I think the likely scenario is that Respawn was prototyping Titanfall 3 using the same modified source engine and were testing a battle royale mode. Then some business decision was made to hold off on making Titanfall 3 and just turn that mode into a full fledged standalone game. So this will be the cash cow as Respawn works on their Star Wars game and that other Titanfall project, and as long as EA doesn't liquidate Respawn we'll likely get a proper Titanfall game on a brand new engine sometime on next gen consoles. That's my theory. Of course, I could be wrong and Respawn simply becomes the Apex Legends company forever. PS. I cannot get enough of Woolie's legit sadness. No smiles, no joking, just pain.

...Y'know, I honestly had hopes that titanfall would do for this generation what Halo did when it first came out ._.

I don't care if this is a year old, just wanted to say I felt exactly the same. Halo was basically the thing that everyone loved that I also loved, and that's never been the case since. 343 have steadily ran Halo into the ground, Titanfall didn't get the chance it deserved (despite doing everything right,) Overwatch had a great start and basically nosedived. Everything else is a battle royale that doesn't remotely interest me. But hey, Doom Eternal looks great. Maybe the multiplayer will be a big hit.

Much like the podcast itself, these clips are getting steadily and terrifyingly longer over time

Woolie posted on Twitter 2 hours ago that Apex was amazing and a new Titanfall game is still in works. It's just not T3 or VR. If Woolie can crawl out of this then I'm sure everyone else can.

Just want to point something out: "not currently in development" and "cancelled" are two *very* different things. Yes, it's always disappointing to discover that something you've been anticipating isn't actually around the corner, but you shouldn't equate "not soon" with "never". Also, Apex Legends isn't a new IP; it's set in the Titanfall universe.
