Ok...I'll bite. If you can get that bike through that terrain, I'm confident it can get me down my local gravel road safely. :😜😜 Seriously though, thanks for dropping and I enjoyed your review on your website. (see description) I've been looking for a stable mate for my KTM 990 for a while and this one looks very promising. The 990 has a similar feeling to what you described when I added some proper knobs and took it into the woods and onto some singletrack almost 15 years ago. When it is moving, it just feels smaller and confidence inspiring and that is what the 450 appears to deliver. (loved your get some training/practice comment in the article) Thanks for dropping this vid, you certainly have the skills to back up your written review. Say hello to Rotorua for me. It was our jumping off place for 3 months of back packing, climbing, and rafting through your amazing country many years ago. Cheers from the mountains of Utah in the States.

What do you think of the new Kove 800 with it's similar weight to the MT? Do you think the MT still has its place or the 800 will supersede it?
@chrispnzАй бұрын
Same weight - then that's a tricky choice. More power isn't always better for all riders though. The MT has more than enough power for me, so it would come down to other components and price. If they were equally priced then suspension would be the decider. other than that - what do you like the look of best and do you know a good dealer for after sales service. Id be keen to try out the Kove though!

How do you think the NX500 with knobbier tiers would have help up to this route? I'm really on the fence and I'd want a forever bike, not something I'd ever upgrade etc
@xTheITxАй бұрын
I'm thinking the same thing, honestly as much as I really like the 450MT, leaning towards the NX500 because in practise 90% of my riding will be on road adventuring so reliability/service, and fuel economy are more important factors.
@VeerSpareАй бұрын
@@xTheITx I am on the same boat too, how much different MPG is this compared to the NX? I've looked it up but find varying numbers
@chrispnzАй бұрын
I haven't ridden the NX500, but in all honesty it looks like a road bike that you could do some Gravel roads on. The wheels are not spoked and not ideal for the bumps and hits of dirt tracks. The exhaust also looks a lot more exposed. Having said that - With some decent tires on, I'm sure a decent rider would be able to make the exact same video. If you are doing 90% road, you'd be happy with either bike I reckon. If it was a more 50/50 split then possibly the CFMOTO might be more versatile in the long run. No definitive answer sorry :-)

Great editing and great skills! Since you've run on both, do you think the 450MT would be much worse for a beginner in off-road than a CRF 300?
@jonwoodworkerАй бұрын
The CRF is lighter but more top heavy. The CRF is taller, unless you get the low version. The CRF has garbage for suspension, which makes it a nightmare off road. If you're a strong and in shape person, get the MT/Ibex 450. It's a much better bike and can keep up with traffic on the road. If you're a beginner, any bike is going to be a challenge off road. You might want to get the cheapest (good condition) used bike, no matter the brand and learn to ride. You may find out that you don't like off road.
@chrispnzАй бұрын
Old mate Woodworker isn't wrong. If you want to go actually off-road, then the 450 MT is too heavy for a beginner in my opinion. You would be best to try the CRF 300L over the Rally to start with. Suspension isn't amazing but I would say fine for a beginner. I personally pick the Rally over the 450 MY as it is much lighter and that matters to me when I am doing terrain like this. But if I could have both I for sure would!

@@chrispnz I suppose - but a KTM 450 EXCF weighs in around 108KG - ok so they are very light for Enduro but it can be done, allowing an extra 20KG or even 30KG extra would still keep it sub 140KG and that's a lot of weight to allow for a bit of fairing, a bigger seat unit, exhaust CAT and a few extra electronics, I'd love to see manufacturers try and do it - it's ridiculous having some off road adventure bikes around 240KG !! bike does look good though !
