That was the genius of the show.. It could be enjoyed on 2 levels. Kid could enjoy the action, while (most) adults could enjoy the numerous jokes and parodies that kids could not get..Some of the jokes were so clever that they would be lost on plenty of adults also That especially applied to the the referential humour...You had to know the specific movie details that were being parodied, for example

What makes this show so charming is EXACTLY THAT Batman and Robin stop in the middle of a fight to discuss grammar. OF COURSE a Bat-shark repellent is the most unrealistic weapon imaginable . OF COURSE the cliffhangers can never be taken seriously. It's simply funny, and that is how it was supposed to be.
