Central Pennsylvania Moto-Hang: a Gathering of Riders

Some years ago a rider in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania invited a few of his motorcycle and scooter riding friends to a meet up at his barn. A half dozen people at first talking about riding and motorcycles. Organically the gathering grew in number and frequency until it was happening on the first and third Wednesday of each month during the riding season at his barn. Or what became known as the Moto-Shack.
Eventually when 50 or 60 motorcycles and scooters started to arrive it became a lot to expect of one person to manage. So the group decided to have a different location for each Moto-Hang. People would sign up for a date at the beginning of the season and commit themselves to offering drinks and snacks. Since there was no formal structure or membership any costs encumbered by the host would be offset by donations.
It's a great place to see a lot of different motorcycles and talk to people with a wide range of riding expertise and experience.

The Moto-Hang in this video took place at "The Cakeshop by Tati," a bakery in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania. The rider-host is is one of the owners of the bakery.

A "hang" like that is one of the things I miss by not currently owning a Vespa. Perhaps I'll try to "create" a hang later this year out here in the SoCal desert... And I agree with twloughlin below -- the older BMW, the Triumph scrambler (beautiful bike!) or the Kawi W650 (another beautiful bike).

You're closing in... If you have the time and place to invite a few riders you know that will get the ball rolling. And they'll invite their friends, etc. And before you know it you'll have a Desert Moto-Hang!

I bought the 2001 Kawasaki W650. The retro bike that looks like a 60s triumph Bonneville.

So. A W650. I had one. Loved the kickstarter, not fond of the battery location. If I had a battery tender they would have lasted longer. Hook one up to it pronto. Good choice. Even Triumph owners loved the way it looked and sounded.

It's on the Battery Tender. It's been a good choice for the kind of riding I do. I wasn't expecting it. And I was almost certain I would be purchasing a new Royal Enfield Classic 350. But after 20 miles on the W650 I knew I was home and didn't look any further.

I would have guessed it was the BMW boxer firstly but then i seen a jacket like yours on the big triumph but from chatting with you i guess you wouldn't choose such a tall bike . The next guess was the kawasaki, but as its been said already .ile admit my first guess would have been wrong . Enjoy you new bike 🤗...Harry

As much as I like Triumph motorcycles they're all too "peppy" for me now. And the Tiger is just a beast in terms of weight, power, and height. Not for me. And the vintage BMW is just a little too "vintage" for me. What's sitting in my garage now is the 2001 Kawasaki W650. It is perfect for me. I'll be posting (hopefully) a video about it on Monday.

Usually at a “reveal” the gender of the baby you are having or the model of motorcycle you bought is revealed. There’s probably cake and you get gifts. We did have pizza and cake and now the reveal, your new motorcycle is the _______retro. It looks like a vintage Triumph. Our motohang group does have a disproportionate number of Triumphs I noticed. Other than you and me no one at the Moto-Hang was thinking about a reveal. So no cake or gifts! There were a lot of Triumph motorcycles there last night. Usually it's BMW that's the most common but I only remember seeing one vintage Beemer. People were wowed by your new Sportster though.

Ok, which is it ? It's not the sport bikes.. Maybe the rebel 500 ? You spoke about the Bonneville not long ago that you liked the bike and was your long dream but you leaned to not heaving one.. Mystery In the UK, there is similar gatherings and they call them 'bike nights' . I am not there, just fallowing many UK rider's channels that are a bit like yours and even some of them are fallowing you 😅 Coincidence ? Don't believe so 🤔😂
