I had to laugh. "Was it because of the U'ey?" It's probably not a good idea to mention something the cops may not have even seen before they tell you what they stopped you for. It tends to betray a guilty conscience. ;o) I was a Courier for a city firm based in Old Street for a number of years and the West End and central London were my daily Haunts. I remember well the terror I felt on my first day in that job. Apart from the fears of getting lost, losing a package and getting killed, there was the underlying anxiety of trying to stay out of the hands of the police as I negotiated roads I did not know, in one of the most congested cities in Europe. It still amazes me how pressure causes us to learn very quickly and by the end of the first week in that job, the only tangible fear that remained was trying not to get killed. Like you, I found the cops to be entirely reasonable and I never got a single ticket in six years. A few warnings now and then, but overall they were great and left us alone. They understood we had a job to do that was vital for Britain's trade and the nature of it meant were were forced to do stuff other road users did not have to do and would be stamped on if they did. Though it would be a bad idea to take that for granted, it did give us some leeway. For anyone reading this and planning their first trip into central London by bike or car, especially from abroad, a good tip is to check on a map -- not a GPS -- where you are headed and visualise it in terms of the compass. Are you headed generally North, South, East or West? Once you have that down, work out where you will be travelling in relation to the Thames. If the river is directly behind you, you will be heading North. If to your left, you are heading West and if to your right, you are going East on the North side of the river. Cross the river and keep it behind you and you are going South. Once you have that figured out, you just need to pick out some prominent landmarks along your route and look out for them. One thing we are pretty good at in this country is sign posting stuff. So you should not have too many problems. You will be amazed how fast you will learn what looks impossible to learn if you use this system. Enjoyed the video Bro. Thank you. [Quick edit] Just as an aside and a bit of trivia, do you know the Big Ben prayer? I think it is on a plaque inside the bell tower somewhere. Anyway, it goes like this and in time with the chimes: "All through this hour/ Lord, be my guide/ And by Thy power /No foot shall slide" Clearly a prayer the inhabitants of the Houses of Commons and Lords need to recite more often! Happy Christmas everyone and here's wishing you all a wonderful New Year. Toodles.

TheMissendenFlyer Cheers, The police get a lot of shit these days, but people forget that the police have to deal with some real fuckheads every day. I'd say 80% of cops are fair and decent people. People post vids where the police are shown to be ignorant of a law or something, but a policeman is not a judge or a solicitor, they don't know the law backwards, they know the basics and have to apply common sense where they have gaps. That's fair enough in my book.

Yeah I just jumped straight up. Bike was pretty mashed up, it's still being dealt with. She literally just didn't look. This was in Reading by the way, where similar bus lane rules apply.
@jd21929 жыл бұрын
I've avoided them since, but I'm wondering whether it would be feasible to ride down it with full beams or beep if If someone begins to indicate.. you never had any problems along them?
@TheMissendenFlyer9 жыл бұрын
JD21 Luckily I've had no issues but keep a keen look out (+ on the BMW I use my aux driving lights, on the Street Triple full beam and now the CRF is Super LOUD ;0)

I ride in bus lanes all the time, if there ain't taxis, motorbikes or buses in them there's cyclists, bad form on her part not to look properly but then people rarely do that's why I always take it easy in bus lanes

As someone who grew up in london and spent my weekends trying to escape to the countryside on my bike, I find it quite funny that you’d choose to ride in London, but I suppose it is a novelty if you don’t do it every day! Nice to see a video showing the nice side of Police, not what some perceive to be “bad”. Nice vid.

Cheers Nats - and yes that's exactly it - just different from my daily rides (which are on country roads)....and top policing too...thanks for watching - TMF

2:53 He mentions having his headlights on fullbeam. Yes it most certainly annoys me! I am a bike and car rider and I NEVER ride or drive with high beam on because it dazzles and distracts other road users. If I am in the car and an idiot behind me has their high beam on I simply adjust my mirrors so I am not being distracted by the dazzling light. Now I cannot see you!

Hi Andy, Your Go-Pro is that powered/charging whilst riding or do you carry spare battieries. Also what size cards are you using ? thanks Grant
@TheMissendenFlyer4 жыл бұрын
I carry many spare batteries - card sizes vary I don't do huge incase a card corrupts, that way I minimise losses (I've learned the hard way)...

Think yourself lucky that the bizzies were not behind you when you contravened zebra crossing regulations. You must not proceed over a crossing when a pedestrian is on it.

Have to say after your moment of 'Morning Officer....', the roads aren't as laid out as I'm used too (though out the UK)... London is a bit special and has to cater for the mass of pedestrians/tourists (of all countries), but can't say I say I saw a sign (telling you of lanes and directions etc)... but you were very polite and the Offices too... so nice and off you went! Keep it up and I loved you ride down the Mall as I ran the VLM (Virgin London Marathon) in 2016 and it brought back plenty of memories

wow, so cool to see these sites the way you have shown them, just names of places and events i have heard over the years that now have a little meaning to them, and it is all so centralized, had no idea the heart of modern society was to be found in such a close proximity and those buildings are an absolute marvel, thank you, enjoy all your other content to, brilliant.

I see videos on here of people automatically go into defensive, argumentative mode when talking to the police. But this is a great example of how making a genuine mistake and just admitting it can lead to the police giving a reasonable response to the matter. I personally experienced something similar a few months ago. I was driving down an unfamiliar road and overtook a police vehicle on a roundabout which I entered from a dual carriageway without realising that the road ahead was a single lane. I was pulled over for doing so but I just apologised and explained myself and I had a good chat with the officer who was very pleasant and allowed me to carry on. The British trafic cops aren't bad guys as long as you don't try to start an argument with them for just doing their job.
