Hearing that it's only the gem mint 9.5 going to upgrade to 10s absolutely reinforces in my opinion it's about resale and card value. Consumers see a Gem Mint 9.5 for CGC and a PSA 10 and the PSA card has the more value, even though based on criteria and specs they are probably the same condition. CGC is just looking to get more secondary market value for it's high end cards cause people want a 10.

It was a 9.5 Gem Mint. It's important to note that the grading scale hasn't changed, the number has. The grade is still a Gem Mint. They've done away with the Perfect 10 grade. It's a simple restructure and good for the company as they adjust their model to be slightly closer to PSA. This will be a net positive from a brand perspective. In 6 months this will just be normal.

I have over 100 CGC cards that are getting cracked. So glad I picked up these cards in some cases cheaper than raw. I also had a membership and was preparing to grade some of my own cards (CGC should have to refund current members for such a dope move). I was skeptical about sending them my personal cards to begin with but now they've completely lost my business. This is a garbage move by CGC cards and shows nothing but greed and how out of touch they are with actual 'collectors' This change only benefits CGC, people on the know about the 9.5 change 'insiders'. I lost a ton of faith with the shady grading they have been doing to begin with. CGC is just about these guys trying to pad their own wallets but they should honestly burn to the ground for screwing over their remaining loyal customers.

I dont think you do understand that CSG Sport has actually refreshed their label from green to black over a year ago, which was very welcoming by the community. This CGC & CSG merging doesnt impact the sport card collectors. In fact, they made it more attractive by removing the membership fee. I think this CGC/CSG company realized how much customers they can potentially have if they weren't grading cards so hard among their competitors PSA/BGS/SGC. They gotta reshape their grading, which removing 9.5 will help them to issue more 10s without ppl complaining they are now grading as soft as PSA. It will hurt in the short term, but it is a necessary step if they want a step toward PSA. Grading is never a transparent thing among ALL grading companies. You can find many reasons to hate 1 or even all of them as well.

The CSG merger isn't going to influence or affect how the Pokemon side operates, while CGC gets some new infrastructure and staff. This seems so simple. It's a corporation doing corporate things. I'm curious about the P&L of these grading companies. If it costs $20 to grade a card, and the graders get paid $11 (minimum) then each grader has to intake, scan, grade, document, update database, label and encapsulate 2 cards per hour (assuming net negative profit for the company and zero overhead (not the case). I would assume it's more like they need to grade 10 or more cards per hour to break even with overhead, administrative, and materials costs. How could we possibly expect the quality to reflect anything other than a rush job? 🤷🏻‍♂ Idk, I have no other context for this, just thinking out loud. I'd love to see some real numbers.

Rattle, your takes are typically very rational and that's what I love. In this case, the ranting feels a little idealistic. Just comes off a little butthurt. They are a large company making calculated moves to make money. And this will make them money. It will also standardize their process as they grow. They're modelling themselves similarly to PSA, but differently enough to justify their service. The new labels are clean, the grading scale is clearer, and ultimately the market loves more bigger numbers. This will be a big point of growth and nobody is going to care in a few months. Smart business understands that these moves are short-term pain, long-term gain.

CGC's total 10 rate (9.5s included) is around 25%. PSA's is over 40%. You read that right. Of all of the cards PSA has graded, over 40% have been 10s. You can hardly say CGC is just handing them out by comparison.

If you were an early CGC proponent, and you sent cards in to them, you were less likely to receive a 10 versus now. If they wanted to gate keep 10’s, cool. Great, but be consistent. Now they’re making all these changes 🙄 And yes, I know every grading company has consistency issues, but this here is some next level doggie doo doo.

Stopped grading with CGC after the whole metal charizard shenanigans. I will stick to PSA. Not always the most consistent at grading, but at least I know I am getting what I pay for (most of the time), and their customer service is pretty good.

pretty sure this is the 2nd time they changed their grading scale, i thought it changed last year also. either way i'm done with them. i gave them a chance, ii did like them at one point, but now i'm done. BGS & PSA for the majority of cards and Vintage goes to SGC (like real sports vintage, SGC may not be desirable for newer people, but vintage sports people love it)

I do have some issues with the layout of the new label, but I understand why they changed it. Before this, people complained saying: CGC labels look bad and that you should just go with PSA, as you will get a 10 with PSA or a 9.5 with CGC. This change fixes those two problems. On the other hand, many people went with CGC because they were harsher with the grade, which made people appreciate the card value. Granted, we still have Prestine 10 which is a step above PSA 10s. My biggest issue personally, is the removal of subgrades. That alone is making me debate about going with a different company. Im hoping that they make some adjustment based on fan feedback.

Honestly i think the market will adjust and they will either fall out of the card game or they will become BGS 2.0 and grade a few hundred cards a month while maintaing a low overhead because of their well established comic grading business. Here’s what really happened. CGC got used to making money they didn’t deserve during the boom, they are loosing revenue on a significant level compared to last years reports, companies are now looking at ways to generate more income, changing the entire grading structure forces resubmitting while still collecting income from the usual monthly customers. This is not the last stop and as long as they continue to loose profit shares they will continue to make non sense mistakes that truly have nothing to do with the collectors

I'm not a fan of CGC/CSG -- I've cracked every CGC slab I've picked up (except one -- I haven't gotten around to it) as I consider them worthless. But that said, this is fixing a problem -- these groups should have never been separate in the first place (as you mention). So this is overdue, but why anyone would use these guys is beyond me.

Some buddies and I who submit to CGC monthly were in this watching live on IG, and the entirety of live chat was just shitting on all the changes. Everyone was also commenting on how this wasn’t a true live because all the questions were staged for them. They wouldn’t acknowledge that we all hated the decisions and they were going to lose the majority of their customer base. CGC basically wants to hand out 10s like PSA does so that people will grade more with them, when I’m reality people graded with CGC because they were PSA. Idiots
