Helium 3 on the moon is a tried and tested thing in sci-fi. It is nearly always the old: lack of resources on Earth, helium 3 has been found on the moon and so there is either already a moonbase there to harness it's use in fusion power, or you need to build one. Another example is the game Anno 2205 where you need to build fusion power up there.

@Hellsong89
@Hellsong89 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, but there actually is helium 3 on the moon, really relative easily mined, but problem comes where we dont have suitable fusion reactors at hand, cause there is very little helium3 on earth making development of such reactor really expensive and furthermore problem comes to how to transport fuel to earth. This game is actually has good idea about it by having reactors on moon near the fuel and then move energy using lasers or microwave radiation to earths receiving stations around the globe. Still issue is to build the facilities on the moon. There is no breathable air, low gravity, harmful radiation from the space and micro meteorites would pummel facility to pulp if suitable shielding method is developed(same problem with space craft in general). There reasons are causing delay on utilizing said energy production. Also corporations, governments and banks are not really keen on developing space mining, as asteroid belt for instance has asteroids full of resources like gold where one cargo load of gold brought to earth would drop golds value so low and fiat currencies being tied to golds value fiat currency would also drop.

FYI: Nicolaus Copernicus is the Latinized version of Mikołaj Kopernik (there's a pronunciation button for that on the Polish version of his wikipedia page), so any apologies, if applicable, should go to the Romans instead. ;)
@ulrikadad3343
@ulrikadad3343 4 жыл бұрын
Depipro FYI Nicolaus Copernicus is the latinized version of Niklas Koppernigk, who was a Prussian and spoke German or Latin all his life. He was the nephew of the influential prince bishop of the Hanse city of Thorn, Lucas Watzenrode and a very influential administrator of the early Prussian union of cities himself. Yes, he fought with the Polish king against the German Order and Thorn is nowadays a part of Poland. But Kopernikus would’ve vehemently denied being polish......
@Depipro
@Depipro 4 жыл бұрын
@@ulrikadad3343 Your use of "Prussian" implying "German" is an anachronism in this case. The German "Kingdom of Prussia" was founded in 1701, with the specific purpose of not being subordinate to the Holy Roman Emperor (which its predecessor state of Brandenburg was). In Copernicus's time, Prussia, the ancestral land of the Prusai (a Baltic people), was contested between the Polish crown and the Teutonic Order. As for Copernicus's family name, it has been spelled in different ways depending on the language of the one doing the spelling, but his family has been traced back to Silesia. Which makes sense, since -nik is a perfectly normal Slavic suffix. Copernicus's mother was half-Polish, half-German, which is where the Watzenrode connection comes in. So, to be entirely correct here: Copernicus was the child of at least three peoples: Silesian, Polish and German.

There has been discussion of Copernicus' nationality and of whether it is meaningful to ascribe to him a nationality in the modern sense. Nicolaus Copernicus was born and raised in Royal Prussia, a semiautonomous and polyglot region of the Kingdom of Poland. He was the child of German-speaking parents and grew up with German as his mother tongue. His first alma mater was the University of Kraków in Poland. When he later studied in Italy, at the University of Bologna, he joined the German Nation, a student organization for German-speakers of all allegiances (Germany would not become a nation-state until 1871). His family stood against the Teutonic Order and actively supported the city of Toruń during the Thirteen Years' War (1454-66). Copernicus' father lent money to Poland's King Casimir IV Jagiellon to finance the war against the Teutonic Knights, but the inhabitants of Royal Prussia also resisted the Polish crown's efforts for greater control over the region. Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana, The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia, The Oxford World Encyclopedia, and World Book Encyclopedia refer to Copernicus as a "Polish astronomer". Sheila Rabin, writing in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, describes Copernicus as a "child of a German family [who] was a subject of the Polish crown", while Manfred Weissenbacher writes that Copernicus's father was a Germanized Pole. There are additional arguments for Kopernik's Polish descent on his father's side. Kopernik's Y-DNA haplogroup, R1b L51, is found in southern Poland (in Silesia, where his father came from and Little Poland) and in France and in Italy, but not in Germany or Austria and is most commonly referred to Celtic people, in Poland slavicized prior to 6th-7th century. The surname Kopernik is typically Polish, with its suffix -nik, indicating an occupation (e.g. cukiernik, "confectioner", or górnik, "miner"); while Koper- may refer to koprowina, an old Polish term for the Latin "cuprum" ("copper"). The surname Kopernik is now found in Poland in 130 persons, and in Germany in only 22, mostly Polish immigrants to Germany. The Kopernik family likely derives its name from the Silesian village of Koperniki, in the duchy of Nysa, where they lived prior to moving to Kraków. The 1493 Nuremberg Chronicle describes the Nysa rural population's language as Polish: "plebs rustica polonici ydeomatis...". During the Middle Ages, Silesia's Polish Piast rulers brought German-speaking settlers to towns, for their knowledge of the Magdeburg laws and their ability to implement associated rearranging of town layout in a regular, more easily taxable grid; while the indigenous Silesian population spoke Polish, only much later fully assimilating to the German language of the hereditary civic leaders. So long story short - the Germans love to steal from the Poles, the success has many fathers, but a defeat is an orphan. Btw when it comes to German approach towards Poland - what's new in the subject of WWII reparations? 😏 (those weren't your doing by any chance?)

If we can ever push past the red tape and NIMBY harpies, yeah, I'm on board. Any problems thorium reactors have are there in conventional fission systems, and thorium enjoys some advantages that uranium doesn't. I always wonder about these games that use an energy crisis as a plot motivator for exoplanet mining. I mean, we have the technology to build colonies on other worlds (or in this case, a space elevator, a self-sustaining colony, and a shipyard on the moon), but we somehow _don't_ have the tech to Dyson-belt the sun? We can do that today, and the only reasons we don't are because space launches are still a bit too expensive for power plants and because people don't understand how microwave power transmission works.

The backstory intro to this game makes me wince: after investing so much into a lunar fusion power/microwave transmission system, apparently becoming reliant on it for energy, once the power goes out the people funding the project declare "no, we're done with the moon"? There's no indication of alternative power structures, like solar satellites or anything, just "well, the power's out, I guess we'll not have power anymore and _no_ you can't just go find out what the problem is, _we don't want to know"_ I'm sure it's explained better in the game but damn the intro is a real headbanger.

TLDR: Earth basically used up all it's major expendable resources launching the initial moon mission. They don't have the means, (without beamed power from the moon), to run everything they need to extract the remaining hard to acquire resources to successfully launch a full scale rescue mission. Some of the stuff on the rocket launch from earth portion also implies that in the 5 years since the blackout the major world governments have functionally collapsed. Not that any of this is reasonable. We actually have coal and fissionable reserves great enough to last us for centuries to come each even if we ran our entire power infrastructure off it.
@Vespuchian
@Vespuchian 4 жыл бұрын
@@darthkarl99 Exactly my point. The whole setup for this game seems like an excuse to have you explore this station alone so they wouldn't have to animate other people, which seems a bit overkill since you (and presumably any other members of a rescue/investigation that would have been there) are wearing a helmet. If they changed the setup to "Dark-Side Observatory 3 has gone dark. We're starting investigation/rescue protocols and you're the closest one there." you could have your mystery without the nonsense "save the world with MOON ENERGY".

So Jingles is finally going to take his man pants back from Rita? I think not, she will get the whip out again and put him to work in his own salt mine!

Jingles, you better name the ASE. My personal recommendation: Sauron. Because it looks like an eye. Eye of Sauron.

Jingles, i dont want to upset you, nor any Pole who was mentioning that Nicolaus Copernicus is the latinized version of his "real name" "Mikołaj Kopernik" which is of corse right, but his name was actually "Niklas Koppernigk" a german speaking man of the city of Thorn, son of Niklas Koppernigk and Barbara Watzenrode. "Mikołaj Kopernik" is the polonized version of his name.

Regarding secret service guys, you certainly didn't read about OSS operations in French Indochina, Edward Lansdale, and didn't listen to Fletcher Prouty's interviews, what I recommend!

Jingles you actually got Copernicus right. As he lived in continental, midevial Europe, everyone was speaking latin. Copernicus is actually the latin form of his name. His full name in Polish is Mikołaj Kopernik. I think this name is kind of probouncible even in English. Greetings from Poland

I was expecting a different ending to the brave-sentence, more something along the lines of what happens in another space game that we shall not mention (too loudly): "When I strap my manpants on and bolt the other way as fast as I can"

So, to be clear, this game just updated and Jingles plays through about a 3rd of the first chapter that everyone and their mother has seen over and over again showing us zero new content.... Oof... Love your vids Jingles, hope there is another video coming soon where you actually get past the train ride to the station after next (where chapter 1 ends)...
