Australian here, my uncle Bob was killed by a cow over 40 years ago. He was checking on the herd of dairy cows and although no one was there when he died, its presumed that the cow butted him over an incline. Never underestimate the maternal instincts. RIP uncle Bob.

I had an encounter with a field mouse when I was digging up my compost pile in Spring. I wanted to save her and her 3 babies from the Tractor and thought I’d just grab her or her skin behind the neck like I do with my Maine coon cat when he’s in the wrong place at the wrong time. Never fails. The mother mouse turned into a little lion! She somehow turned her neck and dug her front teeth into my finger, leaving me to drop her to stop the bleeding. She took off to the other part of the pile and I moved her babies there with a shovel. Never underestimate a momy animal. It’s a pity our human mothers mostly don’t give a shite and let the authorities do whatever they ask them to do!!! Where are the lion mothers? I know, they are checking their status on F…book and Zwitter.

Profit margins Keith. That's what they care about so they want their 'widgets' to be healthy with as little financial inputs (vet costs) to take away from that profit margin. And by his own admission, cattle have 'families' and care about one another so the bs attitude from all you meat eaters that 'animals aren't like people' so we don't have to worry about their feelings and can slaughter them at will.....BS.

We have cows and if they have plenty of grass and water, they aren’t as likely to get out of the pasture. Also if you walk up to them and give them a good scratch every now and again, they will be more gentle. They will come to you with their calves and show them off to you.

I used to trail ride on a 5000 acre preserve that horseback riders shared with cattle ranchers. During spring we had to be careful not to stumble upon the newborns curled up in the deep grass napping while the mothers grazed nearby ...or semi nearby. The mommas always seemed calm despite the close encounters.

When I was growing up my parents owned a dairy farm. It was a small grade B Jersey dairy with 86 cows. I could just look at the cows udder and tell you her name. When we had to go out and get the mommies and babies, we always took some treats for the mom. As we were a dairy, things are done differently than meat cattle. It was so much work, I didn't miss it at all when we sold the dairy. Now as an adult, I'd have much more appreciation of the whole thing. Ours was a family farm, so there was little $ for hiring others to do the work.

Beautiful animals ❤ I was reading an old farming journal from 1900 and seemingly the healthiest and nutritious food that cattle loved were Turnips. In the 1970's I remember the smell of sliced Turnips from the Farm next to my uncle's home, ready to be distributed out on the pasture fields for the Cow's to eat. My Uncle Joe was a Forester who had lots of Logging Loads of Trees lined up in his yard. It was the place to go every Sunday as a Family including Summer holidays which gave me the Love for the Countryside and Nature. ❤

I just found your channel..popped up on my feed...I love how you are raising your animals! We had a small little farm for a short time and I always believed that raising your animals with love produces healthy happy and tastier animals...I hate to say that but it's true. They know their place in the big scheme of things, but raising animals in slaughter houses floods the meat with toxins .. And makes it unhealthy for consumption. It's scary to think most of the food we eat is raised that way! I would spend the extra money to get quality food raised with love and care .. And I'm by no means wealthy...lol. thank you for your work and your contribution to making this world just a little bit better☺️

Well, well. So glad to see a farm like yours. So you live in NC? So do I! I too live in southwestern Appalachian's. Fresh air, and pure country. I'm in Macon County. I used to own a ranch in Eastern Utah many years ago. I used to raise sheep and cattle, mostly for my family. Nothing is better than beef and mutton/lamb when raised by people who care about what goes in to your animals. I also raised nubian goats for their milk. Had a few horses as well. Raise our own alfalfa, corn and wheat. I remember when I once told my family at dinner that Nothing, with exception of the salt and pepper, was bought from a store. Everything we grew or raised ourselves. It was an awesome feeling. I miss my small ranch. My children grew up on the ranch and had daily chores, inside and outside. They learned how to be self sufficient, and a good work ethic. Today, my son has a degree in electrical engineering and works on the outskirts of large metro area monitoring and repairing many hospitals CT Scanners and MRI's. My daughter is working as an RN and working on her Masters in Nursing. She also owns and runs a riding stable and takes people riding up in our beautiful Appalachian Mountains. I think your farm is lovely. I'm so jealous. But I'm almost too old anymore to work like that anymore. LOL.

I, too, appreciate content creators who don't create drama with their titles which they don't ever reveal in their videos. I also appreciated the way you narrated the story with education for newbies without talking down to us. I liked knowing how you take care of the cows (moving them from field to field twice a day) helps you keep them well without medicines. My Paw-Paw had closed his dairy long before I was born, my uncle raised only a few bottle calves, and my uncle and dad only bought and cared for two mama cows who had calves, so I didn't get to experience a lot of cattle raising.

If you are in the Smoky Mountains, Little Smoky is a great name for a gorgeous young man. Congratulations on a nice herd. Sounds like you are giving them a good life. I subscribed because you are using "recovered" land. Thanks! I'm in the NC Piedmont.

When I was younger I worked for a surveying company. I remember being in a pasture in Connecticut and being approached by over a dozen cows. They were just being curious at my presence but it was nonetheless intimidating as they must have weighed about 600 pounds each!

I’m new on here I always wanted to do a hobby farm, a lot of work so i thank all the farmers for their hard work and dedication to provide healthy clean food. I visited friends who raised cows and the kids trained the baby cow to play with them. By the time it was next season he was full grown playing soccer and hide and seek with us lol. I love cows they are amazing❤.

Good warning on the Momma - selfie people gonna get themselves killed without it😏 We have pigs on our farm, and although We've raised our sows and Boar from near birth, they can be very protective. Without piglets, they act like puppies wanting scratches and attention. I'm quite safe as I listen to their que's and subtle warnings and they trust me...(they trust my dog more than me 😂) But if a stranger jumped in there...Ole Bill just might not let 'em leave...🤔😬

Calving time on the farm is so rewarding both emotionally and of course financially. You do have a nice looking herd of Angus there. You say North Carolina, good looking country side for pasturing. About the vaccination statement you surely have a professional veterinarian for the herd and work closely with their suggestions.
