Great demo and good to see you guys utilising this for the ever growing modelling market. Could you maybe do a shoot out with 2 identical cabs. One with a "normal" celestion speaker, and one with the x200 with the relevant celestion IR? Think that'd be really interesting as I'm on the fence to whether the x200 sounds natural enough in person, or whether to just get a normal speaker in a cab with a power amp. Cheers.

Thanks Ollie, I think that would be a really interesting video. We initially wanted to do a few videos around the X200 but just never got round to it. I think that is a great suggestion though, stay tuned ;)

I’ve me a 212 of the FM-12s which sound good thru my ported Randall cabinet but unfortunately I run a Boss GX-100 thru a SD Power Stage 200 and the SD PS always clips when I crank it, so it’s only good for home practice. Meanwhile I run the pedal board with a Rocktron power amp that sounds meaner live.

This cab looks to be ported. Celestion on their cab designed for these recommends porting. Think its required?
@ZillaCabs3 жыл бұрын
Their design is ported, we have a ported design too, although the speaker doesn't necessarily need to go in a ported cab, most people actually put it as a direct replacement in a more traditional guitar cab.
@timeiseverything43 жыл бұрын
@@ZillaCabs Thats what I just did as i had t-75's in my cab and sounded muddy when using IR. Was debating on porting the cab but lots of math and science behind it and if I et it wrong it will be all messed up. Sounds good as is so I think I will leave it.

Anyone think the Celestion F12-x200 would work good as speaker replacement in Fender Mustang GTX100 ?
@monkeyplusplus5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your video! You mentioned that you built the cabinet design that Celestion published for the F12-X200 - how'd that one sound in comparison?
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
It is my pleasure. To be honest I find it a bit bass heavy. When we started designing cabs for the X200 we kept thinning woods down to make sure the low end wasn't pronounced too much.... that's not a bad place to be in with 1x12s as usually you are trying to make the most of it. It means the cab can be lighter than normal. We are making a video comparing a few designs, it should be out in a few weeks all being well.

Great video! The bottom end could be tamed using a low pass filter? Have you tried it in 2x12 format? Cheers
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
That is right for sure. This was actually a modified version of a cab we already make, we designed a few cabs specifically around the X200 to tame the lows a little, one positive outcome of that is they are actually a bit smaller and lighter... effective tuning the cab itself using dimensions and materials rather than adding a filter. Great comment though.

@@ZillaCabsGreat! Have you tried an open back design? Your cabs are close back/open back reversible? Cheers
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
@@andrekovacs7954 Although I tend to prefer closed back cabs as they give a bit more control, these speakers do work well in open back cabs. The speaker actually does benefit from certain aspects of open back.... we get this through porting on the baffle, which tunes the cab but as a result adds a nice open-ness to the sound

Can you tell what size ports these use for a 2x12 cab

It would totally depend on the size, shape and layout of 2x12 that you are making.

I bought two of those and modified two Zilla cabs with ports and all and hooked them up to my Helix thorugh a Hotone power amp. It sounded TERRIBLE, harsh and buzzy/fizzy using the same great Helix sounds that I used with awesome sound on my Yamaha DXR10 mkII speakers. They went back right away really fast, thank god for Thomanns 30 day return service!!

honestly how well it replicates guitar speakers is unimportant for modeling. in a live scenario amp modelers run direct to front of house. whats important is does the tone coming out of the venues PA sound exactly like the tone you dialed in with the x200 at home? is the x200 a paralell to a 3way PA speaker system at transferring the same tones? if the x200 cant replicate the tone coming out the venues PA then theres no point using it with modelers vs a traditional PA speaker at home or in practice.
@ZillaCabs4 жыл бұрын
It depends which way you look at things. Not everyone (actually most of the people coming to us for this speaker) don't go to front of house. A lot of people like something that when going to front of house can just move some air on stage and sound cool and some people like to just go to front of house. The sound coming out of studio monitors is going to sound different to the front of house any way so there is always a compromise. I don't believe there are any fixed rules when playing gear, it is about finding what works for you. I think the X200 definitely has its place.
@teamskdm14 жыл бұрын
@@ZillaCabs agreed everything has its place as the x200 would be for those who do want that feel but if not direct would one mic up the x200? I think a good portion of amp modeler users do run to front of house but you will be sourly dissapointed if the tone you dialed into your "FRFR" cab or speaker at home or practice doesnt translate to the PA which will be the tone the audience hears despite having the frfr cab for stage volume. if that be the case than someone running direct would find better use dialing in their tones with another PA loudspeaker at home for accuracy in translation to a venue. however the x200 could do a perfect job translating to your venues PA i havent owned them. would like to see a comparison

So this is a speaker cabinet designed with speakers that replicate a modeled version of the amp/cab combo someone copied so they can recreate the sound of an amp and cab they don't own without colour from the amp or cab they are using................... Why not just get the amp and cab you like? ;D

Stop being awkward Pete! You have missed the point, the question should be "why not just get both"?
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
In all seriousness, the Kempers are really useful bits of kit and if you can get the whole setup right you can go from vintage Marshall combo to full Mesa stack with the flick of a switch... and as long as you get everything right (we are starting to find the power amp is a big part in this) you can get them sounding really convincing.

Use it with a valve power amp... compromise :) ..... actually you wait for the abuse to come in when people hear I have been using a Kemper with a Marshall power amp. It actually sounds a lot more life like than the power amp on the Kemper.
