That is a Mountain Bluebird, not a jay. That is typical of their behavior. Western Bluebirds are notorious for the same. Loved the video.

Casey, your HVAC fan resistor cooked (or cooked something) on the 'low' setting. When you switched to a higher setting the low/high resistance portion was taken out of the circuit, hence, no more smoke.
@AlAmantea
@AlAmantea 23 күн бұрын
I was thinking the exact same thing. Likely caught some leaves or other debris on fire, which got blown out by the higher fan speed. I'd bet if he checked the cabin air filter (if so equipped) it's either burnt or showing signs of smoke damage as well.

Casey, here’s a dandelion experiment for Riley. Pick a yellow dandelion. Put it in a jar or clip it to a curtain (no water). Watch over the next days. The dandelion will form a white fluffy seed head…not as round as outside in the wild, but still viable seeds. Gardeners who want to get dandelions out of their yards have to dispose of the plants carefully because they will still produce seeds even after the whole plant is pulled up. You can experiment with dandelion flowers at varying degrees of maturity to see which ones will continue to go through the whole cycle even after being picked. PS..where were Wes’ dogs during the recovery?

I checked the oil in my Duramax before towing a heavy load across Pennsylvania. Climbing up the mountain on the Northeast Extension of the Pa Turnpike smoke started rolling out of my defrosters, pulled over and opened the hood and I had fire coming out between the motor and the firewall. Put it out with a bottle of water and discovered that when I checked the oil there were a bunch of maple seeds piled up on the cowl and when opened the hood they dumped down behind the engine. Pulling the hill the turbo must have gotten hot enough to ignite them. The fire didn’t hurt anything and I cleaned the seeds out, the truck started and ran fine. Lesson learned, watch for seeds and leaves falling down when opening the hood. The funny thing is I saw them come in like a waterfall but never thought anything about it!

The large fenced in area is a corral where they kept the cattle until they were all rounded up and that smaller logged in area inside the larger corral would have most likely been where the cowboys kept their horses at night. The old wood flume was actually long watering trough so the amount of cattle being held while the cowboys rounded up the rest of the cattle would all have access to water during their few days stay.

The hollowed-out logs. Think back to your school History books when The Roman's built an aqueduct. Stone pillars connected with hollowed out logs to get the water from the mountain to the city. The Romans also invented the ancient toilets. As you were poopin' the flow of the water would take the poop/pee to the fields to be watered with the waste. Whoever lived in that log cabin was fortunate to find a natural spring and built an aqueduct to get the water to another area. for crops or animals. Smart idea because there were no weeds in their wooden ditch. Thanks, Casey, for showing us some ancient area of your State.

I had part of my family go to Oregon in 1846. They left in April and it took till December before the found a place to winter. He died in Summit Oregon and is buried there. His brother was well known in California as the split, one going to California and the other to Oregon. He married on the Oregon Trail. They went without food for days crossing the lava beds in southeastern Oregon and his wife's father died. They were finally able to buy dried salmon from some natives so they could make it.

Casey, I had a Ford Explorer that caught fire because pine needles (where I parked daily), accumulated in the fresh air intake of the blower motor for the defrost/ heater and the friction of the fan rubbing on the pine needles caused them to ignite and burned the dash up before I could get it extinguished.
