Okay anarcho socialist here- We aren't anti-law. We're against laws that were specifically made in order to oppress people or if they were made to protect people from getting in trouble for doing something wrong. Unless they're ancap.. in which case yeah. For example: the war on drugs and the laws that came from that. They were made in a way to oppress marginalized communities Another example: murder. It's illegal. Not killing people isn't illegal to oppress people, it's illegal because killing people isn't good. So yeah murder staying illegal is a good thing. Another example: the 2008 supreme court hearing that determined that pigs aren't actually responsible for protecting people after a family was murdered. Those cops got off with a slap on the wrist while people suffered as a result and now no police officer can be held accountable for not doing their job. This is bad, we need this law to be removed.

@Tomings: I am not sure how typical leftist comedy is more modest than what you are criticizing, but if so could you show how? And do you have any suggestions of how he could make his jokes more comedic, other than him simply changing his political views, even though this makes it seem like comedy depends on the viewpoint being expressed, rather than the way in which that viewpoint is expressed. If he used his same level of comedic ability but made conservative positions look bad instead of leftist ones, would it become funny leftist humor or would he still be missing something? If so, how, exactly? I would be curious about your specific description of the comedic elements at play and how they are effective or not effective. But yeah, people need to express viewpoints that the other side considers harmful, because otherwise we just have an echo chamber, and due to that, will never be able to figure out which side truly is harmful and which side just thinks that they are not the harmful one. Or, perhaps, maybe both sides will end up being somewhat harmful and the "correct" solution will be something entirely different from what we were all thinking. Who knows. Or, we can just pretend that we _do_ know, whatever floats your boat I guess; as long as we think we're right we might as well be right, I guess...

Thus, by a continuous shifting of rhetorical focus, the enemies are at the same time too strong and too weak." "In such a perspective everybody is educated to become a hero." -Ur Fascism, Umberto Eco

The way that conservatives treat trans people also differs widely based upon if we’re afab or amab too. I’m a trans guy and i’m treated like a fucking joke. The misgendering I get is belittling and infantilizing. My trans gal friends on the other hand receive a much more violent treatment (just an example of what I’ve experienced- it’s different for everyone) but I really do think that conservatives have a special type of hatred for trans gals, same with drag queens. They see amab people in a really disgusting twisted light, calling them pedophiles and groomers and claiming their gonna attack women in bathrooms. That’s one fucked up side effect of the patriarchy if you ask me
@edwardharshberger1 Жыл бұрын
You should read Whipping Girl by Julia Serano if you're interested in exploring this topic further. She talks about how many in our society have "effemimania," which is basically an obsession with/fear of femininity when it is expressed by amab folks. In her analysis, effemimania stems from misogyny, oppositional sexism, and cissexism. Oppositional sexism comes from the societal belief that maleness/masculinity and femaleness/femininity are mutually exclusive with no overlap. Cissexism comes from the belief that trans identities are inferior versions of their corresponding cis identities. Trans men experience cissexism and oppositional sexism, and potentially misogyny (not to mention infantilization) if the individual continues to gender them as a woman. Only trans women, however, experience oppositional sexism, cissexism, and transmisogyny. They are therefore at the intersection of multiple, powerful forms of hate. Society can imagine why an "inferior" woman would want to be a man, but it cannot imagine why a man would want to be an "inferior" woman. As such, individuals who transgress in this way are marked for discipline and violence.
@quisait5794 Жыл бұрын
@@edwardharshberger1 Realest facts right there, everything has such strong ties to patriarchy that OBVIOUSLY the "lame" women wanna become "cool" men, but since men shouldn’t want anything but being men, there HAD to be ulterior motive to femininity, hence the stereotype of "men in women’s bathroom" or "failed male athletes dominating women’s sports"
@Kira-zm7vy9 ай бұрын
I feel like conservatives hate us so much because they hate themselves for being attracted to some of us. If they say they aren't, they are lying. There are so many incredibly hot trans women (and men😉) out there that they have definitely been attracted to some without even realizing they were trans. That's why they are so obsessed with the bathroom issue and the like. It drives them crazy that some of us pass really well and not knowing if they are getting a little chubby over a trans woman drives them crazy. Its the same reason they hate gays so much. Some genuinely have hatred for them but some are so in the closet and beaten down my internalized homophobia that they lash out.

This is a small gripe in the grand scheme of things, but I think its kinda funny. So during that dumb swimming sketch, JP has a throwaway "joke" about lifting weights, which isn't really what helps swimmers become faster. You need lean muscle to swim because muscle is heavy and can cause you to sink. This is why bodybuilders don't make for fast swimmers. I'm a competitive swimmer and that part just really highlighted to me how little JP cares about swimming as a sport, right along with all the other transphobes.
@TeaSerpent Жыл бұрын
He's basing it on a trump speech. Trump did some strange skit where he pretended to be a weak woman who couldn't lift weights and then pretended to be a trans woman who could lift weights and made the woman who couldn't lift weights lose in a swimming competition which made the weak woman's parents sad. Later in the same speech Trump talked about his plan to permanently end homelessness. Apparently we can just lock all homeless people up in FEMA camps. Because "they'll love it, homeless people love tents." and also because "we'll feed them, not good food but at least we won't let them starve to death". A lot of his "comedy" is just copying Trump's attempts to be funny. After that Trump announced his plan to directly take complete control of the entire us military in order to declare martial law and send them into any state to depose the governor and state legislature "next time they try anything". (Ie next time they refuse to invalidate the results of a free election) It's funny that he copied his whole trans swimming weight lifting champion skit from Trump but mr freedom lover doesn't have anything to say about literally locking all homeless people into camps or Trump taking direct control of the US military and using it to attack anyone who disagrees with him or refuses to commit crimes for him. I also doubt he's going to have anything to say about Trump's latest speech where he says we should destroy the us constitution. Then again according to JP only the 2nd amendment matters anyway.

@SorowFame Жыл бұрын
Also just by looking it up I’m pretty sure the actual number one female swimmer is cisgender.
@garrettauville9371 Жыл бұрын
The story behind the swimmer and why this person in specific is what everyone “jokes” about (i forgot their name) is because when the swimmer was a fully developed male competing in high level of athletic swimming, he was getting like 5th. Then the swimmer got a sex change and was able to compete in woman’s competitions a bit too early. The swimmers body was still biologically running as a male with high testosterone while competing against woman, and was taking 1st place. It did become a big controversy NOT because of undergoing transition, but because of how soon one was able to compete after making the decision. Take away all sexual identity and it was still pretty much a biological male hormones in a biological female hormone division, which does have its advantages. The swimmer was not “untalented” rather actually quite talented just not placing top 3 in the top level of performance. Hope this helps! :)

@Real Ray traditionally, transphobes target black female athletes because they allegedly perform "too well" to really be women. the whole thing is rooted in the idea that women are less than men and that the true guideline for true femininity is white femininity. the gender binary has roots in racist eugenics and the gender binary was used to declare darker races as "beastly" races because they lacked demarcation between men in women in their societies before colonialisation.

To see how they struggled and yet triumphed. To read trans authors like Julia Serano. Find books and media that talk about and uplift queer and trans joy. I dnt mean to discuss or anything like that but I just wanna let you know that not everyone who reads the Bible and beliefs in God is conservative. Maybe in America it is like that amd you have to identify your spiritual beliefs with a political view too and witu certain public characters. But in Europe for example, you can vote for the left amd at the same time be religious. I just say this because it's sad that the Bible and the figure of Jesus become related to things which actually have nothing to do with him 😥
@kiralonely2 жыл бұрын
@@YFL.111 I'm non-relgious, largely, (agnostic apatheist, i.e., I don't think I can know if a higher being/s exist, and even if I could and they did show irrefutable proof, it wouldn't change the way I live my life.) and very much a leftist, but I wanted to agree with you that it's very sad that religion is so weaponized, especially politically in America. I live in the Bible Belt, and it's, it's complicated, relating religion to politics, but I, I guess the most simple way to describe it would be that they, on average, go hand in hand, and people fuel their conservatism with their religion as reason/explanations so often that it's become somewhat associated with it. Sadly, there's almost a guarantee the two go hand in hand, here, but it's, there's a few reasons and it's a little difficult to discuss it all. One of the main factors goes back to preachers taking political stances during a specific political time, when they kinda realized they could manipulate their people, and this led into like Satanic Panic kinda stuff, for example. Since then, politics and religion kinda have gotten, uh, very muddled and swirled together like napolean ice cream, but it's all of the melted ice cream mixed together. Because of the sorta association, sometimes it's hard for people who are religious to find churches that aren't super politically charged, and find people who will not enforce the two into one concept. There are some, for example my pediatrician is religious, I presume Christian, and she and her whole church, pastor too, went and helped protest the anti-trans bills that were being passed in my state. (They were kinda disputed as inhumane by an outside group, thankfully.) She was the first adult to take me saying I was trans and immediately believe me, without question. Still makes me tear up remembering that day, no hyperbole, and I quite literally just started crying after she just immediately went "oh! have you figured out what pronouns you like? Have you figured out what name you'd like, because I can put it into the system for people to call you it. Have you considered what kind of treatment/transition you might want, like hormones?" just because *no one* had just believed me. Everyone was immediately "are you sure" "do you know what that means" "you're too young" etc., despite be having been fighting myself over it for a good year before I came out. To have anyone genuinely trust me not to be rash in that decision and to trust me to figure it out, it just hit me hard. I only cried a little, but it, I can't describe that feeling. It was one of the first times I felt like someone genuinely trusted me to know something without question. Sorry for that ramble. I live in the Bible Belt, like I mentioned, so like, I've had a time of anti-religion where I rebelled against shit becaus while my family wasn't religious, or didn't enforce it to be more accurate, people still treated me weird about it or tried to traumatize me into it so much that I took a stereotypical Satanist stance for a good year or two out of desperate rebellion. I've kinda grown beyond that, but it took a long time to stop associating Christianity itself with that bad thing/issues in general religion caused. I love hearing about non-oppressive people in religion, especially Christianity, with it's negative association regarding LGBTQ+ stuff and the left in general, because I think reminding ourselves they aren't one in the same is a starting path to helping diverge the two once more, maybe.

the Lia Thomas "sketch" is even stupider when you take into account that the fastest swimmer in the world, period, is Katie Ledecky, a cis woman. her 1500m record is 9 seconds faster than Michael Phelps' and she just keeps setting records! so even by the sketch's own stupid transphobic premise, he's wrong.

Also, the fact gun control isn’t banning guns, it's controlling what kinds of nutjobs can have guns. My stand from here on: men who oppose gun control are pussies that can’t use their guns so they’re _scared_ they won’t get a gun permit. The “real men” they claim to be know how to use their guns and have no problem getting a permit. I'm from a country with gun control, and owning guns is still pretty common. Most of the men in my family own guns because they served in the army, hunting is a common hobby, even I've wanted to try out going to a shooting range just for fun, this isn’t like a pacifist utopia. We still barely have school shootings, because we don’t give guns to mentally unstable teenagers, or people who don’t know how to use them and accidentally kill themselves. Our country went nuts after one school shooting, because that doesn’t happen here every year like in the USA. It was a big news story when someone accidentally shot themselves, because that’s very uncommon. Gun control, not banning guns, works.
@callnight1441 Жыл бұрын
It was a classic example of biased research. I can imagine he even googled "totalitarian countries that banned guns"
@DavidStruveDesigns Жыл бұрын
@@JasminMiettunen I don't know what country you are from, as you didn't explicitly say. But if you're not from mine then I'd also like to point out that the UK also _still has guns_ - you can absolutely legally own a gun in this country, contrary to popular belief. And not just pistols either. Shotguns, rifles, pretty much any gun you can think of, provided you can provide a valid and legal reason as to why you want to own the gun, and you've passed all the very stringent requirements in order to get a gun licence. And those even include psych evals, something the US simply doesn't bother to do - for its citizens _or_ its police. Which is honestly frightening. Even the UK government at the time after the school shooting in Scotland knew that an outright total ban on guns simply wouldn't ever work. But controlling the manufacture, import and distribution of guns much closer combined with far more rigourous requirements to gain a licence _could_ actually work. And it totally did. Sure even that isn't 100% foolproof. We still occasionally get criminals gaining access and we have shootings. But we still don't have school massacres and most of the guns the criminals get their hands on are altered display models that more often than not end up jamming. And every shooting still makes _national_ headlines _because_ they're so rare, considered so abhorrent and quite regularly that directly leads to arrests being made and convictions.
