Back when they were teens, there's a video showing a collab between Taemin and IU, you might have seen. She has been friends with all of them for years, but as you said, she was close to Jonghyun. SHINee's version of "Dear Name" is different than IU's original version, so if you haven't heard the original version I encourage you to check it out. If you pay attention to the lyrics of the song you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun, SHINee's main vocalist who passed away 4 years ago. So the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends. To help you understand how close IU and Jonghyun were, IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- one of her older songs -- was wrote by Jonghyun. "Goomy Clock" wasn't originally supposed to be her song, but when Jonghyun played it for her, she liked it so much that she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun always said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously wrote the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing. Although SHINee didn't change the lyrics of IU's song at all, by listening to the song with the context of everything Jonghyun meant to all of them, the song takes on a whole new meaning. That is why I think IU was so still and quiet during the performance and why she didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. IU knows how amazing of singers they are, she is a fan of SHINee and she knows them very well. As you may know, IU is a solo Kpop artist who debuted 4 months after SHINee, who is nicknamed "the nation's little sister." She is known for her amazing vocal range and for her cute bubbly personality. As you have seen, she is also one of Korea's top actresses -- she has even acted in a drama with Minho (Red hair). And she has had song collaborations with Key (rapper on the far end) and Taemin (soft voice) when they were younger. As mentioned, in the show IU actually said Onew was one of her favorite male voices and they talked about how they should do a collaboration together -- which I am sure would be heavenly. (Frankly, after 13 years I'm surprised that they haven't collaborated together already.) Onew is known as one of the premier voices in Kpop. He is one of the most coveted male vocalists in the industry that all singers dream of getting the chance to sing with. He can be paired with almost anyone and somehow his voice is able to highlight the other singers' voices, and take the song to a whole new level, no matter their vocal style. He has such impressive vocal talent and understanding of how to use his voice that he has the ability to compliment the vocal timbre and style of anyone he is singing with. All of the SHINee members' voices are very dynamic. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. Once you get to know their voices you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Each of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop". The order you see the members of SHINee sitting in, is the order that they always sit or stand in since debut days. They will always stand with Onew on the left, Taemin next to him, (Jonghyun in the middle,) Minho next and Key on the right. Even their starting positions in their choreography will often have them standing in this order. You almost never see them in interviews or in press photos, not in that order.
