Originally, Marge, not Grampa, was supposed to be the one to have the prophecy at church, but the writers admitted they were a little disturbed by the fact the entire family would just ignore when someone as reserved like Marge would completely wig out, so they changed to the character that everyone ignored anyway.

A really touching story line of this movie to me was Bart seeing Ned Flanders as more of a father figure to him than Homer, yet Ned saw how much Homer really cared about Barts feelings towards the end of the movie and helped them reconcile before the bomb exploded. Compared to an episode like 'Home Sweet Homediddly-Dum-Doodily' where he was going to baptise Bart to keep him away from Homer, he really had both Homer and Barts feelings at heart.
@CornishCreamtea07
@CornishCreamtea07 Жыл бұрын
I don't think he was baptising Bart as a means of separating him from Homer, it was just his world view that that was something that should have been done and needed fixing.

@@CornishCreamtea07 I know he was going to baptise the kids because he wanted them to have a 'less hellbound' family. I don't know if that means he was trying to make them his kids, but I feel that he was still trying to keep them seperated from their parents.

*In total, The Simpsons Movie (2007) took nine years to complete.* This is because Fox greenlit the project back in 1997 but in the years up until release, they had to get the voice cast to sign deals, which they didn't do up until 2001. Producing a final script also took several years because almost 160 different versions were written before choosing the final one as plots were continuously being repurposed for the television episodes.

The wedding video uses the song Close to You by The Carpenters. This song was used a few times in the season 2 flashback episode "The Way We Was". Homer in high school dislikes the song on the radio and switches it, but it plays later when Homer sees Marge for the first time, and again when Homer is heartbroken to see Marge dancing at prom with Artie. Other episodes would use it, like when Marge bought a doorbell that loops the beginning of the song, which Lisa is concerned about, but Marge insists that "No one could ever get sick of this song" (before realizing she can't turn it off).

This is not only a good movie, it also feels like the last big Hurrah for The Simpsons in general. I interned on this & it kinda was movie by committee. Lots of people were working on both the show & the film at the same time so there was lots of stress & long nights. As an intern they fed us spaghetti dinner so we wouldn’t go home at the end of the day & when I interviewed for a PA position they asked if I owned a sleeping bag so I could sleep under my desk at night (I ended up accepting a different position at the studio than the film). As the due date approached they hired more & more people & outsourced more to places like rough draft. As a result a lot of the end credits are missing including interns like myself & a background artist who had been with the show since the 2nd episode. If you weren’t part of the last minute crunch there was no guarantee you were in those credits. Also, since they were used to TV schedules vs a film one the jokes weren’t funny to them anymore after years of working in it. So there were a lot of last minute rewrites of the jokes despite many of the crew saying the jokes were fine & still funny. I helped on a sideshow Bob rake shot but it’s never mentioned anywhere. But it was an overall fun experience & I wouldn’t trade my time there for anything!

I really loved this movie when it came out. :) Not every joke lands, of course, but it had some of the visual jokes that had already started to fade from the show by that point. The scene where the church and Moe's tavern trade audiences was one of the best the show has ever done. And Marge's speech on the wedding video was legitimately heartbreaking. Honestly, my biggest disappointment came *after* the movie. The Simpsons Movie could've been a turning point for Homer and Marge, where we could've seen the end of Jerkass Homer and a turn back to the more loveable idiot he was in the earlier seasons. I was really disappointed that Nick Riviera didn't stay dead, that we (almost) never saw Spider Pig/Harry Plopper again, and that Colin was forgotten. It felt like the movie had done some work advancing the character arcs, and it was all thrown away.

just an interesting point: back when the movie came out, there was a contest to see which US town or city called Springfield would host the first showing. Because the Simpsons had been on so long, the contest was won by the one state where the residents had only had cable for a comparatively short time and so the franchise was still relatively fresh there - Springfield, Vermont. Our tiny state was the only place where folks still cared enough about the Simpsons that we beat out all the other states to win the honor (seriously, we're TINY - we still haven't broken the million people mark). At the time, I lived (and still live) near Burlington, VT, but I didn't feel like driving over an hour to go see it. I knew it'd be on HBO in less than six months...

That Marge scene hits a LOT harder when you watch all 17 seasons that led up to the movie right before watching the movie. I wasn’t allowed to watch The Simpsons as a kid, so the movie was actually my first real exposure to it, so I have a bit of a softer spot for it than a lot of Simpsons fans seem to, but I could also appreciate the movie even more after going back and watching all that led up to it as an adult. Every reference, every Easter egg just felt so much more satisfying, and the Marge scene was an extreme emotional gut punch for me when I went back and watched the whole series a few years ago.

@Thomas Reynolds that is such a pretentious take first of all good is purely subjective 2nd it's a horrible take your take would imply that terminator Terminator 2 I Aliens Alien Forest Gump Jurassic Park The entire filmography of Quinton Tarantino Ghost Busters Die Hard and Speed just to name a few are all worse movies than movies that came out in the 70s and that's just not true. Hell you even know your full of shit that's why you have to bull shit claim about Tarantino's final movie which he hasn't announced anything and you don't have the insider track on Hollywood. If your going to try to look smarter than you are than try and not to say something that obviously wrong

I remember watching this in theater, I was already in my 20's but still got so excited about everything. Ralph Wiggum being part of the Universal opening got me in right away. I tought they did it perfectly. It's a movie made by the Simpsons crew about the Simpsons, nothing more, nothing less. Everything in it felt like what you would expect from a Simpsons movie.

I was 7 when this came out, and I and everyone I know loved it/watched it over and over. I think it holds up and has a great pacing/is good for both longtime fans/people who have never seen the show. It has dated a bit, but that also gives it a charm. It is incredibly 2007, and is great to look back on the cultural phenomenon it was when it came out.

I wonder if they were saving it for The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. They might do it while the work on the studio is happening since the movie kind of had the same thing as the Simpsons Movie with the numbers of seasons it took to make the movie and it probably will take at least 40 days or at the most 40 months like they said in the intro for this video

I know the film is PG-13, but it does have some risqué innuendo scenes (the skateboard nudity scene, boob lady, the inbreeding joke the animals looking horrified). Hope those moments went over your head LOL Granted I saw it when it came out when I was 12 so I already pretty much was aware of it all but for younger kids who definitely saw it I hope it flew over their heads

Fun Fact: For the entire month of July 2007, as part of a campaign to hype the July 27th opening of the movie, twelve "7-Eleven" stores all over North America changed their names to Kwik-E-Marts, and begun selling products like Buzz Cola, KrustyO's cereal, Radioactive Man comics, and Squishees, including WooHoo! Blue Vanilla flavor. One store in Burbank, California reported selling over 57,000 sprinkled donuts matching the one featured in the movie poster. Only one of the twelve locations was in Canada, located in Coquitlam, British Columbia (a suburb near Vancouver).

As someone who never grew up with the show (strict parents), this movie was my first real experience with the Simpsons and still the definitive version of them in my mind. So many hilarious jokes that my siblings and I still quote to each other. "I'm the mascot of an evil corporation!" "I was elected to lead, not to read." "This is exactly why we should hate kids!" "There's something strange about that sop sign." "Clap for Alaska!" "Just cause I like seeing you hurt yourself, I'll give you one on the house." "You ever tried going mad without power? It's boring, no one listens to you."

Weirdly enough, this movie was my only real exposure to the Simpsons as a kid. Never really watched the show, but I got this on DVD for christmas and remember watching it quite a bit. Now that I've watched at least a bit of the show, ya know I feel like this movie was a pretty good adaption. It has a lot of that classic charm in there, and for some reason I don't know the whole dome thing stuck with me. If I think of that concept of quarantining a city with a dome, I think of this movie.

The weird thing is that they kept the structure of a standard Simpsons episode despite making it a movie. Like yeah, the first third has very little to do with the rest of the movie. But... A lot of Simpsons episodes are structured like that. Like they have the B-plot first to set up the main plot, rather than both in parallel.

20:10 they should’ve made up a fake trailer with a over exaggerated second part that’s different to the actual ending of the movie then after that they roll a few credits but homer or Bart screws it up breaking the fourth wall so they have do the ending live.

The movie's weakest part was Russ Cargiel. Having more scenes of him expressing his insecurities of the EPA's reputation would have built him up more as an antagonist. It would also justify him going crazy and wanting to blow up the town later in the movie. And his last scene is weird. How he knew where Homer and Bart would land is confusing by itself, but what I really want to know is why his outfit was torn up. Maybe there was a scene where he got attacked by the newly-freed townspeople, but it got cut because there wasn't enough time between the dome shattering and Homer landing for him to get ambushed AND to try to kill Homer. The animators probably didn't have enough time to "fix" his suit.
