You know, every time I hear John speak, I'm reminded of a quote from Good Will Hunting. When Sean speaks to Will about the cruel analysis of his painting, he says "I stayed up half the night thinking about it. And then, something occurred to me and I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. I haven't thought of you since. Want to know what occurred to me? You're just a kid. You haven't the slightest idea of what you're talking about." Different context, same vibes. Doyle doesn't have the intelligence, either emotional or intellectual, to understand the things he discusses. Nor does he have the life experience necessary to place that knowledge into context.

Slightly wrong here on the mac and cheese history. To clarify, MANY people in the US were already aware of, and making, macaroni in various froms, having imported it from Europe LONG before Washington. Many of them did add various cheeses. Washington's chef POPULARIZED it, because Washington was, you know, George Washington. But he wasn't the first to make it, and macaroni was already a popular dish, and macaroni with various cheeses and cheese sauces were all the rage in Europe, and therefore could not have avoided being imported to America. I HATE that people have to warp history to respond to previous historical inaccuracies. Yes, his chef played an important part in popularizing it in the US. But it was here when we were still a colony. You don't have to go from one extreme to another. You don't have to exaggerate his importance in this matter, to recognize his role. Now, apply that to every argument the left makes in reply to the right's pig headedness about race, and we'll finally make some progress in setting history straight.

Capital is just how we organize our transactions Capitalism as “the pursuit of capital” can be ended if the capital wouldn’t have so much power over people. Capitalism as a way of managing finances isn’t inherently bad as long as it isn’t left unchecked What he keeps saying is we need to take the current financial system and adjust it so people who have a lot can’t use it to hold people hostage: whether it’s toilet paper or fucking hand sanitizer. Like goddamn how is this hard to get It’s just coz people hear “capitalism” and they think what they wanna hear rather than learning what the words reference within the sentences they’re being said - CONTEXT Like wow - keep your dolleridoos- use bottle caps - it doesn’t matter: if there’s no regulatory power protecting those who don’t have wealth, those who DO have wealth will abuse it to maintain their status by stepping over the poors

Small businesses enviably become big businesses and thus the cycle repeats. The main issue with capitalism is the incentive structure, there's no incentive to do the right thing, because it's more costly to do the right thing, paying people living wages means less profits for the owner class.
@davehoyle98652 жыл бұрын
I assume you mean “inevitably” because I don’t see how envy applies to this discussion. And you are so far off base here. Market can inevitably grow but there is absolutely no reason a small business will become a big business. A food truck owner, restaurant owner, boutique inn/tavern/bed and breakfast owner, local hardware/retail store owners, artisans and artists, gallery owners. These are all examples business that can theoretically expand into larger business with capital investors but in practice are more likely to grow only within their means. In a system where all standard of living need are de-commodified, there would be no need to “pay a livable wage” because all wages would disposable income.
@ToxicAudri2 жыл бұрын
@@davehoyle9865 "no reason a small business will become a big business" What is the point of owning or starting a business? To make money. And how do you make a business make more money? You grow and expand it. A business is a machine designed to generate money for the owner of that business, this is done by operating at a profit, or in other words cutting costs to keep more of what you take in, this allows a business to grow and expand and provides the ability to make more and more money for the owner of that business. You sound like one of those "Free market" capitalists, which always ignore the fact that the free market never remains free when monopolies exist, the goal of a businesses owner is to create a monopoly, that way they can dictate the prices of the goods or services they sell to the consumer, such as in the case with pharma, oil, coal, food, seed, etc, patients help company's create monopolies, and working with rival companies helps to create effective monopolies that skirt the laws in the US that deal with monopolies, agreeing to set their prices at the same costs prevents undercutting, and because it's often very costly to even set up and maintain the infrastructure to provide a service, such as with cable, phone, or fiber optic, it limits who can compete with the already established giants. A "A food truck owner" can expand their business by buying more food trucks and hiring people, or franchise, a "restaurant owner" can franchise, " boutique inn/tavern/bed and breakfast owner" can buy more property and open new locations, "local hardware/retail" Again same issues as before, they don't have to remain local as they can franchise out or purchase property to create new store locations. "artisans and artists, gallery owners" artisans and artists can merchandise and expand their business by selling more crap to their followers, by continuing to build up "their brand" gallery owners just buy more art and more expensive art to sell to ever wealthier clientele. "These are all examples business that can theoretically expand into larger business with capital investors but in practice are more likely to grow only within their means." Grow within their means, that's the fucking point, over time that means expands and you get a bigger and bigger business. You aren't making the point you think you are. "In a system where all standard of living need are de-commodified, there would be no need to “pay a livable wage” because all wages would disposable income." Yes that's the point, however that also means it cuts into profits for many businesses that rely on the commodification of such things, which is why it's resisted. Thus the incentive structure of capitalism puts profits over people.
@davehoyle98652 жыл бұрын
@@ToxicAudri I don’t think you understand my point at all. I believe in market socialism. I’m saying there are plenty of business owners that are in business for an interest outside of making money. Your insults towards me only show you don’t understand the idea that come people want to participate in commerce to expand their freedom. Do you not think luxury items should be commodified? Restaurants? Hair salons? Videos games? Sex? Drugs? Art? You don’t seem to understand that with Universal Housing, Healthcare, Utilities, basic Nutrition, would eliminate the need to exploit employees, so there would be no exploitation from small business owners in wages because all wages would be expendable.
@davehoyle98652 жыл бұрын
@@ToxicAudri your first assumption is just wrong. Most people that start a small business is not to make money, it is to share their passion or something they enjoy. When I go into my FLGS to run D&D and I purchase my paints and minis from the store, I do it because the owner wants to provide a safe place to game with knowledgeable staff to assist you. I want that business to grow within their means so I have more places to play TTRPGs and provide more/better products.

One argument against incentivization. Some places in the US did that. It had little to no effect. It has nothing to do with daddy issues at this point. It's a subconscious belief to other people that they're superior. However, absolute definitions always contain their opposite in order to have meaning. The concept of joy is meaningless if there's no concept of sorrow, etc. This means that while they subconsciously see themselves as superior they also subconsciously see everyone else as inferior and the superior have no need to ever listen to the inferior.

He wants his own little unit that he can control their belief structure because he's afraid of them being exposed to ideals that conflict with his own, and them choosing that over him. And the reason for that? Is because his belief structure places him squarely at the top. A position he wouldn't have to earn or prove he's worthy of or even really have to be effective at. Because merit based things? Like the love, respect, and adoration of a family that you'd have to earn? Scares the shit out of him.
