Wow. Amazing reaction. His tattoo says “UNSCARRED” by the way. Great take on him speaking to the crowd. I’ve seen them live more than any other band. Still, to this day. One of my favorite bands, definitely my favorite Texas band. The mosh pits were famously brutal, but fun. There is a sense of camaraderie. Pantera’s lyrics are amazing. They usually inspire a sense of determination, perseverance, drive, the strength to overcome any obstacle. Standing up for yourself, never backing down. …and with that music behind those lyrics. It would make me feel unstoppable as a kid. At the live shows! People would lose their mind. Good stuff. I’d recommend the video “Mouth for War” from this same album by Pantera. Check out the lyrics. Love it. Also, to piggyback off of your hair metal comment, they started out as a hair metal band. Then were like, we are just going to wear converse, and t-shirts and sing about real shit going on. It really made us kids feel like we could (fashionably) be ourselves and be fine. You didn’t have to get dressed up to go out.

Yeah, you spoiled that, now how we'll led her to Mouth for war track? Come on man, just put some brain here somewhere x )) Btw I became a fan after 3-4th time after I watched that song I mentioned, so be careful! (you see, I'm still tryin, come on man, you oh nwrmnd... X )) )

Yes. 1992 or 93.. I can't remember, shocking... St. Louis, MO. American Theatre Fantastic show. Phil was on fire for that show.

Their progression in sound was pretty natural if you ask me, it wasnt some overnight phenomenon like a lot of people think, but when Phil came into the picture that progression was accelerated. And also songs like Over and Out and Deathtrap really showcase how versatile Phil was in the early days.

This is one of those things that you absolutely cannot explain to someone. This is a time when mosh pits were a force of nature. The feeling of these pits is almost pure adrenaline and dopamine. The rush was unreal. These big arena, high intensity performances are gone. I get cold chills thinking about this era of all types of music. The 80’s and 90’s music scene was amazing and im glad i was there for it.

I saw them a few years after this in 97. They were the first band I ever saw where people just completely lost their minds and went apesh*t. I was in awe with how much control they had over the crowd. I haven't been the same since. 😁 Edit: Forgot you had mentioned suggestions and just remembered: The MUST see that everyone will tell you is Pantera - Domination (Official Live Video). It's from a historic show called the Monsters of Rock that was held in Moscow in 1991 shortly after the Soviet Union fell. They played in front of something like half a million people. It was the West being invited for one of the biggest parties ever thrown. Pantera, Metallica and AC/DC were there. Pantera was on first and by the time Metallica arrived it was up to around 1.5 million people gathered. But Pantera being first on proved a language barrier doesn't mean anything when your music connects with a crowd.

It’s a beautiful thing that the youth are getting into Pantera. The Abbott Bros. Worked real hard and were down home good people from Texas who spread great music. Tell all your friends. They also spent a lot of time practicing and took this all real serious. So the lesson to take away is work hard and try to come up with something original.

Just saw Pantera last night in NJ. The algorithm must be aware. Still sounding good after decades of not seeing them since far beyond driven era. Of course the abbott Brothers (guitarist and drummer in this video) rest their souls are not with us but still good live with capable musician friends. It's weird only seeing "half a band" in this sense ... but such is life.

You can do the evolution thing with Pantera alone. Start with their 80s stuff, then 90s and then 00s. Say... "Power Metal" album to "Cowboys from Hell" to "Reinventing the steel". So different, you won't believe it. And you can also go to Phil Anselmo more modern metal projects, like Scour. It's black metal\Death metal thingy. Or you can go to whatever it is, like his gothic americana project "En Minor", it's very good and he sings there, if you are interested in how he sings now, in 2020s
@douglascampbell9809 Жыл бұрын
Bands like Pantera had songs that struck a cord with their audience making things seem like a shared experience. The Bands from the 90's are made up of Gen X kids. As one person I watch put it Gen X grew up feral, from the violence on TV, in movies, actually being outside with no actual supervision. Probably the reason no one talks crap about Gen X, they were/are crazy. Bands from this era always seem to have an edge to them. You can almost feel the hunger they have for fame or money or just being heard by someone.

Back in the late 1980s we would see Pantera in small clubs in Houston, TX. This is before they had records out on a major label. The crowds would be 200-300 and it would be complete insane just like this, but in a place real small. Darrell is a complete guitar legend on the level of Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Chet Atkins, Les Paul.

Phil Anselmo wrote this when Pantera were first getting a lot of attention. He came back from touring and his friends had taken it upon themselves to think that Phil changed as a person into this big rockstar. 'Walk' was me telling them to shove that attitude up their ass."

I was at this show, and it was pretty crazy. They played the song live once or twice, then played the album version a few times, while they mimed along. I thought I would be real clever & wear a bright blue jacket so I could find myself in the video later. Unfortunately, the security guys were wearing the same shade of blue, so I still haven't found myself, and as you noticed, it was insanely hot down by the stage. The jacket was a bad idea, all around! My favorite memory from the show was this shorter blonde girl was trying to mix it up in the pit, but this giant musclehead dude kept blocking people from getting near her. After a few songs of this, and her telling him to stop several times, she finally kicked him downstairs, and he got the message.

I just saw the updated tribute version with Zakk and Charlie. And it was great. But, in their prime, when they were on their game, not too far gone. There was no live band like them. They never came close capturing on a record just what it was a like live. Young metal fans will never experience a show like that. We way too civilized today.
