In the early 70's I worked at a major Hotel where John Denver and Frank Sinatra performed. John asked if the employees were going to see the once in a lifetime show.He said we will play a special show for them because he saw how much the employee worked behind the scenes for them..and they did for free.A line of first come first serve with an orchestra. It was a special event one I will not forget. You could tell he was a real caring person and he was a great entertainer. May he rest in place 🙏.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's a John Denver fan. I had a girlfriend in HS in the early 90's who would roll her eyes when I would play his music. I broke up with her. One of my life's great regrets is passing up the opportunity to see John Denver in concert. He was dead soon after that concert. My wife and I had Annie's Song as our wedding song... still going strong almost 23 years later. Thanks to John Denver for some truly wonderful music.

I got to see John several times. I was a preteen the first time. I cried. I had absolutely no control over it. He was larger than life in that moment and I was overwhelmed by emotion. I still remember that concert like it was yesterday. I was secretly jealous of Annie and definately planned on being her replacement ... as soon as I got out of Jr high. lol. I cried all the way through this video. I miss John so much. You only lost one girlfriend because she dissed John? I got dissed so much I became immune. As a matter of fact I still feel sorry for people that don't get John's music / message. If not for his music I wouldn't have survived my childhood.

I’m sorry you never got to see him in concert. I saw him in Portland, OR in the fall of 1973. It was an amazing concert. I would have liked to have seen him in the 90s. Because his music had matured quite a bit. Have you seen the video on KZbin of the 1995 Wildlife Concert? It’s awesome. I love how he performed “Guess He’d Rather Be In Colorado” at that concert.

In 1970 at the University of Detroit, I bumped into this guy setting up behind the curtain. He had a guitar and was adjusting the chair. I got off the stage before the curtain was pulled back. And the announcer said, "And, now, a new talent. Welcome John Denver!" He stunned the mostly student audience attending what was primarily a political rally with the music.

While Denver’s mellow music made many believe he was equally easygoing in real life, a story about their breakup shows how he could have a bad temper. While the pair split up their property in 1982, Denver allegedly became abusive, almost choking his wife, Annie Martell, and even using a chainsaw to cut their bed in half. It’s true, look it up.

Back in the late eighties, he came to Mexico City to sing at a Rotary Club convention. My daughter was part of his “back-up” chorus as she attended a local bilingual school and her music teacher was asked to get some kids together for the opening ceremony. The theme was ecology, so he performed a song he wrote for the event, and then included Annie’s Song.We all got to meet him backstage where he was upbeat, kind and funny. His bags got lost in transit, so he made light of the situation and wore a beautiful, multi-colored jacket he had travelled in. It is a treasured memory. When he broke into Annie’s Song, my heart soared.

Before "Country Roads" and "Rocky Mountain High" would help his solo career take off, Denver had written a song originally titled "Babe, I Hate To Go". It was brought to the attention of the popular folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. They would take the song, retitled as "Leaving On A Jet Plane", all the way to No. One on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles Chart.

Peter, Paul, and Mary also recorded For Baby (For Bobbie) in 1966. I read the song was originally written about a former girlfriend named Bobbie. Mary Travers had just given birth to her daughter and suggested changing the meaning of the song to a mother who would do anything for her child, hence the revised song title For Baby (For Bobbie)

My brother, who i also attended an early concert with in FW, played and sang a medley of our favorites at his funeral. John’s compelling, brilliantly beautiful and evocative voice music poetry and spirit still move me so deeply -such intense memories i can hardly bear it. “ Yesterday i had a dream about dying, about laying to rest and then flying, how the moment at hand is the only thing we really own. On a road trip in college from Chicago to the West Coast with no MP3 players or streaming music my friends and I pulled in a Colorado station once we hit the state line and we heard a lot of John Denver. To this day if a song comes on I just have to pause and sing along. What a beautiful lyricist and musician!

My sister & I were just talking about him & his music yesterday. She said her friend had invited her to a concert back in the day when she lived in Texas. She really wasn't going to go, but changed her mind at the last minute. She said she was so glad she went, as it was the best concert she ever attended. People were up singing and dancing to "Grandma's Feather Bed." How awesome is that?

He was a great artist and humanitarian. A man with just a guitar created some of the best music of that era. I was so lucky to have been able to attend 3 of his concerts during that time!! Have a collection of his albums and CD’s to this day…. He left this world too early… doesn’t seem like 25 years ago..

When my mom lived in Colorado in the 1970s, she saw John Denver in concert at Red Rocks. She still talks about it. She's forever a "Colorado girl." To this day, I most associate the song "Rocky Mountain High" with my mom.

I can remember going to see him in Roanoke, VA in the summer of '76, even though I was only three years old. I absolutely loved watching him on TV and was always bugging my dad to play his records for me. My teenaged cousin won tickets way up close to the stage and invited me and my mom and dad because he knew how much I loved him. It was like a dream.

He came to Morgantown, West Virginia to perform Country Roads for us at the opening of new Mountaineer Field on Sept. 6, 1980 when I was a freshman at West Virginia University. What joy if gave then, and even now still gives so many years later. John Denver will always be connected to all true West Virginia Mountaineers.

I've never been to West Virginia but I've always loved that song. If you've never seen it in the moving movie "Logan Lucky" a little girl sings "County Roads" and it had me in tears. Along with Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" and The Blues Brother's "Sweet Home Chicago" it's one of my favourite songs linked to an area. What a wonderful anthem!
