Well, I must be that Harry Houdini ;-) , because I just changed the headlight of my Toyota Yaris (2009) on the passenger's side without removing all those parts. I looked in the manual to get it out, but honestly, I don't know how I managed that. Took me more than half an hour to get it out. But your video was of great help for putting in the new headlight. In a few minutes, the job was fixed. So thanks a lot, Mark!

Thank you very much for making this. I really appreciate it. In the end I was able to change the headlamp bulb without needing to take off the front grill or the entire headlamp, but only because your video showed where the clips holding the bulb were. It's so good that you guys with the knowledge are happy to share it with the rest of us. Thanks!!!

Mark, Thank you! I just replaced the whole headlight housings on each side with projector beam type and LED. This video is , by far, the easiest, most explanatory one for the Yaris headlight bezels. Thanks again for taking the time to video this and being so clear on everything. It's about a one hour job the first time...after that, easy!

This video is fantastic! I started off reading forums on how to change the bulb, but I had no idea what they were talking about, (now I know they were changing the bulb without removing the headlight). After having done it now, I know there is no possible way I could have changed it without seeing everything. This video could not have made it any easier to do. I finished in under 30 minutes, and now understand a part of my car better. Thank you so much!

This is a great instructional video. And it's from a guy who is from Ontario. This is second time I've used the instructional video. Now, here's a caveat: With respect to the parking light (see 8:16 in the video), you can definitely get at connector and bulb without taking the bumper and headlamp off. You will need to unclip thee "xb connector first" (the orange and brown plastic fitting connector) from the bulb fitting (white connector) by pressing on the connector clip (he shows this in the video). This will give you the clearance you need to turn and pull the white connector out. Once done, replace the bulb and pull the white connector back in. Once it's attached to the headlamp, you can then attach the xb connector back onto the white bulb connector. [NOTE: After replacing the bulb, do not attach the xb connector to the white bulb connector and then try to attach it to headlamp. Attempting to do so, will now give you the clearance you need to put it back into the headlamp and may damage the thin wire that "feeds" power to the xb connector]. Another suggestion is to do this exercise in a bright well lit area. it will make this exercise alot easier. Alsom=, if you are looking for a bulb, one option is the SYLVANIA "168" SilverStar Mini Bulb, 2 Pack" (white or yellow light). If you live in Canada, Canadian Tire stocks the brand/model. Finally, if you are replacing one of these parking lights, I would suggest replacing both at the same time: If one fails, the other one is not far behind and will fail too. I hope viewers find this information useful.

Thank you for the great video! Last night, I noticed both head-lamps were out - I guess I haven't driven at night for a while. We own a 2008 & 2012 Yaris so this is the 3rd time we've used this GREAT video to replace a headlight! It IS possible to do without 'removing' the bumper & headlight assembly [the driver side is MUCH harder to do that way than the passenger side] you just need good eyesight, small hands, AND THIS VIDEO!
@carquestions7 жыл бұрын
Here is the problem - when you take out the headlight assembly you can clearly see how to fit the bulb exactly in place- if you don't put it in exactly correctly because you left the headlight assembly in place and are doing it by "feel" you risk burning the headlight assembly and ruining it - a $400 problem - so my advice is take the whole thing out - sometimes the slowest way is the fastest

Watching your video, I went out and bought another bulb and changed both at the same time, knowing that I had to take off most of the bumper! All tips given were great. In my opinion you don't need to totally remove the assembly, especially if you have a newer model with the wire clipped to it. Just take out the top bulb and work from there. I used shop ties to replace the push fasteners that were destroyed. You can pick up a pack at an auto parts store for like $2.50 and you will be set.

Greetings Mark! Today, I took my phone with your step by step video explaining how I could install new headlight bulbs myself. The express oil guy did a lousy job last month by inserting his big 'ol fat fingers behind the headlight, instead of loosening the bumper as you instructed. I called him on it but he dismissed me stating that he knew what he was doing. The lighting failed, so I purchased new bulbs and prayed that I may be able to accomplish this task. Halleluyah! Mission Accomplished!! Thank you so much for taking the time to put together such a detailed instructional video.

Thank you very much for this video. I preformed this exact "operation" yesterday afternoon to install LED headlights. Virtually all I encountered was as you had shown in the video. The only real snag was around the lowest part of the headlight assembly, once you've taken out the three screws which hold it in place. At least on mine, the lowest screw entered a threaded insert on the assembly, and you had to carefully flex the plastic around the insert until it snapped completely free of the insert (without breaking). Failing this crucial step, you can't slide the headlight assembly forward and out, as you demonstrated, but once it's clear, the entire assembly is freed without difficulty. I hope this tip helps someone. Thanks again.

Great video! It shows exactly how to change the headlight the correct way. Followed the video and changed the bulb in less than ten minutes. I've tried changing without the disassembly of the front bumper and grill before and it took way longer to do and it took the scratches on my knuckles and back of my hands a week to heal! No fuss and no scratches. The only problem I encountered was the push pin on the underside of the left fender seemed to be different from the right side and it would not pop and pry out as easy as the one passenger side. Fortunately I was changing the right side headlight and there was enough flex in the bumper grill cover to access the screw hidden by the cover and to remove the headlight/marker light/turn signal light assembly.

Great detailed video! Followed it exactly as described for the first headlight. For the second, after seeing how the clip mechanism worked, I was able to reach behind the light and replace the headlight without removing it completely. Thank you!

Great close ups and manual info! I got my manual and have not had time to check it but I need to replace one of my housing, I guess previous owner messed lense up! Ty

Your likely right - tried to change the headlight without taking it out and put the bulb in a bit off burning the whole fixture - the bulbs get super hot

Thanks for your video. It helped to see what to expect and successfully change out the headlight on this vehicle.

Thought I'd be smart and replace the headlights without disassembling anything. WRONG! I don't have big hands but that's just too crazy. Followed your directions and it worked like a charm on my 2007. Many thanks for the DIY video.

Anytime - you saved money - if you did it the other way the chance of botching it costing you the whole headlight fixture goes way up

Very well done, and well- portrayed! I needed 45 mins to complete the job, but it was complicated by the pass. side screw. This is the one the bumper must be lowered to see. It was so rusty that instead of the screw coming out it simply snapped off the plastic tab that held the speed-nut that the machine screw fastened into. I simply held the broken tab with a large pliers and removed the screw and replaced the entire housing ($55 rockauto) . The new headlamp unit had a new speednut already attached to the tab. Thanks again! VERY useful!

Thanks, I managed to replace headlamp bulb on the (British) drivers side just by reaching inside and removing the boot and bulb but the (British ) passengers side; there's no room to get a hand in there. Why do modern cars make things so difficult? I'm about to have a go to save myself some money, thanks for the demo and for showing how things don't just always clip off easily. Very detailed thank you.

Sucks. I thought it was like the 2001 Nissan sentra. Just open hood and switch.

Thanks for the excellent thorough video. Just changed the burnt out daytime running light on my Yaris (not entirely smoothly b/c the bolts on the headlights were rusted out and the plastic plugs holding on the bumper had petrified and a couple snapped). This video was so well filmed and organized, made the work so easy to follow.
