Parlar comes from parabola, hablar comes from fabula. They are not cognates.

Thank you for paying attention to Catalan! Our language struggles to survive Spain's attacks since 3 centuries. Just one little thing: Catalán had 8 vowels, not 7 👍

Catalan is very Mediterranean and close to modern italian. Castilian has a lot of words from the Basques and the Moors.
