fit all my keys with a Tile Pro key tracker. It allows me to pinpoint the time frame and area in which I got separated from my key. I can then return to that area, retrace my steps and ping the key to beep loudly once I'm within 400 ft of it. Well worth it for the peace of mind.

Years ago I worked in a remote community with a lot of tourists that visited it. One day I was at a friend's garage when a couple showed up about their brand new Mercedes-Benz. They had locked their keys in it. They had had it for one day and were told by the dealer that it could not be entered without the keys. It took my friend under 30 seconds to get into it. It changed their whole outlook on how secure their Mercedes was.

Interesting. I didn't think to check at Ace cuz I didn't think they did the programmable keys but I went to a locksmith and it was the same price ast the stealership but I figure at least I wasn't giving it to the stealership. I bought my Focus used and there was only one key so that;s the first thing I searched for was how much for a new key :/ Got a door only key as well because I'm prone to locking my keys in the car. I was shocked as it's just basically a cut key with a t on the end like 1/2" wide! So need to have like a pair of pliers if there's any resistance at all. :/

@CaseyLaDelle
@CaseyLaDelle 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the situation. If you're putting the dollies on the drive wheels and lift them, there's nothing to stop the vehicle from rolling away. Also, lifting the dolly end creates less clearance under the other end to get the wheel lift under. Neither of those were a concern with this truck

They are fine in some places for cars. In MN they are cash cows for tow trucks, body shops. Those of us pulling trailers hate them with a passion. They put in a roundabout on our mountain highway which had another major road teeing into it. The highway traffic had a speed limit of 45 and there were many accidents. People were against the roundabout, but there have been only a couple of very minor accidents since then and no long traffic jams. With a roundabout, they have to try really hard to have a high speed impact and the odds are much better that it won't ever happen. Not to say I haven't ever had a bad experience at a roundabout, but it was over 50 years ago in Washington District of Criminals and I was riding a bicycle and the car driver was being neglectful. I wasn't hit, but I got a scare.

Take a spare key and use electrical tape and secure it to a cable or wire bundle or something similar underneath. Would probably never be seen by someone looking for it, but you will know where it is.

Nashville Tennessee downtown between 2nd and 3rd avn. Unmarked police car locked up running in the street ( 30 years ago) . Marked car and 2 officers trying to open the car. I go to my car get chann6locks, coat hanger and a large screw driver. Opened the car 30 seconds, Detective was grateful told me I needed to start a business like Pop a lock.
Inches from disaster. This was a bad one.
