I saw Ed Byrne live in my home town of Reading in 2019 and there was a group of about 5 people who kept walking out and then back in to the room over the course of about 15 and Ed Byrne then shaped most of the performance around this group. The way he adapts his set for the audience is brilliant. He was on fire that night

I was on tour with the musical "Annie" - Mickey and his family were in the front row centre... The family seemed to really enjoy it... Mikey slept through most of it. But he woke up quickly at the end, as soon as the curtain call started he couldn't get out fast enough.. the family was not happy then.

I came across an aging Mickey Dolenz and the Monkees too -- way past their glory days. they were touring and staying at the same hotel I was. Mickey had attitude. Yes he was obnoxious and rude. Peter Tork wasn't very agreeable either. I kept bumping into them... in the lobby. at the reception desk. at the breakfast dining room. at the local fancy restaurant.....

Well to be fair, Anthony is just a dude talking about stuff but Ed has a show to do. He's got to worry about moving the show along and keeping everyone else interested. So if someone is blabbing on and taking too long, what else can you do? You either cut him off or you give him the microphone and your paycheck and swap seats.

I had a run of around five consecutive airline flights where I observed at least a minor celebrity of some kind. The only two cases where I approached them at all, it was perfectly okay. In both those cases I waited until *after* the flight, also they were both guys. I had no good reasons to speak to any of the women other than making a nuisance of myself I thought - so I let them have their privacy trapped in a tube at over 35,000 feet as we were.
@fintonmainz78453 жыл бұрын
So you bother 2 out of 5 "minor celebrities" that you randomly encounter.
@puirYorick3 жыл бұрын
@@fintonmainz7845 It's not an average over hundreds of times just two all told as I indicated. Neither was bothered in the slightest. One had been buying drinks for his seatmates in the row in front of ours on the flight and introduced himself to them which confirmed my suspicion of who he was. When I later explained why I came up to him at baggage claim he thought it was neat and introduced his wife (now with him) to me and my family. The other case was a rock band and I just asked one guy I felt sure was their rhythm guitar player if they were in town in connection with a certain international event like many others and he said sort of but not officially and told me when and where they were booked. In my world these are perfectly normal *guy behaviors* but your mileage may vary, finton. The point was, as a physically imposing male, I don't approach women celebrities who are traveling alone because that seems creepy to me no matter the time or place.
@Loctorak3 жыл бұрын
With the exception of one or two comedians who have explicitly made a point of saying "if you ever want to come up to me in public please feel welcome to" (Gabriel Iglesias for example), I wouldn't approach any degree of celebrity anywhere in public. I don't know them, and I rarely walk up and start talking to other people I don't know, so I'd just do as I normally would. And I generally see it in terms of "no matter how much of a fan I am or how many tickets to their shows I've bought etc, they still don't owe me any of their time or attention when they're not at work" cause that's how I'd want people to behave if it were me being the famous one.
@puirYorick3 жыл бұрын
@@Loctorak I don't generally disagree with that approach which is why I went to the extreme of explaining my two lifelong *exceptions* to my personal policy which roughly mirrors your own. Again - the first guy was being very very Christmas-y and convivial and introducing himself to people around him and buying drinks when he could have played things quiet if he wanted privacy. Similarly the band members were scarcely being anti-social on that flight plus there was an extended festival party-like atmosphere in the city that time due to a special once in a generation international event. Both times it was just people chatting after a long flight together while waiting to claim our baggage off the carousel. There was no fanboy thing looking for autographs or selfies in any way. Not even my thing.

I think I have, actually, but in all cases I was too young to know who they were or really know what "famous" even meant. I also have an uncle/family friend who used to be a famous football player for Greece, but he lives in (this will shock you) Greece so we don't see each other heaps. If I saw anyone famous now, I'd make a point of not acknowledging them unless required -they must get ogled and harassed by idiots all the time, so I'd rather be a force for common decency and try to let them feel like normal people in public for a little while.

Why does everyone feel sorry for Anthony? At worst he copped extremely mild awkwardness for a moment here and there but otherwise Ed was as respectful as you could expect from any stand up comic. The whole vibe is off with half the room going "aww" or "ooh" at almost every line that's even slightly dark. Like it's overly PC and people think that saying the word "disabled" is a borderline slur Having said that, even with a better and more receptive audience I still don't think I'd have found this set very funny. There's no depth or wit to his humour, it's just extreme sexual visualisations and shallow jocular riffing like teenage boys like to do when they're mucking around trying to make each other laugh. I'd probably get more value out of a spare bread tie than jokes like that. Seems like a decent guy, funny enough guy, I just don't know how much work he puts into his sets but I suspect he could benefit from more.
